Cool mandolin. What is the purpose of the wooden cover over the tailpiece? Is it just a fancy armrest? And the rubber grommets over the strings below the bridge?
@GeanieVincent6 жыл бұрын
Yes, bowlback mandolins, especially in the classical professional line, often are made with arm rests so that the player doesn’t feel discomfort with their forearm is resting over the corner for long periods of time. And the rubber grommets are called overtone grommets and reduce noise coming from the sympathetic vibrations of open strings when certain notes are played. Some mandolins produce more prominent overtones than others.

02:15: My transcript tells me that we call this interval "the semen" -- she says in German: "Dezimen", a tenth. So don't be too shocked. 😊
