A church with rich military heritage will be donning a new stained glass window which has been hand painted to pay tribute to RAF Scampton. 🎨
The panels contain The Red Arrows, a Lancaster and a Vulcan, as well as the aerial view over RAF Scampton. 🛩️
The Scampton church wanted to find a new way of acknowledging its history with the RAF.
Kirstie Chambers went to the artist’s studio to see the window up close.

Wow, really appreciate the craft she's put into this, what an incredible piece of work. The attention to detail and concern over accuracy is so valuable, she really wants to properly enshrine a physical memory to the place and it's people. First time I've seen something like this here, would quite like to see more of these local efforts to preserve the history and lineage of HMAF!

One of the things that really threw me about this is that they are talking about the "close relationship" between the Church and the base...but then a few moments later she says that "just over 50 miles away is the Scampton Church"...Now, either I am clearly missing something (which is ENTIRELY AND PROBABLY POSSIBLE!!) or I would think that there are plenty of Churches MUCH, MUCH CLOSER than 50 miles away from the base!?!?!? I know that HERE, in the USA, there can be a half-dozen or more Churches/Temples, etc., of practically every major (and, often, even minor) religions, denominations, and even places where Wiccans and others can celebrate/worship (whatever they all do, respectively) directly ON the base(s)...even OFF-BASE you are likely to find at least a dozen or more Churches/Temples/Mosques/etc., within a 5 mile radius of the base. So FIFTY MILES?!?!?!...and considering that to be a "close association"?!?!?! Very interesting!! But, as I mentioned earlier, I have probably missed something and look like a complete moron right about now, LOL! That being said, though, I have to say that the stained glass windows she is creating are just BEAUTIFUL, and the idea of having the planes depicted as being viewed "in flight" from above, over the actual lands they flew over on their thousands and thousands of sorties is a genius idea that really takes the whole project to an entirely new level of amazing. VERY, VERY NICE WORK, and MASSIVE KUDOS for going well beyond your "brief" and adding the surrounding terrain (from actual MAPS, nonetheless!!!) that the aircraft all flew over during their years stationed at that field. Just WOW. YOU, Dear, have a TRUE GIFT and I thank you for sharing it with us and the men/women of Scampton.

Idolatry. The glory of man/the glory of a nation has no place in the church.

Yeah, perhaps in the town hall or somewhere along those lines but it's a bit of an iffy one to be in a Church.

I know what you mean. You seem like the most appropriate thing to have in a church, although with Britain’s long traditional close links culturally and socially with the military, I guess it is inevitable. Especially as we do already have panes in some churches commemorating the fallen from the first and second world Wars.
