I really enjoy your videos. The added explanations that you give are more useful than what I've heard from teachers in my painting classes. Thank you for adding that the oxide red is also the same color as burnt sienna as this is not commonly known by beginning painters. Also - the comment about the width of each eyeball is roughly the same width between the eyes is an incredibly helpful hint. THANK YOU! All of your videos are stellar!

This is so much better than art school where mostly you learn nothing important. Thank you. You're terrific. I paint in acrylic or watercolor. It's a bit of a blending problem if I make a mistake.

Great explanations while painting, and references such as distances and colors blendings. I find your tutorials very helpful and will be referring to them on many occasions. Thank you!

"Don't paint the eyes white" has been the best advice I ever got. Just by painting eye's off white with highlights, makes them look very alive. Thank you, and I really wish you would make more videos.

Hi Olivia, I use oils and paint the entire painting in one setting. With oil, you can cover a dry area with "Liquin" so the surface feels like wet paint and the new paint goes on easily and smoothly.

Brand of paint is Rembrandt (dickblick website) about $10 per tube. Brushes are Langnickel Royal Sable (dickblick or Jerry's Artarama website) about $7 per brush.

Firstly thanks for yr vids.. Question..Is it right to say that you add the least thinner possible to thin down the paints to a consistency that your paint is not too runny!

I am a newbie to just drawing, but I've been trying to work on all aspects of the woman's face and I love your videos. I'm not ready to paint yet until I learn to draw right, so it will be awhile for me to be able to do this. I am so glad I found your videos, which I can tell will help me tremendously. Thank you so much, your talent is awesome. Take care~~

Your videos are very interesting. I have subscribed to your channel. I wanted to ask you something and hope you can answer my question. Does it matter whether you paint vertically or horizontally in portraits? Most painters paint on an easle but it's because they paint in oils. But does it have an influence on the perspective especially in portraits (not landscapes) if your painting is vertical or horizontal? I noticed that painting flat, the perspectives of the face get distored.
@OliviaGraySinger-Songwriter11 жыл бұрын
Your eyes look amazing and so real. Since you are painting with oils do you always wait during the process of your work for the colours to dry or are you painting immediately while the colours are still wet to blend the values? Since I mostly paint with acrilics, the colours dry very quick and therefore you can paint over the layers immediately. But I find portraits somehow more beautiful with oils. Thanks a lot for your time and answers.

Hi Olivia, I prefer to paint vertical however I do know painters who paint horizontal (even portraits). They seem to be able to keep control of the perspective. Thanks!

Omg bless you for sharing your style and secrets!! One question, is this an acrylic painting? I've been painting oils and poster colors the most. And I still can't make my watercolors and acrylics done as good as how I do my oils. I'm planning to go for acrylics because it's cheaper and I won't have to suffer from the smell of harmful chemicals. Again, thank you! I subbed :)

Could I ask something?: I'm trying to make a baroque style painting for art class, and it's a protrait of a little girl. Would I have to work fast in blending the colors because I'm using acrylic? I'm afraid that i could not blend them in time...

Hi, Mr. Lewis. Could you make a video drawing/painting a female mouth in the 3/4 view pose? Also, maybe, as subsequent portions, could you finish out the group by adding an, -$eyes 3/4 view pose video, a nose 3/4 view pose video and a face/cheeks/chin/ forehead (etc. try rest of face, pretty much) in 3/4 view pose? Thank you for generously sharing your experience and knowledge with us all! May God Bless all of your endeavors abundantly, showering you with gifts and special graces! [All thru Christ, our Lord, Amen!!!].
