This video is some of the hardest proof I've ever seen that music is a language. These two are literally talking back and forth to each other with guitars. If anyone liked this video and hasn't seen Julian Lage live I would highly recommend seeing him. The whole show is so full of this same kind of playful energy between he and the people he is playing with.

Both great players- there's so much hype about Julian lage and he lives up to it, but people don't listen with their ears. This is not a situation where Martin taylor is lucky to be playing with Julian or where either player should be intimidated by the other, Martin Taylor is a monster player but both these guys are playing musically, not just technically and athletically. I'm not a guitarist, but I'm damned happy I landed on this channel. I came across Martin, sound-wise- through a record of French music with the late Marcel Azzolla. I'm sure Martin remembers this album. The French "Valse swingue" or "Valse Musette" are a different, but very rich, approach to that rare bird in Jazz- the WALTZ. It's been a joy to discover this young talent, Julian Lage. Thank you for posting.

There's nothing better than playing with another guitarist that truly respects and understands the nature of the instrument and all the capacities of the many roles it can fulfill... I've done it with my teachers and mentors who have helped me to build these understandings and these times have taught me invaluable lessons of being sensitive to what the other is playing at all times, and these are two masters of the art of playing this beautiful instrument that we all love, and a video like this could serve as a master class in jazz guitar duet. Wonderful!

A very exciting discovery in music...! best
@jazzerson70878 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Unlike blues/rock you can't fake jazz. The level of harmonic understand comes with many years of *HARD** study and practice, and a deep familiarly with soloing over certain chords and standards. As Bill Evans says it takes years to "develop the facility to play jazz" so you don't have to think about theory. I've been trying to learn jazz for a few years now and when I see this level of playing it is upsetting haha, particularly when you learn that Julian could play this tune at 10 LOL.
@Guitfiddlejase7 жыл бұрын
James Anderson what a great reply! I couldn't agree more with what you have said here.. I have been playing longer than I would care to admit. I have been playing jazz for more years than many..and I'll tell ya'..EVERYTHING you have said I can personally attest to.. Bill Evans was more right than we know..and yet Julian Lage shows up and "just lays waste to the place like...!" Humbled to say the least.. He's just a kid!! and his mind..his INVENTION in improvisation is out of control.. I wonder what Bill Evans would have thought of him..or Scott Lefaro for that matter!!

Wow. I can only look on (and listen, of course!) with awe and amazement ... and envy ... at what these two individuals are capable of doing on their instrument.
