Hi Lesley, so glad to have come across your channel, learning so much already. I just decided I want to be a textile designer and all the terminology is new to me as well. My question is what would be an example of an "In house" job to get. I am not a graphic designer but I do draw and paint. Thanks so much for the tips!

Hey Angelica! Nice to meet you. An in-house job means you're a full-time employee for a company and there are a lot of perks to that. Some examples of in-house textile designers are for apparel and home décor. Some textile designers work for wholesalers that most people have never heard of, while others work for retailers like Target or West Elm or Anthropologie. My in-house jobs have all been with wholesalers and we sell to big retailers. I hope that helps! :)

Every single job I've EVER held needed a Design Degree! Every single one. Where are you out of? Sigh, Affiliate Marketing/KZbin isn't specific to Artists. BuyOuts are very beneficial to COMPANIES, they can use YOUR work forever, making income off that same work FOREVER while you only get paid once,.THEY pay their reoccurring bills, you pay ONE bill. ALWAYS KEEP your copyrights!!

You make a lot of good points and I love your passion for keeping your copyrights. 💗 I personally had a college degree in fine art plus some some graphic design classes, but I was able to land a job in Textile Design bc I made a portfolio for the job I wanted. I’m not saying “don’t go to college at all,” but in my experience there is definitely some flexibility between design fields. You don’t need to get *another 4 yr degree to switch from graphic design to textile design, for example. You DO need to update your portfolio. ;)
