I DO draw different ears! Ear shapes can be surprisingly important in character design when your work is super stylized, BUT... you're right. There's always some consistency to it, like filling in where the darkest spots are or the right-side-up Y inside it and, generally, a little blush. There's always consistency. Idk why tracers do such a bad job pretending when 90% of the work was already done for them.
@friendlyneighborhoodartistАй бұрын
I think it's because they haven't learned enough about their own self, their own style to hide AI issues. Even if you do like 3-4 different styles, you have something that belongs to all of them. Tracers man, lol.
@Alice00001Ай бұрын
I was about to write the same thing. I also draw ears different. I was drawing them the same way for a while but recently I started to draw them differently, same for muscles, since my understanding of abs is still a bit on the weaker side I end up drawing them differently each time, sometimes more square-ish sometimes they are wider sometimes more squeezed in the center. Even shading and rendering is very inconsistent. I guess the only relatively consistent thing for me might be hands? And eyes but that is a hard maybe. Though there are probably some things I don't notice myself that might be similar across all drawings. 🤔 Of course I'm not saying this to defend the artist from the video the use of AI and tracing is very obvious. I don't really understand what kind of enjoyment those people get from just sitting and going over the lines....
@fruityfroot4413Ай бұрын
There's drawing different ear shapes and then there's completely changing how the ear is fundamentally drawn ... yknow? if that makes sense XD I also change up the shapes to distinguish my characteres, but every ear of one specific OC will always be the same.
@Alice00001Ай бұрын
@@fruityfroot4413 That's nice attention to detail. I just draw it differenty bc I can't decide which one I like best. It's like that with every body part. That's why I don't really have a style since I go for something different all the time. (´▽`;)ゞ
@IcyPastelАй бұрын
What eludes me is, why do all tracers do such a piss poor job? Not to excuse tracing ofc. I just find it very weird and kinda funny? There's so many that clearly know how to draw but take all these very weird, non-logical, shortcuts as if nobody is gonna notice that stuff is off??? This is next level self-hate in my own, personal, opinion. Imagine, instead of doing this, just being proud of your own and unique artstyle? I recently realized I wasn't having fun because I just hate doing lineart. So, I stopped doing lineart for the past 2 weeks and I'm doing lineless art now. Suddenly my artblock I've been dealing with for literal years is gone and I'm having fun again! Like I can't say what anyone is dealing with, but I hope people like this will eventually grow out of this stuff and learn to love their own art and style. You don't gotta do what's popular, you gotta do what you love and what's fun.

People just fear/hate AI too much. If they would just simply say on their arts smth like "I generated this with AI and then I manually modified it" or "I generated with Ai and replicated in my style" they wouldn't get in this trouble. It is like a snowball where more artist will attempt to lie like this and get better at hiding it, and people will progressively hate it more and have worse reaction. All solved if they would just be honest, which yes, some people will hate, but you'd be out of drama. Another option: If they want to pretend they're good at this so badly... how about actually getting good at it? 🤣 I swear nobody would make any drama if you specify you like to generate images with AI and do something on top of that from time to time. Most people will not be doubting when you actually make art by hand since they'd know you are honest about it. Or you have the third options: Fckin' do a better work at faking it xDD, couldn't be so hard lol But that's my opinion, someone who draws from time to time and generate some fancy stuff with AI from time to time. So I don't satanize the tool, but the one who uses it.
@friendlyneighborhoodartistАй бұрын
While I don't agree with the use of AI, I'm not going to be crappy to someone who uses AI knowing: What it does, how it works, doesn't use it for the end process but a portion(like a photobash) or ideas. I know some people generate for a lot of reasons but being honest about it and understanding the harm it does and taking that into consideration shows you might not care about the situation as a whole...but at least you are being open about it.
@IsellirusАй бұрын
@@friendlyneighborhoodartist Is not I'm not caring about it. It is simply that you and I, none of us can stop it, nor should; such technology could bring a brilliant future (and not talking about art in any way with this, obviously), unless you see it with pesimism, which I won't recommend doing. What we can actually do, is to point at those who uses what the technology is barely capable of offering today for bad purposes. Such as this individual, or the one you exposed in the video who brought me to you. This technology is as wrong or as positive as you want it to be. If you see it with optimisim as I do, you might notice the potential it has, and for the time being where it does funny stuff like images, videos and music, low quality? yes, but it can be lots of fun if you dare to check at it. But here's my point: Being positive about AI does not mean you will ignore that it is used for wrongdoing, you don't need to support scammers to earn a place on feeling curious about it. After all, I can tell you most scammers (not talking about art again) does their sh*t on messaging apps such as Telegram, WhatsApp or Facebook. That people will always find the way to f*ck it up, and not because of that we should be satanizing whatever they try to exploit, like those messaging apps. What you do is pretty positive, and I love that. You warn people about those scammers and expose their tricks so they won't be tricked on this sh*t in the future. That's why I liked you. But trying to fight the AI as a whole... doesn't make much sense to me. And it isn't that I liked it the first time I saw all of this, I just researched more about it, tried it, and I actually find it was simply not the demon. Do I explain myself?
@herojenniАй бұрын
People definitely care even if you're honest about it, example PetraVoice. Interesting art that she publicly disclosed was ai generated, and it has now been absolutely dumpstered and there are people who have claimed fame by copying the ai art that she generates. Not to defend her or anything because I don't know Petra's motives, but I don't think it makes you a talented or creative artist to get popular from copying ai art either. Any online presence you have will presumably be run to the ground if anyone finds out you use ai, unfortunately.
@friendlyneighborhoodartistАй бұрын
@@Isellirus I'm not fighting AI as a whole but I focus on educating about the situations, updates and the negative parts of AI that I believe artists should know things. I've educated myself and I don't think showing something that is currently a gigantic plagiarizing technology is going to help anyone. It hurts more than it helps in my opinion. I do have some neutral takes for AI, but for the most part, if you are supplementing your process and learning or exchanging your creativity? You've taken the short road. Most people are using it in that way, they use it as an End Product, which it should never be part of. And, if you feel you can be subbed to me because I'm not positive about AI -- knowing what I know about it and having my opinions until there is severe regulations on this tech? That's totally understand, I saw you followed me on IG too, if you wanna continue there we can.
@IsellirusАй бұрын
@@friendlyneighborhoodartist Thing is, when I say that AI can be significantly good for us, I'm not referring to art. Because of course we do not need an AI on something that is so human. Instead, I understand that art is the way in which the whole thing is starting to develop, but it will take time to get to the real important areas where we could benefit from it. Of course AI in art is worth anything but laughs, but as I understand, it was necessary to start somewhere. For me, I personaly do not use AI for inspiration, nor I use any AI on my drawings, I ain't no artist at all, nor have the intention to be illustrator, I just doodle from time to time, but usually to lazy to do something xD. Some days I just feel very creative, but very lazy and I create some stuff with Ai, stuff I later then edit and show to my friends, but I don't have any plans on creating any place to show that off, maybe another time. For me, AI in art is kinda pointless, it just feels like a joke, but I can see the potential for that tool. How to use that tool? IDK, I don't need it, but definitively would not be scaming. For example, If I were to make a project and I'd need to setup some quick conceptual art to show it to artists and illustrate them on my vision of what to do, or how should it look, I would for sure. And about plagiarism... I won't like to extend on this, cuz it's complex. But knowing how the engineering behind it works, it technically is not plagiarism, but replication. Since AI ain't a pixel copy-pasting tool, but something that is capable of creating from zero by using different references. The process is, at the end, the exact same we humans do, thing is there is a millionaire company behind it, but that doesn't make the previous untrue. But there is something that makes art, art: Humans, Ai is good at it, but is limited, and will always be. The only way a robot could be a real artsit would need to have consciousness and feelings, and that's something that's prob not ever going to be created. Yes, it is impressive for people that doesn't have art skills, but AI has NOTHING to do with a real artist. So the artist's preocupations on Ai, to me, are ridiculous; is like they're saying their talent is inferior to an AI, which will never be the case, no matter how good it gets at it. These are my thoughs, I tried to summarize them, but I'm bad at writing shrot text :P. And sure, I don't have any problem talkin' there.

I think some artists misunderstood what everyone meant by "incorporating AI into your workflow". This was meant to be the initial process of replacing stock image research for base reference with 100% control over the composition, not generating an image and partially editing it or regenerating their sketch (lineart-to-image). They see the potential time save by using AI to generate bigger parts of the image or even the entirety, but for a massive cost of lower quality. I don't see any point in tracing a generated image just to eliminate the AI completely from the image, they still have to correct the traced nonsense, so in the end, they don't save that much time. Any use of AI always requires further corrections, whether you like it or not, so the argument of "artists can speed up the painting process with ControlNet" is just bullshit. It's just skill and quality degradation, they don't need AI in the painting process, and to be honest, I'd still prefer paying and waiting *way longer* for an actual high quality, manually drawn art piece with that artist's style, even if I know I'm capable of just doing all this myself with AI in any style, but in commercial products I'd prefer having assets that make actual sense. I'm an AI junkie, so I know what I'm saying 🤓

I'm glad you commented. I've seen only one guy actually do what you are suggesting here. And you are right, having the AI do everything with you with ControlNet is just a cope, trying to force people to do what? Finish Art they wanted to finish on their own? LOL.

Let’s be honest: at least half the artist who post regularly on social media are using AI to some extent. Because before 2023, there were only a handful of artists who paint covers like Alex Ross & J Scott Campbell, render comic pinups like Artgerm or design charming characters like Loish. Now there are thousands of “artists” posting work on that level. I’m not saying that a lot of them aren’t skilled, but they’re also doing paint-overs & speeding up their processes with AI

Another tell is the speed. Even if an artist is painting fulltime for social media, they probably cant finish multiple fully rendered artworks each day. Someone like Noah Bradley who’s painting landscapes is the exception but even he isn’t posting multiple fully completed & polished works per day
