Thank you this was so helpful! I have been looking for a good budget brand. My favorite pencils now are Luminance but would like some cheaper ones to travel with etc so I’m going to try the London pencils. They are now 70 dollars on Amazon so since not in a hurry I’ll wait for them to go down. Thank you again.

Thank you for this very thorough review of both the Artisto and Evagar London pencils. I would like to know what the texture was of the paper given to you to swatch your Artisto pencils, please. Artisto sent me super smooth paper for my swatch. The pencils wouldn't layer on this paper. The 3rd layer would either lift up the layer below instead of laying over it or would shove the lower layer around bunching it up and exposing down to the 1st layer and even to the paper below. Many pencils crumbled a lot and stained the paper so badly that even an electric eraser designed for colored pencils couldn't remove the stain. The crumbles need to be swept away immediately with a very soft brush or the stain will be permanent. I truly don't know if the problem was due to the swatch paper or to the pencils, but I had the same problem on a slightly smooth coloring page out of a coloring book. The pencils sharpened well in an electric sharpener as long as I pulled them out before the auto stop. I still got an excellent point and saved pencil. The auto stop doesn't seem to realize that softer pencils sharpen more quickly, Practice lets you know how long you need to get a good point and pull your pencil out before auto stop.

Hi Dee. I used Springhill Bristol vellum. It is a toothy paper not overly so but not smooth either. I love to work on it but I like keeping the pages in the book. I think I swatched first on the paper they sent and used that to get them in the order I prefer. I don’t recall having problems but I wasn’t really trying to layer, just getting the color down in order to create my family order. I don’t find mine to be crumbly in general. Here and there crumbs. Maybe you got a bad set? I definitely don’t have any problems with the evazar.
