The difference is comedians create with the sole intent of making people laugh. True artists in any medium ie music, paint, dance are following a passion that burns inside of them regardless of how they are received by their audience. Once you start creating with money in mind you have lost your artistic way. That’s why we are in the space we are in now with music because there are too many opportunists in the space and not actual creatives.

You may or may not know them but there all rich. the problem with the hip hop Community is we only focus on the small minority of artists at the top. I'll say that's a great advice for breaking through and building your fan base, but once you're stablished with 1 or 2 popular albums, I really apreciate artists taking risks and try pushing the limits of what popular music can be. Some concepts may push the bar some won't, but at least they tryed. Then return to the hit songs when it's time and do that shit in cycles. Thats how you build a legacy because lets be honest, nobody thinks of 50 like a legacy artist with all due respect. Some artist do that masterfully. A good example in my opinion was Mac Miller.

Someone needs to do their research, because every great artist from the past has had their own style but these new artists over the last 10 years has no individuality my ears need a change because if we’re going to keep going the way we’re going, we might as well only have one artist if we all sound the same. Once you discover the formula…. Trust it…. Remember when Future tried to break the mold and made that album full of love songs…. Keyshia Cole took a hit being happy, Mary J Blidge expressed how people only want to hear her crying on her albums….Hell, even Bob Dylan said when he got more experimental with his music he lost a large mass of his fan base. You can be different and still fit inside the industry. Drake, Fabulous, French Montana, Kodak Black, Carrie B, and Yo Gotti are totally different artist, but the production consistently fits the current sound of the industry.

The only reason we got people as talented as Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Eminem, Andre 3k, etc is because of honesty. If people back then were afraid to tell these emcees that they suck, when they did, they never would have gotten that good at it. The reason we will never see talented artists like this again is because 1) no one takes rap as seriously today as they did back then. Every single rapper out rn is just in it for a bag. None of them really care about the art form of rap anymore. 2) labels restricting the freedom of artists. 3) lack of honesty. These rappers suck because anybody who tells them they suck are lying and the only people telling the truth are the people that like it. Without criticism u don't know what needs improvements and if u don't improve, you deteriorate. Rappers today fear criticism which means they don't know what needs improvements. And because they don't know what needs improvements, they deteriorate. It's sad because I was listening to biggie this morning and I thought to myself.... This shit is like 3 decades old and I'm still listening to it and enjoying it... yet there's people that dropped music a couple months ago that I just don't care to listen to again, if I even listened to the full project to begin with. That shit says a lot. Until honesty is welcomed back into society, rap is done. It cannot last much longer if it continues this way.

Say what you disagree with. Everything in this convo is proven almost everywhere you look so I want to see if you're missing the nuances and not just paying attention to the seemingly "hot takes" that stand out.

WHAT WORKS FOR SOME PPL...WONT WORK FOR EVERYONE! 50 CENT COULD BE RIGHT AND WRONG AT THE SAME TIME..BUT HONESTLY A LOT OF THESE RAPPERS ARENT LASTING OR GETTING ATTENTION BECAUSE THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE, TALK ABOUT THE SAME SHIT AND FOLLOWING OTHER PPL! LEADERS LEAD...
