Deitch spent most of his life in Prague, where he relocated back in 1959 when Rembrandt Films promised to fund Munro. He lived there his whole life and sadly passed unexpectedly on April 16, 2020 at the ripe age of 95. Since hearing about his passing, artists from all over the world have flooded the Internet with touching artwork as tribute to the late illustrator.

Remember it like yesterday. Mom brought home the first episode of Tom and Jerry on DVD. Me and my brother were addicted. (It was that episode where Tom tried impressing this rich, short, grey fancy cat girl). Eventually, more and more dvds came in until it made a whole pile. I would sometimes borrow episodes from cousins as I was so addicted. I can properly say that I have a whole stack of DVDs. All DVDs created by this man who shaped my childhood. From I was 5 to now. Uhm, Gene Deitch did not create Tom and Jerry. He only did his own version (13 shorts with less than stellar animation). You're thinking of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera as the creators of Tom and Jerry
