It suffers from the disease it tries to diagnose: the film cannot imagine another way of living. It understands what some of our worst problems are but since it knows nothing of the people suffering from them it cannot begin to imagine a way out. Stylistically, it does succeed in moving around so untethered, so oddly, that the paucity of imagination in contemporary mainstream American filmmaking becomes very clear. What'd you think?
