The developers didn't know how to make "swimming physics"? They made several games years before RDR1 where you could swim, one of them, GTA4, using the same engine as RDR1.

I'm always a lot meaner with John than I am Arthur. Arthur started out horrible but once mortality was on the horizon he tried to be better. John imo is still a really damaged individual by the time RDR1 starts up. He barely escaped the destruction of the gang, saw his friends die and betray each other, and raising a boy he's not 100% is actually his, but trying to make the best of it just to survive. IMO based off the circumstances, John would've held onto more of his outlaw nature than Arthur did towards his end.

Ngl, I kind of see John as the more aggressive one. He always seems to have a short temper and a "no time for bullshit" attitude. He quickly loses his patience when dealing with Irish or Nigel coldly threatening to kill them whenever try to go off topic. It's kind of why I always save the side missions in RDR 1 for Jack (excluding Strange Man) since I highly doubt John would tolerate any of the strangers he meets nor bother helping them since he's focused on getting his family back.

It isnt canon but pretty much hinted in both games the fact John stopped dual guns in rdr1 is one of the main ones at some point his left eye got so bad that it wasnt worth it using two guns
