I agree!!!!! I stumbled upon this channel because I was drawn to Wendy's hair - it's so much like mine. I gasped when I saw her. I had the same dye "journey" - went cold turkey. First five months sucked and I looked pretty ridiculous and had to deal with people mistaking me as my daughter's granny. I had many people doubt my decision and some became angry with me. It was the weirdest thing! And then, right after I finished my journey, silver hair became popular with the younger generation. I actually had several women stop me and ask me where I got my hair dyed. Ha ha! Anyway... It's one of the best decisions I made (I started going gray at 19 years old - dyeing it for that many years, it was getting to the point where I wasn't fooling anyone, y'know?).

I chucked the dye a couple of years ago now. I’ve had my hair all sorts of colours ending with chocolate brown before I stopped dyeing it so my transition was a bit Cruella 😆 but I cracked on with it and I’m now grey and groovy two maybe three years now. Better than the broken hair I had which got much worse during and post menopause. I even shaved it over the first lockdown...💃 🤭

I love your hair. I stopped dying my hair this time last year. And while the line of demarcation is driving me crazy, I’m glad I had the courage to do it. The chemicals in hair dye have been linked to breast cancer, and you’re right, they are horrible for the environment as well. I have been dying my hair for 20 years in order to hide premature gray. I hated having to cover up roots every few weeks. I feel more authentic and free now. Everyone says I am letting myself go but I think the final result will be lovely. Thanks for your videos !

I discovered you during the SW Michigan/USA COVID lockdown. I am SO appreciative of your videos right now. It's a long story but I had to give up my wonderful studio 2 1/2 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with cognitive decline and we had to leave our home and property. I had owned the White Oak Studio & Gallery for 10 years (that I designed and built) (and was part of the Blue Coasts Artists Working Studio Artists for over 10 years. I am a visual artist and former hand paper maker using the plant plants I grew and processed. I have missed my studio terribly When we downsized and moved to a small condo I did keep my journaling supplies and the physical journals themselves. This winter I got them back out and began again. I would like you to discuss different brands of journals and the papers they contain. I have been using my favorite brand that of journal that contain watercolor papers in it. My work is a blend of collage, hand-constructed handmade journals, and a kind of scrapbooking. My journaling is the the one creative thing I can do in my tiny condo on a tiny desk. I'll be watching!

Hello Donna, I too am a Michigander. So sorry for your change in cicumstances. I live in a townhouse and use part of my basement as a studio, but more often I work at drawing, sketching, watercoloring, etc. in my livingroom with my art supplies piled nearby. (Bless my mess.) I hope you get some time outdoors...for yourself, your health & your spirit. One thing I've been doing to stay art-connected during covid is to join live online art workshops. I've found some that are very inexpensive, informative, and I get to live chat with other artists, so it's also fun! Hugs! 🤗 Chris

@@mrstiggywinkle For what it's worth, I just wash mine, use a vinegar rinse (just plain vinegar) and pop it on top of my head in a messy bun, I rarely even brush it, because it stays up better a little tangly. It is long, and gray, and thick, and healthy. I "harvest" it every 18 months or so, and donate the length to charity. This works for me. Good luck!

I agree! It's so inspiring seeing someone age graciously, gorgeously and proudly! I'm from the Czech Republic and there are no good role models whatsoever. As a heritage of our post-revolution 'wild east' era, a woman of a certain age just looses value in the society. Especially when compared with the UK where this still happens, but not to such an extent. It's heartbreaking. Thank you Wendy for putting yourself out there! xx

I'm only just finding my way back to art and art journaling after a few years' break and you inspire me to keep exploring and keep being curious. I would LOVE to hear more about your hair journey -- I'm about 25% grey (according to my hairdresser) and am waffling back and forth on the to-colour-or-not-to-colour idea....not really to cover up the grey, but to express myself with something funky. I think I'm just impatient for it to be more grey lol. Would also love to hear more about van life...about your personal transformation/insights and journey...art, for me, is as much about the exploration as the expression so I'm always curious about the inner world of an artist. Wow! That was really informative and interesting. I loved the "bossy" bit, I think I recognize that in myself! My mom asked me early on, "Who would you like to be?" And my answer was "me!" with no hesitation. I was a well loved child❣ I was taught in sewing and needle arts by my mum so she was very encouraging! Your work reminds me of Susan Seddon Boulet. I also think you'd enjoy Daniel Merriam and David Delamare and Nick Bantok. Erte and art nouveau are favorites. I've collected David Delamare as his prints are very reasonable and he does lots of mermaids (which my art space is decorated in.) Love your art as well as you have so many layers💕 I'm not a painter but so appreciate that you do! I did use to stencil and wore dungarees all the time. Loved all the pockets, my sweet hubby did not like them ; ) I also have gone grey and have really long hair. I did cut 12" off one year. You are really lovely❣ Thank you for all your time and attention to the little details! If your videos were 4 hours long, I would still watch (just maybe in segments.) I am really enjoying getting to know you. We all have so much more in common than differences. And the differences are what make it all interesting! So please, keep sharing!! I feel that you have improved my life so joyfully, and I am mostly a happy person. But these times have certainly been challenging. Sorry I rambled on so! Looking forward to the next video!

As a woman who was once a redhead...a nice shade of Titian...i am dismayed that my hair is now perceived as blonde by many people. Its actually white mixed with red and a darker auburn and straighter than it once was. Funny how we need to adjust our identity at times. Like art. I had dark hair, colored it for a number of years, but wanted to stop for all the reasons you mentioned. The other difficult aspect for me was friends and even strangers saying I should keep coloring because I would look too old. I was upset with myself for letting that influence me but in all honesty it did. Once I made the decision not to continue with the color I was happier. Greetings from North Western Canada! Love your work! I'm thrilled that your video popped up on my suggestion list... you're inspiring me to dig out my art supplies that I've been saving for who knows what! I have a question please; with your mermaid at 21 minutes what kind of paper are you using? Is that a heavy watercolor or is that cardboard? I ask because of the sound of it... I took an art class once where we did a picture on cardboard and it has really held up well, but I've never tried it since. I don't remember if we treated it first... I know that we just glued on a piece of paper from the photocopy machine with an image and painted over it. Do you know about this? Your mermaid seems so sturdy so I'm wondering what you used. Thank you... New subscriber! 💕

I have been binge watching your videos all morning...I think the reason your channel is blowing up us because you are just so lovely. It’s the KZbin equivalent of cozy socks, a good book, and a hot beverage, which is actually more rare than you’d think. Your hair is GORGEOUS; I have been using the pandemic as a chance to grow mine out without a zillion people commenting on it or watching the growing process so I really appreciated your response. I’d love to hear more about whether you do anything to keep the white/gray brighter (like a purple shampoo or toner??), and if you style it at all or is that just your natural wave/texture. I think our hair might be quite similar (mine is also dark brown / almost black, and also part of my identity) so I’m interested in anything you have to say about it!

I love this. I've recently found your channel and it's like hanging out with the big sister I never had (being the eldest!) because there are so many little snippets of advice in there, and your manner is so natural and conversational. I was made jobless by covid this Christmas, so I've just started painting again after a long break, with a view to sell, and my confidence has been the biggest challenge. It was interesting how you spoke about finishing a painting being the hardest part for you. For me, it's about halfway through. I get to a point where I start over thinking it, and only learnt yesterday to STEP AWAY! I walked away from my painting yesterday halfway through with a plan to finish it today, and it felt so unnatural then, but looking at it this morning fresh, I'm pleased I did. I can see what I need to do much more clearly. I'm also still in work mode. After years in education, mostly as a primary teacher, I still seem to have the mentality that if I'm not on my knees with stress, I'm not working hard enough. You talking about a process really helps that. Thank you for all your content. I'm enjoying working my way through it.

I recently found you and I'm so glad I did. You're such a sweetheart. I'm 63 and my natural color is dark brown with auburn highlights. I've only dyed it twice in my life., many years ago. I'm still in the process of 'going grey'. I just call it my blonde highlights showing through. lol I truly love your art and your inspiration. Thank you!

I’ve begun my “transformation” of going natural during lockdown. I’m not sure of algorithms either, or how I found your channel, but I’m sure happy that I did! I’ve dabbled in Mixed Media since 2017, mostly during the wintertime when we are in Florida for several months. And I give myself permission to play. You are so right about Art Therapy! It’s good for my soul, and working on Journaling is really helping my Generalized Anxiety. I love the music you play too. I know that one is your son-in-law. I didn’t catch his name. Does he have any songs that can be downloaded? I enjoy The one about the coffee shop & the Art Museum too. I thought I saw that it was Kina Grannis...but, I can’t find it. I LoVE your Art, your channel & YoU! You are simply adorable and authentic! Thank you for giving KZbin another shot! Blessings!

I really appreciate finding your podcast and what you are saying about being an artist. The idea of deciding whether or not we are artists is something I've struggled with. I think that mindset is coming from the outside. I think, as you say, looking at it from the point of view of being yourself, or becoming yourself, it's up to us whether or not we are artists (separated from the idea of how good/bad our results are). These are discussions I'm so interested in! I am an artist, but have no real training or a community. Seeing your process and life is so calming and helpful. Thank you! @friendoblu

I remember when you began growing your hair out and what a big process it was for you. It amazed me that it was four years ago. I had only just begun to art journal seriously and you were so encouraging of me. I had the same experience as a classroom teacher Wendy. It literally nearly killed me and I am sure was the reason I got fibromyalgia and other autoimmune co-morbidities. Fortunately I was near to retirement and was able to manage my health better and to really get into my art. I so admire you and James for selling up and running away in your van. I really wanted to run away too and I did so by actually designing and having my home built. It was, and still is, my hideaway haven. I did have a 4 week runaway adventure in Cyprus before I retired though. That was an amazing Shirley Valentine experience! I am so happy you are so successful my dear friend and love your videos.xxx

I had to look up imposter syndrome, too. Seems like a somewhat extreme form of self-doubt. I’m primarily a writer, a writer who also makes prints and collages, and lately I’ve had the opposite experience. That is, when I read a story I wrote 20 years ago, I’m always pleasantly surprised that it’s as good as it is and still seems like, as I like to say, “something I would like to read.” To feel comfortable talking about my other work, I tell people that I’m “artish” when they see a collage and say, “Oh, you’re an artist!”

I really hope you never stop uploading. You inspire me. Art is huge for me. I am an INFJ and creativity runs in my veins. However I am a perfectionist by nature and art allows me to be messy and make mistakes.. and to learn that IT'S OK. Ypur art is truly free and I absolutely enjoy your art and all your videos. Thank you for all that you show us. Art is and can be such a private process and showing it is such a vulnerable thing because you're opening yourself up to others not understanding it or liking it. But that's not the point. Anyway, I've rambled on and I hope one day I can feel as comfortable in my skin as you are to be my own self. ❤️

When I turned 50, I stopped coloring my hair because it was costing me too much time and money to have it colored every few weeks. I got a lot of criticism from other women whom, I assume, felt intimidated by my embrace of my “inner crone”. Now I get a lot of compliments because it is silver in all the right places.

Waves hello from a Hypermoblie zebra 🦓another way to warm up without electricity, you know those cusions filled with the beans like you get on bean bags, they are good too. Or if u have a microwave, half fill a sock with rice or lentils, tie the end closed and then heat in a microwave for hand warmer without water.

I think there was a suggestion based on some kind of algorithm snooping of my photos, my room, my vocation, my hair... all analyzed to find my double. But I speak Ameriglish. That's the difference.
