My main concerns with systemd are that it is overreaching and prodding most of the rest of Linux distros along with it, reducing choice. It's sort of like Ubuntu with their Snaps and such. In and of itself as an initializer it seems more or less alright, but it's too needlessly dominating in the ecosystem and in its implementations elsewhere.

As others have said of themselves, I’m not a programmer, so I don’t quite understand the problem many people have with systemd. Be that as it may, I watched a video on Artix OS (using runit) back in July and thought I'd give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised. After running it as a secondary OS for 2 to 3 weeks, I decided to install it as my main system, and I'm really starting to enjoy it. So far I haven't run into any major problems (no more than I would using a standard Arch OS), and it seems to boot quite a bit faster, and with less memory, than the same system did using systemd. I'm definitely glad I found it!

It's not a question of whether or not systemd works. It's a question of the motive behind it. The lead dev says his goal is to "own everything between the kernel and userspace". It isn't just an init system anymore. He's trying to hijack linux and turn it into his own version of Windows. There are other options that work every bit as well, are less buggy, and aren't malware. Systemd is a hostile takeover.

@Panagiotis A Natsis Once again thank you for the information and it will go into the "Book Of Linux By Bruce"... The story goes, I do a manual build of Spectrwm for Mint 20 and I DO Not use "Make Install" to install the binary. I made a script that set all the files to the ~/bin and I run it from their. Mint has the real Old Version in the repo I wanted the newer one. Well on 2 of the tests the build didn't work right and Spectrwm would not load and spit me back to LightDm. This happen 2 times out of 25 tests. :-( So I started Cinnamon and ran the command spectrwm in the terminal and it did nothing. Keep in mind this is a stock build and the Spectrwm.conf is NOT configured! So I built it again and when I ran the command spectrwm in the terminal again, I get the output of " Spectrwm 3.4.1 and there is another WM Running"..! So I gave it another go and SpectrWm loaded from LightDm... :-D This worked both times... Lol Btw I don't use the default bar, I use a conky. Lol I use the Ubuntu mono fonts in the .conf file and things seem to work.. If you are interested you can go at look at my project on my Github. github.com/bescott9944 Take care and Thanks! Systemd is like cancer, it's spreading everywhere, making software dependent of itself, and thus trashing big part of what makes Linux great. I don't get the benefits of doing this. As it certainly isn't speed of booting, don't know if Threadrippers etc. would be booting much faster with systemd, but my openRC boots as fast as systemd on 4 threads. And I'm not using OpenRC parallel option, which would speed up that somewhat. I really don't like that so many distros are moving towards Systemd/Linux systems, as that's essentially the truth of how far that cancer has spread already.
