re metal box in loft - simple to replace with a CU relocation kit with DIN rail. Often they are put in plastic boxes - so a metal one would be an improvement. Grommets are fine if you can't get a finger in, and through crimps if done properly are perfectly acceptable. If you don't know where to start: switchfuse and sort tails, FCU for tumble dryer, screw kitchen switch board to wall, inspect and test the outdoor kitchen circuit, rewire bell transformer, sort loft and garage jumble of cables. You know you're replacing the DBs.

Would love to see a summary of the full report and the C1 rated items. There was a lot and it was overall messy/confusing but only thing I saw very bad were the long tails without fused protection. Maybe the extension box was missing some grommets and in a plastic box but through crimp weren't awful. This is definitely not the worst EICR we have seen on the channel but it is exacerbated by a big board and number of circuits.

Definately separate the two circuits onto their own breakers. It is one were it is hard to justify any other approach yo be honest. If for any reason they couldn’t be then you should design for the 0.4 disconnection time for both points of utilisation.

@Mark-xr4zt
@Mark-xr4zt 2 жыл бұрын
@@peterc3228 I probably would shy away from that as there were MCBs installed downstream for the outdoor lighting controls in the IP wall-mounted box, so selectivity would be a possible issue. However, from the limited info, we get on KZbin videos either might be a better solution 😀
@peterc3228
@peterc3228 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree separating the two circuits would be the best option. Sorry didn't give any detail where to fit the fused spur. I was thinking to replace the mcbs in the ip box with a fused spur /spurs, and dropped down to a 3amp fuse at that point. Or some manufacturers do a 3amp mcb, if compatible you could swap them out. Even then before touching anything, you would still have the fun job of tracing the whole run of cable back to the board looking for joint boxes where the csa of the cables might change affecting the upstream protection. All the best, Pete 👍 😊

re 20A radial to garage: 1. no need for board in shed - FCU with 5A fuse for lighting, 20A DP switch to isolate sockets. 2. Outdoor lighting FCU 5A in outdoor box (or put in garage when you split the 20A circuit). 3. Split circuit in garage as now with new terminations and either a 2-circuit CU (OTT in my opinion) or just a FCU for outdoor lighting (metalclad would give you a good box to run armoured from).

Hmm ... yeah Thailand was never an U.K. colony, but Hongkong, Australia, Philippines, some small island. But only U.K. mainland have so a high standard where no power accidents happend since power lines are born. The standard in the Kingdom of Thailand isn't high but okay. Most foreigners customers want have standard German wall sockets expect the U.K. customer - only U.K. wall sockets. The standard thai wall socket is designed for max. 10 Ampere only. Same the standard CU. But do you can import European technology without problems - Krung Thep city is an international trade cross. Funny are the build-in sockets and lamps, but they put cable direct on the wall. Outside meter normally but I let build a small higher house for them. Good if have flash flood or monsoon here.

I dont normally do advertising but bizarrely your advert for these stickers was exactly what i have been looking for excellent. I just need to sort out an issue at home now, Heres a question for you, two 30A MCB's (both radial) one is for the cooker & hob, the other is Washing M/C and Dish washer. Both work ok independently, but if I have both on, the RCD trips instantly , any ideas? the RCD doesnt trip if they are on one at a time, when all the other MCB's are off the two being switched on still trip the RCD.

A lot of modern appliances have quite bad earth leakage due to the electronics inside nowadays. That might not be the case but I feel like if it were a nicked cable such as a screw into a line or neutral cables’ insulation, the RCD would be tripping immediately as soon as you turn on that particular circuit. I also wouldn’t expect it to be a borrowed neutral because that is very rare on anything other than a lighting circuit which was wired before RCDs were being used. The best option to rectify would be to replace the MCBs for RCBOs

Genuine question. Apart from the fact that you can't disconnect or isolate the appliance easily, why would the tumble drier need to be fused down if that's all that's on the end of the cable? You've got a fixed load with a cable that's designed to take that amperage. Surely if the PFC is high enough it should be fine?
@david29262
@david29262 2 жыл бұрын

@Gazzerdaman
@Gazzerdaman Жыл бұрын
It's not though, the cable feeding the appliance is rated for 13amp. If you got a dead short or other fault in the tumble dryer the flex could be subjected to much more than it's rated capacity. It would then melt and potentially start a fire. Plug top fuses are designed to protect the appliance flex.

They’re obviously careful in their pricing. Probably went to have a look first and saw that it wasn’t going to be a quick job. With jobs like these you’ve got to think of the eicr as more of a business opportunity rather than just an legality. Clearly going to be a lot of remedials and if you can be seen giving them a detailed (yet comprehensive) report of the remedials required, chances are the customer will go with you to rectify things.

You might typically price per circuit and DB - and there are cr*p-tonne of those here! Also on an initial quote/visual inspection there is plenty to suggest it's going to be a challenge. I imagine also there is some 'content-value' baked in here - it was after all very entertaining! You also can't just 'fail' the installation and say 'job-done'. As a landlord, I've had an EICR where a supposedly reputed electrician wrote me an 'EICR' on the back of an envelope and said 'I don't bother to write out the full report if stuff needs doing, I'll do it once I've fixed it'. Needless to say he didn't get paid for his day's work but NICEIC wasn't interested - said since he hadn't been paid, nothing to take up. Yet wasted my time, I then needed a new electrician to re-do his mess and lost a month's rent as a result. It's people and trade bodies like that that encourage people like me to do a DIY job and do it properly.

I've never understood countries where the house wiring isn't put in pipes. When I was in school I learned that every circuit needs to go into a pvc pipe (I'm from The Netherlands). The only time you'd see a cable is when it's a 4 or a 5 core VMVK (old type of cable nowadays) is going around a corner. And even that would be put in a pipe when going straight. Seeing the absolute mess on the attic just boggles my mind.

Messy wiring does not automatically mean it's going to catch on fire. If everything is sized properly, and crimped properly, it's highly unlikely. At least they didn't have anything piled on top of those wires in the attic. That would have been bad.

Unbelievable mess, how there hasn’t been a fire or electrocution is amazing. Pretty much a case of rip it out and start again 🤯🤬

A mess yes, but tidy up jumbled cables, new CU, switchfuse and rewire tails, FCU for tumble dryer, and relocation kit to replace loft box and it's sorted. Readings were good - not a full rewire.

You keep getting these DIY jobs that then want to get the professionals in. I don't understand, unless it's age, why someone would want to change and apply professionalism to their bird's-nest.
