I haven’t liked all of the decisions he has made. But the man created a modern day mythology that changed the world. He also fundamentally changed the film industry as well. Love him or hate him he’s done a lot for the art of cinema. I’m also grateful for so many of the characters, world, and philosophies he has presented an explored through his stories.

Whether people like it or not, he is a visionary. The same people most likely take the technology used to produce movies nowadays for granted. Not realizing modern movies (mostly blockbusters) wouldn't exist as they do, for better or worse, because of Lucas. A lot of them probably are MCU fans and even though Phase 4 dropped the ball and Phase 5 didn't start that well, none of it would probably exist without him. It's because of him and ILM that Iron Man looked that good. Because they had their trial and errors prior to it with the Prequels and other movies. Anyways, I'll end it here before I go into too much ranting. Cheers from France! 🍻

Without a doubt. And the legacy of Lucasfilm continues in that spirit. But that isn’t the issue. Who really denies what you said? I think the tragedy of George Lucas is that while he was doing a lot for the art of cinema, he was systematically and pointlessly revising, reworking, replacing and displacing _Star Wars,_ his one unequivocal success. And he ruined it. He _actually_ ruined it. George Lucas took _Star Wars_ back from all of us and has been slowly transforming it into something else ever since. Why? Because he can? “Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to.” And that’s what Lucas did: he has erased the past. Because, I guess, he had to.

I agree with what you said but at the same time you could say the way he changed the film industry lead to all the remakes sequels and franchises that push out other indie filmmakers from doing original stuff. And no george is definitely not SOLEY responsible for that but its kind of an indirect consequence

In the Wolf Man Jack book, he wrote that he was paid a couple of thousand dollars for his part. When American Graffiti was a hit and George Lucas felt he made the movie. George Lucas gave Wolf Man Jack a percentage of the profits. Classy move and kept Wolf Man Jack from going broke.

@@captlazer5509 , not sure i know Warner Bros owns THX 1138, and Universal American Graffiti. Universal also owns Howard the Duck the film but not the rights to the character which reside with Disney. I think Disney got the rights back from Paramount for Indiana Jones for the 5th movie. I wonder if they keep the rights to the first 4. Fox owned Star Wars 77, but Disney bought Fox. The Student films are property of the University of Southern California. His ideas were sort of interesting, would really have to have had them fully worked out in a screenplay. What i wasn't sold on was Maul as the new big bad. Disney Star Wars is awful.
@bdr113080
@bdr113080 Жыл бұрын
I don’t really think he sold it to them and they had a handshake agreement that he would do what he wanted them to do. I mean yeah he can make suggestions but he flat out said he never wanted to make any more Star Wars movies. We’re Disney drop. The ball was thinking it was a good idea to shuffle movie directors, and tell them just to make up a script as they went. I think the force awakens was awesome, but because nobody really knew where these characters came from or where they were going when they made the second movie Rian Johnson didn’t have any direction on where to take anyone, so he just killed off the main good guy in the main bad guy and I don’t care if George Lucas and Steven Spielberg teamed up to do the rise of Skywalker they were screwed from the beginning because they were starting over from scratch. As far is why George Lucas sold Star Wars you don’t have to look any further than the most toxic Fanbase in the world. I love Star Wars, but I don’t love every movie so the only time I watch attack of the clones is when we are doing a Star Wars marathon other than that I never watch that movie. It’s so bad it’s cringe at places. But I’ve never accused George Lucas of inappropriately doing something to my childhood or harassed actors online. Nope I just don’t watch the movie. Problem solved. When you look at everything, George Lucas went through, both actors that played Anakin in the prequels went through, the actor that played jar jar and everything he went through. I don’t blame him. The man created one of the most beloved franchises in the world, and for the next 20 years, the fans would not leave him alone about how bad they thought the prequels were so then he sells it and then everyone sitting around with their mouth open going “ well why did George sandwich this is it right?” It’s kind of like how the Zack Snyder fans never supported Zack Snyder when he was working for Warner Bros. but then the minute they showed him the door because the fans didn’t like his movies they decided he was the god of directors and only he could make the right DC movies they wanted. Bottom line the fans in the world of geek culture. Have a favorite past time of complaining and getting online and harassing people, and some people would rather just walk away then deal with the basement dwellers.

Not in the slightest. If anything, he's one of the worst, to the point that Gil Taylor, the head cameraman on ANH, had to get Lucas away from the camera on at least one occasion because he could see that Lucas didn't know what he was doing. Lucas' idea of lighting would've also made the film look flat rather than atmospheric as well.

@@JohnnyNiteTrain I think that's what he was saying. The OP says that Lucas is the greatest filmmaker, but Spielberg is clearly a far, far superior filmmaker than Lucas will ever be. A lot of what we see on screen in Spielberg movies is down to his personal dynamism, whereas everything I've seen, heard and read about Lucas' films has been him leaving most of the creative side to other people. As a director he himself has said that he sits quiet and miserable, and needs others to even remind him to say "Action!" and "Cut!". Gil Taylor, the head cameraman on ANH, described Lucas as "elusive", and he was mostly forced to make his own decisions. He found Lucas to be such a bad director that he refused to ever work with him again.

I will forever be greatful to Geore Lucas for giving us Star Wars. I was 5 and I'm now 49, I still remember sitting in the Cinema, with the first two notes played at the beginning I was hooked. I also liked his remastered versions, and I have no issue with JarJar Binks. A lot of people forgett it was made for Kids, not only us. My daughter 9 years old liked JarJar. The casting was poor, however we got what we wanted, the Rise of Darth Vader. I can also understand that he sold everything, it was his baby and he can do with it what he wanted. That Disney is messing it up and went down the Woke Lane could no one expect. Infact the first Movie (Rouge One), is my favorite from all the Disney Star Wars. I like it because everyone is dead at the end, which is fully in line with the very first movie (many people gave theire lives to get these plans to us).

The number of people who has done that is miniscule. The vast, VAST majority of the people who hated the prequels back in the 2000s still hate them today. What has hapened is that most of the people who watched them as kids and loved then grew up and now they voice their opinion. I want to see Disney lose massive amounts of value, dropping to the point that Lucas himself can buy the company, change its name to “Lucas”, destroy all the Star Wars sequels and a huge amount of recent Disney films, and as the capper, put Mickey Mouse into the public domain. The new mascot? Jar Jar of course.

@@robmoye7373 I don't know if he still refuses it. Disney has the rights for over 10 years now. But is this reason enough to condemn his whole career and treat him like he's the worst guy ever? He's not the first artist in the history of men who doesn't want certain art pieces to be shown anymore. Many painters destroyed some of their own paintings so the public couldn't see them anymore. With the original SW movies, there's at least the possibility to find them online or on vhs. But yeah, Disney should just release the movies in some kind of special edition. I believe fans of the original trilogy misunderstood the intent of the prequels, thinking it was for them. It was not. He recognised that there was a whole new generation of young film viewers who wouldn't watch the original trilogy because it had become dated. For many fans of star wars, like myself, the prequels were a part of my childhood and an introduction which ushered in a massive wave of new fans. I understand that dialogue wise the films were weak, but for a 11 year old kid watching Yoda flip like 50 times was cool as fuck. I was around 14 when I watched Revenge of the Sith and I absolutely loved it, the films became more serious as I grew up much like the Harry Potter series and allowed me to appreciate themes like tragedy, betrayal and in some respects even mental health.

Regarding the Star Wars Special Editions, while I like some of the changes Lucas made and I get how ANH really didn't match his vision because of the limits of technology, I think his biggest mistake was not allowing fans to make up their own minds what they wanted, had he given fans that choice I'm pretty sure more people would have been a lot more forgiving no matter what changes he made.

6 is the end. 7-8-9 are just corporate films that largely missed the point, have nothing to do with George and cancelled the og films just by bringing back the dark side. Even if you like Clone Wars, anything after III is just George gradually giving up until he eventually sold to Disney. CW has too many elements like Ahsoka that make no sense in the context of the films.
