Great reaction. Wonderful observations. I love when people realize how great the "loosen the noose on the rope" bar is. You wouldn't believe how many reactors just let that one float right by! Thank you! Keep going with Ren. He is an AMAZING storyteller. You should definitely check out The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full version... it's a trilogy but need to be done in order). Also, he can RAP RAP... you'll find a ton of great examples (Illest of our Time, The Hunger, Power, etc...) His band The Big Push is really great too... Have fun!

I also felt "loosen the noose on the rope" was completely overlooked by most reactors. And, if you ever ate Long John Silver's or Red Lobster, the "seafood pretender" is also a very real thing.

You weren't far off when you asked if this was a song about torture. It's about the mental anguish Ren has been dealing with for years. He has Lyme disease, but was misdiagnosed for nearly a decade and just fed a bunch of drugs for mental illness. The man is a true artist, very talented, and extremely brave. Also, aside from the camera work, he's pretty much a one man band. Thanks for the reaction!

They always have a physical reaction to it (like the gotta kill you line). they just appear too scared to address it. I can understand. It IS very confronting for most - something most would rather not contemplate. It's easily the most uncomfortable yet powerful phrase in the whole song.

I don't think it's just that many people are scared to address it, more that he's describing a very specific feeling that only people who have stood on that precipice and chosen to step back again can truly understand. It's something that is very difficult to put into words and though Ren did so perfectly, he still only managed to describe it to those who already know.

It’s amazing how you manage to notice so many of the details, so quickly and with a first viewing too. I’ve probably watched more than 100 reactions and no one has achieved what you have. Most reactors notice the small details according to their own life experience. Psychologists analyse to mental health issues, rappers and musicians connect with his musicality, filmmakers talk about cameras and lighting. All of them struggle to focus on details beyond the words and their special interest. Some get so caught up on the words and feelings that they don’t hear and see anything else; they often even forget to talk.😅 You have done it all. You have an interesting mind.

I think it’s “ YOU “ who is interesting Fibi.( including your cool name) I was turned on to REN’S work yesterday……. Have watched at least 8 reactions so far ………. fascinating to see people’s focus on “aesthetics”( appreciation of beauty ) and you’re 100% right; Snake V was looking at every nook and cranny!!! I was so happy to see him leaving no stone unturned!!! As a jazz composer I too revel in REN’S musical virtuosity! However, as a writer dabbling with short filmmaking, I certainly have to bow ty REN’S on point acting, and to Samuel Perry Falvey’s cinematography input …… just phenomenal. It’s because of interesting, big hearted people like you that’s cause “ Snakes “ subscribers to rise from100 yesterday…… to 662 today 5/1/23 Lastly…… I never thought I would be anxious to see someone else watch a video?……… that’s still a mystery to me……… but, it’s sooooo satisfying to see someone “ rise in consciousness “ before my eyes!! Idk. Anyway, I’ve only seen 2 videos so far…… and I think, at the end of the day………… I’m impressed the most with REN’S bravery and selflessness! If it was up to me……… I’d give him the Nobel Peace Prize!!! His humanitarianism is a rare gift to the world. Ok, Stay sweet, stay safe, and stay interesting Ms. Enn Many blessings!🕯

The "WooHoo" bit at the beginning is clean and cute. At the end it is darker, dirtier, more confident, more mature and arguably a lot better. As if an older more mature musician is performing it. Amazing skill to pull that difference off.

Welcome to the REN Rabbit Hole. This is the artist that keeps on giving. Every tune is a Banger. This one and 'Chalk Outlines' broke me. 'How To Be Me' was emotionally draining. And his Fun and Cheeky Side is done with a fantastic sense of humor and skill ... "LOSING IT" is some of the best RAP on the scene. This guy can spit it with the icons. I also thought this deserved an award and I was trying to think what category you would put it in for a Grammy. It finally dawned on me the best category is actually an Academy Award for Best Short Film - this isn't a song. Aside from the cinematography, his acting is spot on - his body language changing in an instant - his voice - his facial expressions. This was a live recording (you can see the wires on his back at the end), so he didn't shoot one "character", reposition, then shoot the other "character". I think they edited in some of the closeups (especially the monologue at the end), but it's essentially live. Ren was the Director, but cinematography was handled by Samuel Perry-Falvey. He helps put this over the top and seems to handle most of Ren's solo videos. Ren masters several genres, but with your eye for cinematography, I strongly suggest "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)". It's comprised of three videos that are also available individually, but the full version is essentially in the tradition of a Shakespearian tragedy. Since these are also live recordings, they really use the acoustic properties of the environment (Especially in the 3rd part, "Violet's Tale").

I don't normally watch reaction videos but have watched many for Hi Ren. Yours is by far the most illuminating and tied up so many of the loose ends in understanding the song and video and for that I thank you. The observation I made is, at the beginning of the video the lights are not flashing when Ren contentedly performed the wordless vocal before his 'demon' appears. then at the end he is content to perform the same piece with his 'demon' present (i.e. the lights flashing) signifying that he has come to terms with his 'demons'. Great reaction video 🙂

I've watched many too, maybe not 500, finally realized tonight that the dance at the end, is THE dance he mentions in his ending monologue. He is for the first time in the video projecting his whole self, the light and the shadow. Not sure why it took so many views for me to finally see it. I haven't got to that part of this reaction video, I'll be curious what he sees.

You went deep. That was excellent. I know Ren appreciates that. There are live streams from him where he mentions how much he loves reactors and how artists and reactors can help each other. He talks a lot about lifting each other up. But he was super excited watching Knox Hill dissect Illest of Our Time. Anyway, based on how you felt about this and how you responded to it, there's an amazing rabbit hole to go down. Ren really is a once in a generation, maybe even a lifetime talent. Here's a breakdown of the rabbit hole to get you started: Chalk Outlines- look for the live one he did with Chinchilla (sidebar- she is incredible and has 2 joints worth checking out: Little Girl Gone and Fingers (live version of fingers will blow your mind)). Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet- each came out singly, but he has a video where all 3 are in order. It's the gold standard for story telling and artistry. I don't believe I'm overselling it at all if I say he has Shakespearean level of skill with his tragic story telling. I think you'll especially appreciate how he uses ambient reverb and room sizes. These are also 1 take performances. To get an idea of the scope of what he can do, I'd break it down like this- watch those 3 together. Next I'd watch some live performances. A tremendous one is one he did with his band The Big Push. Check out "I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop." Prepare to be blown away. Next, grab "The Hunger." Think you've got a handle on how many genres he can do masterfully? Check out Money Game Part 2, Humble (feat Eden Nash), and I forgot how to be me. (Live version with Chinchilla) Real talk: these are all some of the most incredible, lyrically packed, musically brilliant, and masterfully performed songs ever, and I'm also a musician and super difficult to impress with new music. This guy broke my mind.

Thank you for this reactions. You caught more than most others. Especially the part about the rope. I am 74 years old. My first time of hearing Ren was this one. By the end I crying like a baby. My family, myself, my children have been through hell, each with their own demons. Struggles in life with our own doubts, dreams and disappointments, and then the b.s. from others interjecting their ideas about this and that. My son is bi-polar, my daughter suffers from agoraphobia and anxiety attacks. My issue is talking to myself and hating myself, fighting my demons and at the same time trying to save everyone else. Life is sometimes a real bitch. I will sometimes shed a tear when hearing this, but I've stopped the sobbing. Ren is amazing at having us see ourselves and recognizing the trials we go through. Whether we are physically ill or just an ordinary human that is in some emotional pain. I am tired of telling my subconscious to shut the hell up! Yet the battle continues and I see it for what it is, actually helping me with decisions and life directions. Where do we go from here? Where ever it leads us, don't force it, accepting whatever or fighting it if you can.

Oh man. The previous commenters were not exaggerating. The amount of details you caught on the first watch is INSANE. Instant subscribe. Some of the small details I have so far only seen one person notice,.youtuber called Lightmane, who is not even a reactor, he just watched a lot of reactions and realised nobody seems to notice what he noticed, so he wanted to share it with the world. But you noticed them on the first watch! And what amazes me the most is that you did it while at the same time remaining a normal, emotional human being! In other words, if you would be just a cold analyst with mad eye for details, it would be easier to accept (I want to believe I'd catch them too if I wasn't too overwhelmed with emotion), but no, you were very clearly strongly reacting emotionally, and still being able to notice them. You will definitely need to do a reaction on his Trilogy about Jenny, Screetch and Violet (which may be even a longer reaction video but I wouldn't mind), Money Game Part 1, and his latest song Illest Of Our Time - but of course, there are many more incredibly diverse and interesting songs from Ren that you should check out, including his cooperations with other amazing independent artists or busking with his band The Big Push. It's just so much fun!!

I see it has been mentioned below, but I will add my support for reacting to The Tale of Jenny and Screech, the trilogy. It is three separate videos and needs to be done in order of Jenny, Screech and Violet's stories. Snake, if you were moved by the songwriting, structure and performance of "Hi Ren", then you will be astounded by Jenny and Screech. I subbed and made the bell black.

NICE REACTION!!! I've watched more than Im willing to admit... & you picked up on some visual clues I've not noticed or heard others notice before. Subscribed! . Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. Ren isn't limited by anything... especially not genre. You'll see.😊 Might I suggest The Tale of Jenny and Screech Trilogy [Full]. The order is important... so finding the full Trilogy video is helpful: Jenny... Screech... then Violet...in that order. Sick Boi is a good next step... followed by The Hunger. Then for a switch... Ren and Chinchilla's collaborations: How To Be Me & Chalk Outlines. Losing It and Genesis next. You can't go wrong. Oh... & his busking videos with the band The Big Push... and with Sam Tomkins... they won't disappoint either. ENJOY!!! That's just the start.

Amazing analysis! I was super impressed with how many details you noticed that I had missed after watching so many times. When you mentioned the shadow and that third source of light from the top right, it made me notice the kind of “godly” light just barely shining down and the subsequent dark shadow casted to the bottom left floor, totally going along with his message of “the brighter the light shines, the darker the shadow.” Thanks for helping me understand this even better!

listened to the 2nd half and saw you picked up on the viictim and student line. I think that is important and you are the first person I have heard that agrees with that statement, if you watch it again notice that the first time he does the " yodeling" the lights are not flashing, you noticed that they were during the 2nd sequecnce of yodeling, I think that represents that he has learned that the struggles he went through are what allows him to be so creative, without his dark side he would not be the incredible artist he is. The flickering lights at the end represent the power given to his creativity by acepting and learning from all aspects of his mind. I am subscribing to you in the hope that you react to some of his other videos, he has very profound thoughts and an uncanny ability to communicate them to a very wide range of people.

Well now only two have said it.. i just thought that was cool u noticed it. When he says f*** you, to the bad Ren, where his voice cracks, almost breaks me everytime. Like u can feel his pain/emotions. And then i almost cry, but a good cry, when he stands.. its just such a beautiful song. Beautifully done. I hope u dive into more of his music. You wont be disappointed. I love seeing more reactors listening to his music..He definitely deserves it. Thank you..

Incredible reaction! I've watched dozens if reactions and I can't believe how much you picked up from one viewing. I think of this as 3 voices: evil with large light, Ren with little light stuck in the corner, and hope the light above. When you get to the part where you say he has a mental break, that is what he references in his monologue about the battle of good and evil being futile. Then at the final song all three voices are able to sing together to make improvements over the intro song. Also, it is interesting to see a few reactors jump on the segment about doctors pushing pills. They agree with the dark side that doctors don't know what they are doing and go down the evil pharma rabbit hole. These reactors forget (see monologue) that doctors are students and human beings.

Great insights. I’ve watched this music video hundreds of times and one of the items I really agonized over was the flickering lights in the outro. I was afraid it was intended to say that the darkness was actually taking control. But I think your take is much more accurate, it’s him showing that he has learned to live with (and dance) with darkness. That he can still create and dance and have joy even with that darkness as a part of him. Thank you.

“I would battle the forces of evil, and for the next 10 years I suffered the consequences” this is one of the most profound lines that goes unnoticed. Because for anyone who has given themselves to a life of faith, it’s unreal how fast darkness attacks you when you turn your self toward the light.

Great review! You definitely caught some things others missed. New sub. I think: There are 3 Rens. The dark, the light, and the whole Ren. I think the whole Ren may be represented by the the spotlight from above, as it is much brighter than the other 2. If you notice, after the dark has his rant, the whole Ren comes in, and the voice is different than the other 2. Just my opinion. I look forward to more reactions.
