I randomly thought to search for an interview with Gary kitchen and this came up. Just letting them know at the time of Atari 2600 Activision made games far superior than anything else at the time. Just the use of colors and graphics were a great product back then

How about an Atari 5200 versus Intellivision? Interested in seeing which was actually better. As a computer gamer I loved the keypad for games like Swords and Serpents.

in Europe most people played C64 games on cassette. So they were copied and shared and pretty cheap. Although slow loading.

9:49 Greg that's C64 Sid chip music lol it's warbly naturally. We loved it in Europe. And it influenced a lot of European Dance music. Americans seem to prefer NES style music. The C64 has some great Sid Tunes.

Dragonstomper and Phaser Patrol are my 2 mind blowing games for 2600. Both used a supercharger cassette but can be easily emulated or better yet get a Harmony Cartridge from atari age and use on original 2600 hardware. No lag with harmony cartridge and own every game ever made for free.

This was a little before my time; so honestly not too surprised that I’m not familiar with any of the games. But you hit the nail on the head with the Penguin game, that would’ve been a home run on any system!

Although not a horror game, one game that scared me as a kid was Turok for the N64 for some reason, particularly level 5: catacombs. Oh the mind of a child lol.

Alien (C64) - Funny story: I bought a copy of this and never knew how to play it! It was sold as part of a line of budget games, each packaged in a thin, plastic clamshell package just thick enough to hold the disk. I honestly don't remember what kind of instructions it came with, but I want to say that it was just a printed sheet telling you how to load the game. It certainly didn't explain how to play it. I think I found it hanging on a rotating rack at Stop & Shop. Aliens (C64, Activision) - I had a pirated copy of this, and loved it. In fact, I played it so much that with a little luck, I could complete the game without losing a life. I have a funny story about this one too: My friend brought it over and showed me the first level of the game, which was flying the dropship through rings, but he kept screwing up. I asked what the rest of the game was like and he said he didn't know as he'd never gotten past that level. I took over and passed it on the first try. I'd previously played a lot of Master of the Lamps, and the dropship level was basically the same thing. :)

Bebbe's kids was based on Robin Harris standup and it was also a cartoon, with the tagline we don't die we multiply. Weird I know. It's about as cringy as it sounds. Ah the 90's

Robin Harris was a stand up comedian in the 90's. He was also pops in the very first kid n play movie. And he was in a few others as well before he passed away

I never had a Colecovision myself. It was always a mythical system to me, with arcade perfect graphics. Of course that was when I had the 2600. By the time I actually saw the games in person, I already had a C64, and so I really wasn't all that impressed with them. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the games, like Pepper II, they just weren't as impressive as I originally thought. I found a Colecovision in the trash several years ago, but it didn't work properly. It had the system changer module with it, to let you play Atari 2600 games. That worked, just not the Colecovision in native mode. Gyruss - The home ports are better than the arcade version in one respect: You can hear the music better. I find that in the arcade version, the sound effects drown out the music most of the time. I used to play the C64 version for hours. I could roll the score 2-3 times in a single game. Then my hands would start cramping, I'd get tired, and start making mistakes. Pitfall 2 - I once played through the game on the C64. It took me quite a while because I kept getting hit and being sent back to to the health stations. By the time I was done, I HATED that music. It sounds nice at first, but after listening to it for a couple hours, I wanted to drive ice picks in my ears. Zaxxon - Nice graphics, but the high-pitched whine in the background gets on my nerves. Also, why did they change Zaxxon himself to look like a pair of gas tanks?

I have always rated the Game Gear over the Game Boy, and also the Master System over the NES. I'm from the UK, we didn't have the same craze for Nintendo over Sega which was apparently the case in the US. These side by side comparisons show that the Game Gear was far superior to the Game Boy. However, it also shows how the gaming scene isn't always about a race to the top of the specs. Exactly what Nintendo are repeating right now with the Switch. I have the same theories as everyone else as to why the Game Boy sales were in a different league to Game Gear, but it's also a curiosity in many other ways. Because whilst people are quick to point out the Game Gear's weaknesses, and how these hampered its success, why did the Game Boy's weaknesses not level the playing field? No backlight, monochrome screen, less ergonomic, worse graphics, heavily beaten in overall comparison on games released on both systems. Did better battery life and more must-have exclusives really drive sales so far ahead of Game Gear? Or was there just some kind of brand power with Nintendo by that point which made people by a clearly inferior piece of hardware? It's interesting how the better system lost out so heavily to its inferior rival. I don't hate the Game Boy, I must say.

⭐️⭐️ Hey Greg, I have a question...can the Gamestation Pro display in true 1080i high definition? I am currently using my GSP on an older TV. It does have an HDMI port in on this older tv and I am using & running with the HDMI cable plugged in, however when I hit the "information" remote key for the TV, it says it's currently displaying in 720p So even if I played my GSP on a brand new high definition TV, would it still only display in 720p or would it actually be in 1080i ? I didn't know if the My Arcade Gamestation Pro has the ability to display in 1080i high definition?

It's a shame the 5200 didn't do better than it did. It's arguably more powerful than Colecovision, and its pallet is considerably stronger than the 16 fixed colors Colecovision has. The 5200 also had analog controls built in. Problem was, the 5200 controller didn't self-center, was very fragile and most games of its era were designed for digital, not analog. Still, I like the 5200 more than the Colecovision and am jealous the Colecovision saw 131 releases where the 5200 only cracked 69.

I would say just don't. It's a rabbit hole. IMO there are 2 options: you either hook them up to a CRT, or golden age LCD/Plasma (2009-2010), flat TV's that came with every possible input and were using cutting edge tech like wide gamut Plasma phosphors or wide gamut CCFL backlights. These are like 20-30 bucks nowadays and offer a stellar picture, outperforming any LED TV. A CRT is even more purist, and not too expensive either, you can find a decent stereo set with RGB SCART for like 50 bucks. If you DO need to play retro games on a HDMI-only modern TV, first try to do it with an Android TV app, and if that does not work, get any random 25 bucks computer and install emulation software like Retroarch.

Gateway to Apshai was a spin off of the Dunjonquest series of computer games. People know this one and the "Trilogy" but they came later than Sorceror of Siva, Datestones of Ryn, and other Dunjonquest titles including the titular Temple of Apshai.
