Thanks for the video Greg. I appreciate your coverage of Atari games because they weren't on my radar as a kid. Take care!

Unsurprisingly I agree with the AI on Pacman and Goldeneye.

You can definitely see how the ghost behave differently.

The 1996 game "Creatures", by the software company Creature Labs, had fairly complex soft state machine for complex behaviors. A good reference is "The AI of Creatures" by Alan Zucconi

I remember that one, never played it though.

Definitely agree with Marathon. I feel like the AI is smarter than what's in Doom.

MK was known to cheat, and it was confirmed some years ago when the source code was released publicly.

Hm... someone should hack it to NOT cheat! But then it might not be as fun...

The issue with snes mario kart was the opponents had infinite weapons/pickups, but they each had a different one. mario and luigi as an example always had star man, peach and toad have a mushroom.. and they can just spam use them, placing items for you to hit seems to be based on the most likley tile any races would try to be on during a race (so just a bunch of tiles which would define the racing line) I prefer the n64 version for these reasons.

They don't have to pick up a block to get them?
@shambleslongplay35662 ай бұрын
@@GregsGameRoom No. they cant pick up a block at all, and they only ever have the one they are asigned with. prety sure they are, starman, a mushrum that makes you small, banana skin, and a green shell.. so they do have a mushroom. but its not a boost mushroom. its one you cannot ever have and is only for the npc's and if you drive over it you will get shrunk (like a lightning bolt)

It's a few years beyond your scope but F.E.A.R. was the first game I played where I was flushed out of cover with grenades and coerced into ambushes. Normally enemies rush you or wait for you but you can hear them coordinate with each other here it's scary. It was the first time i was like, are they adapting to my strategies? 😂

How are you determining to rank them? Technicality? Effectiveness? How are they being ranked on?
@GregsGameRoom2 ай бұрын
Wasn’t any rank, just a general oldest to newest.

marathon is what macintosh owners said when people laughed at them for having no games.
@Dmarcoot2 ай бұрын
only from a small mac only developer at the time no one ever heard of named Bungie.

Oh, that's the one!

@GregsGameRoom All 3 games were offically released a long time ago by Bungie as freeware and are compatible with Windows (and they are working on a reboot of the series since Destiny 2 wasn't going the way they wanted it to). Prior to that, only 2 had an official retail Windows release.

Without Marathon, we wouldn't have Halo. Without Halo, we wouldn't have Destiny, without Destiny, my life would be so much lesser. I appreciate Marathon. P. S. There is new Marathon on the way. I think they said early 2025.

The primitive AI or at least what appeared like it, definitely made some of these games even more immersive. My imagination did the rest. Thanks for the video.

Some additional suggestions (some aren't games - unless you've had fun with them) Alternate Reality: The City (has day/night cycles and weather which alter the list of creatures that attack you. Shop owners that treat you differently based on how you treat them) Eliza - an early text based psychoanalyst. Racter - wrote a book Almost all of Chris Crawford's stuff. Also, look for the online article about the NPC AI for The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (a very funny thing happened during beta testing!)

Age of Empires. There were text files for each civ. You could edit them yourself, but they weren't directions, per se. There were many different factors that had 'weight' and the AI would determine what to do based on certain goals and what the player (and other computer players) were doing all considering the weights.

The 2600 Video Chess, and Backgammon games were both notorious back in the day. For Video Chess, if you set up a situation where it is impossible for the computer to win, it'll attempt to reposition some of your pieces as well as its own. Since the screen blanks out between turns, it's sometimes difficult to notice. For Backgammon, the computer may try to bring the game back in its favor by switching to "rigged" dice. Like blatantly obvious rigged dice. It will roll a double 9, which should be impossible with 6 sided dice.

You know what a.i is good at ? Bullshit! Marbles names doesn't have a.i controlled marbles racing against the player. There used to be kids who would lie like this at school and they would from that day forward be referred to as " Billy Bullshit".
