As long as they treat em right cause the sellers remorse is a heart breaker finding out they sold it for more lol forget money in away but it's pretty good to basically be able to generate profit doing something u enjoy.)

Great video. My share is that I used to curate a gallery that I did not show my own artwork in. My style is very realistic and the gallery focused on a more exotic style of art. We had found art, abstract, pop art. My style would not have sold to our clientele. So there you go. I curated myself out of consideration lol...

also, make sure your art work matches the style of the gallery. if a gallery is full of palm trees and hula girls don't walk in with graffiti work, and vice versa. this should be obvious but you would be surprised.

There are many known hurdles in businesses and in the arts, and all of them are answerable by only YES.. It counts daily and realized./reconciled as well as accurate.

Thank you Mike, this was extremely helpful. I've been considering approaching a few galleries that I've visited, and have selected one that I really like and think I would fit well into. Before I even considered doing anything, I wanted to do my homework. This helped me to understand what I should do before contacting a gallery. Thank you very much!

I love Jerry's!! I buy almost ALL of my art supplies from them, especially XL canvas (because I don't know how to stretch my own canvas just yet), which spares me the grief of having to take a trip to the store and figure out a way to haul huge canvases home in my tiny car. ...they have everything, their prices are ridiculously good, shipping is quick and my packages always arrive intact. I would be lost without this company. seriously! they are the best!!!

Contact only with collectors directly, but not with gallery. Gallery interest is only artists money. 🤣👍

Excellent presentation 👍👍 thank you for the great insight and tips. I've been on both ends, as a gallery owner and as a working artist. While I respect individuality and uniqueness, at the end of the day does your work have appeal? Is it well executed? Is it so avant garde that it's very specialized, therefore, needs particular avenues of selling, galleries that represent such specific work? Details do matter; I just watched another video where the gentleman noticed typos when a few galleries reached out to him regarding artwork for sale in the five figure range...Sloppy syntax and typos speak volumes. It seems as if the writer/sales associate is too self-involved to bother with the "mundane act of editing prior to sending"...Things like that make a huge difference especially when dealing with higher caliber galleries. I love that you stressed keeping ego out of the equation! That cannot be stressed enough, especially when we're newbies... Glad I found you and thank you again for your great channel and information🖌️

This was helpful, but not for my challenge. I work with acrylic paint and other other acrylic mediums, and layering, with glitter, making a metal flake effect. It video tapes beautifully, but does not photograph as well, the effects don't show. So taking a photo doesn't properly show what the painting looks like. So scanning a submission won't properly represent what I do. However, now I don't want to be rude by just showing up with art. Any one have any advice, I am more confidant about my art than I am with approaching the galleries. Much thanks for any insight!

It is hard to make a good "readable" story about yourself as an artist, I wonder if somebody can help with this ..? Also, I would like to have a professional critique of my art, where are there such services? Thanks for your advice and discussion in this video!

What does a gallery look at when they do their research on me as an artist, what should I have in place in order for them to be able to follow me?
@MikeNotJerry
@MikeNotJerry 5 жыл бұрын
They are most likely interested in seeing your web and social media presence. They might want to see what you've posted, how much you've posted, and how long you've been posting for. Remember, the gallery is looking for someone who they feel is dedicated enough to meet the possible demand for their art.

I'm a professional artist, this guy is not an artist that shows in galleries and he's full of shit! Galleries want different things at different times. What galleries really want is a steady work flow and a high percentage, and they want to do the framing(because that's another margin)but this is all a bunch of junk

wow, art galleries take 40 to 50% commission minus 20% to 25% taxation minus materials (brushes, canvas, brushes, etc.) The rest is the artist's profit. And still, artist has to court that relationship? Dude, just get a regular job.
