My kind of video. What a legend he is. Spent a many a night as a kid leaving these games on just to listen to his music.

There are some solid tracks in there. "North Beach Night Life" and "Scenic Drive" are my faves. I actually listened to his tracks when I was visiting San Francisco! I just had to listen to "Lombard Street" on the actual Lombard Street.

Thanks for the in-depth research. It's cool to see how involved he was with the software side of things, like the tracker software. Also, impressive that Bad Cat was one of his first commercial titles--that main theme is badass.

That first track Planet of War is so good that it sent me down a rabbit hole of trying to see where I could get hold of it, only to discover that it is on Chris's bandcamp in one of the SID anthologies. It's tracks like that which really bring it home to me how there are some incredible pieces tucked away in soundtracks to not wholly well known games. Once again another incredible Artist feature I look forward to these every time as I learn so much from them and come across great music

This was a good video. I love the music for Jim Power on SNES. I hope you can do Artist Features on Jason Page, Paul Gladbois, Keith Tinman, Steve Collett, Andy Brock, Tommy Tallarico.
@D3strucor5 ай бұрын
Tommy Tallarico does not deserve it,more than half of his works do not belong to him and he only self-credited. An Artist Feature of Joey Kuras would be better.

tommy tallarico shouldn't have a mix because all he does is credit and claim shit to himself; he just says he made some music or game when it doesn't belong to him

This is such an amazing compilation of Chris Hülsbecks work! Of course you could have named even more legendary soundtracks, like To be on Top, Rock'n'Roll or Tunnel B1. But I understand, that this would have been too much for one mix. So, I have only one complain: You should have ended the video with Interstellar Sentinel. This amazing soundtrack is clearly one of his best works ever and proves, that he still has this magic within him, which made him famous in den 1980s and the 1990s. And his contribution for Tiny Thor was also really good, even in this case he was outshined by his friend and collaborator Fabian Del Priore. ^^

Thanks for posting. I'm a big fan of Chris Hüelsbeck and this mix was worth the wait given one time you stated a lot of his composition history is varied.

I originally discovered Chris Hülsbeck's name with a particularly amazing track I found somewhere on the Internet some 15 to 20 years ago. Unfortunately I lost the track on some old computer, and I don't remember its name or where it's from. :(

maybe a random request, not really artist feature or genre, but I'd be curious if you could put together a video on 1-bit beeper music. I am pretty fascinated by it but it's hard for me to find that kind of music.

"if there's one C64 game that Chris is most well known for, it's this one." Then proceeds to play the bland title track instead of the in-game tune that he is actually most well known for. WTF? Have you ever even played Great Giana Sisters? This would explain why you were confused about Chris telling you it was inspired by a Madonna song I guess. Listen to the iconic in-game music and you might understand. The title tune is decent, if a bit repetitive and dull. But you need to understand for anyone playing the game back then it was the in game tune that actually helped make Chris' reputation.

Not a fan. But the Mega Drive Universal Soldier (Turrican 2 reskin) game has some really great moments. Otherwise a hard pass on very cheesy and clunky compositions.
@lasse97064 ай бұрын
I honestly have no idea why you would write that. The Turrican II tunes are absolutely amazing, try checking out the original Amiga compositions and not the ones on display here.
@iwanttocomplain4 ай бұрын
@@lasse9706 What I meant was that I thought Turrican 2 (Genesis version by Code Monkeys specifically) I found pretty darn good in moments. The rest of his work I think is pretty stinky.

Comes down to personal preferences then. That’s the thing about music of course, never expect everyone to like your tunes. But it does mean music taste is diverse, which is cool.
