Born in the year of the Dragon, Gloria was lured towards art from an early age. Her late father, Martin Fu, was an oil painter, and though he never achieved fame and died poor, he enjoyed many rich experiences from his paintings. In 1996, Gloria began serious study of mandala art and symbolism, in Melbourne, Australia. After 10 years of study, she began to facilitate mandala workshops both in Melbourne and Singapore, with the blessings of her mandala teacher. Then after, she undertook a short study course in art therapy, and in 2008, started an art-based charity project, Circles of Love, using art to raise funds for charities. This led to the creation of 1000 SMILES -- Art in the Service to Humanity, in 2012.
Again, using art, the project aims at annually reaching out to at least 1000 children living in villages, slums and refugee camps around the region. Gloria's colouring/activity books, as well as her stationery, have reached children in Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and India. Her paintings have been sold in Bali and Australia. She enjoys painting contemporary nudes, monks, mountains, and lotuses; and believes art to be a form of meditation as well as healing.
