I teased my ex before we had even dated for messing up a grilled cheese. He used that as an excuse to not cook for the 2.5 years of our relationship. Even after I was struggling to cook for him when he turned pescatarian (and I don’t eat nor cook fish). Ex for so many reasons but this song reminds me of so many things he did that solidified him being an ex.

Excellent song! Makes a good pair-up with "Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah" by The Arrogant Worms. Then there's those times when certain men flip-flop from weaponized incompetence to suddenly being subject matter experts, telling you how to load a dishwasher when they've done it maybe once a month and you do it every day, sometimes multiple times a day. In the words of Elvis Costello, "I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused."

Aight, 1) yes, men do this, my dad and step dad both do this But 2) my incompetence is almost entirely because no one taught me how to do the chores, just got mad when i didnt do a good enough job, and now things are getting far stricter and i cant just use my limited common sense and intuition anymore. T^T its part of the dilemma of the younger generation not being taught how to do very important things and just expected to figure it out.

It's totally okay to ask for help and direction! Weaponized Incompetence is when you use your lack of knowledge to get out of doing things. My partner has had to help teach me lots of things because as you said everyone has a specific way they want things done. Thanks to the progress we've made I can do everything on my own now. I totally understand where you're coming from. You're right when you say our generation is kind of set up for failure, but we can learn and grow! It just takes time.
@rockerfaerie23 жыл бұрын
Agreed. My parents rarely let me do any chores or anything. Left at 19 with no clue how to do laundry, cook, sew, car maintenance, etc. They said that it was easier if they did it and I would probably mess it up. It really sucked. Thank goodness for the Internet but I still don’t feel good about a lot of it. I’m female btw.
@suzannebailey92673 жыл бұрын
As someone raised the exact opposite, I totally understand your point. My family was old-school so we kids took on chores as we became physically/mentally able to do them. And it was just me and my sister so we had to do all the "girl's work" and the "boy's work". What was really key though is that our parents made a point to train us HOW to do everything. Best practice for mopping a floor. Best practice for mowing the lawn. Scrubbing bathtubs. Washing cars. Washing dishes. Cleaning gutters. Minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Ironing. Oh god, all the ironing. By the time we were grown and out of the house we knew how to do pretty much EVERYTHING to run a home, inside and out. I was grateful for it then and have continued to be for the 30+ years since. Something I think about often is that many, MANY people don't get the training I received, and they honestly don't know how to do a lot of things. It's a distinct disadvantage that I honestly don't know why people set their kids up for. And yet! In sublime, indescribably irony, my dad was one of those motherfuckers who did things wrong on purpose to get out of doing them permanently. I'll never forget him actually taking me and my sister aside one afternoon to explain to us how that works... "You never see me doing dishes, do you girls? That's because I kept washing them in cold water until your mother gave up. See, if you're smart, you'll figure out ways to get out of doing stuff you don't want to do." In his mind he was imparting wisdom on us, but I thought it was AWFUL, and it diminished my respect for him. He trained us how to do all the stuff HE cared about properly, while purposefully botching anything his wife cared about??? It was disgusting, even to a pre-teen. He was like that about everything in life, his entire life. Always trying to get by with the least effort humanly possible. Think about how that translates into parenting and you'll understand why he died alone and his siblings didn't even give him a funeral. It's sad. Don't be like my dad :(
@DezAmmySel2 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh my godddd. Minus the usage of "babe", this is EXACTLY how my brother got out of everything growing up. Me and my brother both have autism, but (in my mom's words, not mine), his is more "severe". So whenever there were chores needing to be done and he didn't wanna get off the computer, he'd whine and complain and throw a tantrum like a toddler. If that didn't work, he'd "do" the chores. And then my mom would make me fix his shit cleaning job for him. Dude can't even put his peanut butter knife in the damn sink, but go off about how little I do around the house 🙄 Thought it would finally get better when I moved out, but then my exes did the same shit. Uuuuugghhhh
