I personally wouldn't have touched that house with a barge pole. EICR first and the outcome would have been a rewire. If the customer doesn't want a rewire, then walk away. I'd rather sleep well at night knowing i hadn't put my name to that.

From the original board change, how were you able to issue an electrical installation certificate if the property was not safe with non compliant ZE readings and failing insulation resistance readings?
@gregwalker13863 жыл бұрын
I agree. An install cert doesn't have codes attached and to install a new board everything has to be satisfactory it's not an EICR. Once your in it if the customer won't pay it's down to you at least that's what Ray Waterhouse told me on my first assessment in 2006 with the NIC. You touched it last, you are liable. This should have been agreed before or not started. Good luck with the customer signing the danger report if not, it's on you. No one should touch jobs like and leave them unsafe. This is a typical scenario where I would say to the customer you need to do x y & z and another contractor says no we can just do y and they win the job and you look like your ripping them off.

My main concern wouldnt be the vir cable it would be the polystyrene ceiling tiles they are highly inflammable, drip scalding hot and release toxic gas takes on little spark
@jasonhowe16973 жыл бұрын
that is the problem with reno's you basically have to rewire the whole place doing a halve arsed job is still a half arsed job at the end of the day, fixing patch-ins is fine though if you aren't actually fixing the faults properly then it is a bad policy of repair to a point and not fix it...

I took my meter readings today and noticed my meter intermittently speeding up and slowing back down despite knowing there is virtually nothing on in the house. I tried isolating various circuits and found the circuit labelled "Outside Lights" to be causing it despite there being no outside lights on! Any ideas what would cause that?
