It wasn't a big production. Just Stan and his two talented friends. Stan's clothes, no makeup climbing around different locations that are tied to his ancestry.

@kalitaylor9064 Yes. He kept asking Che, "Did you get the shot, did you get the shot? Hurry up. People are coming. " 🤣 It took 2 weeks to write the song, record, video, and send to Ava Duverney. This song was meant to happen.

A great reaction and insight of I AM and Stan who created the video with two friends and wrote the song, all the landscapes were in NZ of land he and his wife connects to through genealogy. Stan and his two friends did this in 2 weeks. I agree Stan needs a category as he and his music hit different. Love from NZ.

This song is featured in the movie, Origin, directed by Ava DuVernay. It’s been released in the past few months, and is an adaptation of the fantastic novel, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents”, by Isabel Wilkerson. Definitely worth a read, as well as watching the film. Stan was approached by DuVernay after hearing his cover of Kayne West’s song, Ultralight Beam, to provide a song for her upcoming film. He’s mentioned in an interview with Tu Edmonds that the song was pretty much living inside him for seven years, and only now seemed the right time for it. In one of Stan's interviews he stated “‘I Am’ is my response to the film. It is about the reclamation, reconciliation and reconnection to our identity and the origins of who we are and where we come from. By knowing who we are we are then able to know where we are going. This is how we unlock our greatest power. ‘I Am’ is taking back the power and giving it back to the people”. Every movement, tatoo, costume in this song has meaning in our Māori culture which we are proud to embrace as a people. He is singing in Te Reo which is the native language of the New Zealand Māori. It is one of the different dialects of the Māori language.

Kia ora Jorge, thank you for your awesome reaction to Stan Walker. The Scenic scenes were shot by Stan and his team and are just for the music video, and the Lady that you see in the actual film clips is the main character in the movie (Actor Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), I have not seen the film and unfortunately can't tell you anything about it. The Maori are a very proud, amazing people and hold their history and traditions in the highest regard and work very diligently to ensure the younger generations know where they come from and also understand that it is them who will carry the mantle of their culture into the future ensuring it's survival. Stan Walker is an outstanding artist with a incredible body of work that is still growing and gets even more amazing with each song, if you would like some suggestions one of my favourite Maori songs Stan sings is "He Kakano Ahau" (I am a seed) "Thank You" (A song he wrote for his mother) and "Ultralight Beam" (A Kayne West cover). All great songs sung wonderfully by Stan.

Stan sings to our hearts and inner spirit. He is able to do this through his love and gift from IO Matua. From God ❤ He stands and sings through his Tupuna, those loved ones who have passed from the physical realm into the Spiritual realm. This is where he gets his power and inner strength from and is why we can feel the Wairua, the (chill feeling). He is on another frequency and we are truly blessed to hear his voice. ❤ Thank you for reacting to Stan Walker, new subscriber in the house 🎉😅 churrrr

Every time, I watched this I cry. 😢 This is a MASTERPIECE. When I hear him say “ OH MAI DA” it affects me because this is the correct pronunciation of my Indigenous Native Tribe in N. California. I speak my language but as I get older I forget some words. The lady is the main character and is in a Spiritual Dilemma with I believe racial injustice seeing the mosque where she’s speaking and the large picture (it looks to be of ) Nazi solutes. I haven’t watched “origins”. Thank you George and Bluedog. ❤️🔥🙏🏽

I am the colour of indigenous people, kiwi. Like we speak English and speak the same words in another language this is what Stan Walker is singing in English, then singing in Maori. Yup have to see the movie to know who the lady character is. Research your history when captain cook and the whites came to the islands in the Pacific and tried to take over them and the people. The Maori, Samoian, Hawaiian tribes made these faces and showed the tattoos of their lineage to scare off the whites. During that time whites were very superstitious, this frightened them. The same was tried to take over the Aboriginal and Native American people but they had there tribal traditional spiritual dances. People of colours had spiritual tribal practices that scared the whites so it was hard to concour or control the people.... Look into Tribal world history.

Stan Walker music is being used for this movie Origion...the woman actor is (NOT ) MAORI We Maori people have being fighting for our voice to be heard...we are a race looked down on and treated second-class...our language is being suppressed so MAORI are fighting back to reclaim their lands which were taken off them...fighting back to keep their language alive...fighting back for their children their whanau and whakapapa and history of their ancestors once a proud people..

Beautuful honest reaction. I Am is the track to the movie Origin that Sran pur together two weeks after being asked by Ava. Stan wrote, sang and co- produced and have just been blessed to watch, with two of his talented friends using locations in Aotearoa/ NZ that Stan has connections to. Its unique and special to other movie tracks and if it dosnt get nominated for an Oscar for all the above it will be because of cultural prejudices. The NZ govt are trying to eradicate Te Reo (Maori language) from being spoken publicly as they have been for years trying to get rid of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (The Treaty) As an indigenous people Maori historically are the only natives to have a treaty to protect our rights and citizenship. Its timely that Stan is using Te Reo in his songs to the world on platforms like KZbin that arnt prejudiced that allow artist like Stan to be identified, exposed and reactions for and to give understanding regardless of ethnicity or location globally ❤❤❤

We've currently had a new government come into our country and try to turn it to crap! Our traditions and culture aren't cared about to them. Who we are as a country, as people & as a whole they don't care about. We're all trying to fight for freedom to express or traditions and our culture within our own country the place we call home & it's being pushed aside like it's nothing. 🤦🏾♀️

Hi Jasmine, I'm sorry to hear about that unfortunate and terrible situation. There is such greed in the world and the people who have power want more of it, since they cannot be satisfied. Hopefully things will change, as the effort of your people shall not go in vain. There's not much I can do, but will try to keep reacting to the videos and spread the word of the good people of your land!
