The largest exhibition ever of works by Ed Ruscha, one of the most celebrated American artists of the postwar era, is now on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Ruscha, now 85, talks with correspondent David Pogue about collecting much of his life's work into one retrospective; the cryptic nature of many of his paintings; and his use of unusual materials (like chocolate and axle grease).

“To stand back and explain it would be a bit like searching for bones in ice cream… it’s not gonna happen.” This is one of the best quotes ever.

I saw the exhibit and my favorite work is shown here at 5:48 (4th from last, I think): Trade School. The prison-like portrayal of a place where young men went to learn to fit into the industrial complex is hauntingly appropriate.

Painting with chocolate and blood seems like fun. I admire Ed Ruscha's perspective about art.

Loved the Ed Rushca-painted sun artwork at the end of the video. Nice touch. Although it probably would have been more apt if the artwork was just the word "sun", instead.

CBS > Rusha is not the last great artist of the 20th century. Jasper Johns is still alive. I think you meant to say, one of the last living Pop artists.
