I worked at Costco. These members were an older couple. Everytime they came in, the wife would abuse the cashiers and be super rude! She was mean and nasty for no reason. Her husband would stand off to the side away from her so the cashier wouldn't know they were together. Once she walked away, the cashier and her assistant would talk crap about her. Her husband would stand there, off to the side, and listen to them vent. Then he would tell his wife everything they said! She would complain to the sore manager AND call corporate! When I worked at Walmart, I had a Karen come in trying to get a rotisserie chicken for a lower price because sam’s club across the street offered a larger portion for a cheaper price. Mind you it was 11pm and we were super busy with only three lanes open and the self checkout area which I was in charge of. She held up the register for an hour while me and my coworker tried to get our manager down there who was busy doing other stuff. She didn’t get her chicken for the lower price and we ended up having to toss the chicken in the end because it was no longer food safe after two hours of arguing with the lady. Karen story for you!: I work at a Tim Hortons. A customer came in and tried to sit down before ordering (which with our new policies due to covid isnt supposed to happen so a team member politely raise her voice so he could her hear and asked him to please order first. He got a muffin went and sat down, then realized that our WIFI is not available anymore which we have posted on our front doors. So come back up to the counter and demand a refund for the muffin. The team member came and got me (I'm a supervisor) I asked the man what I could do for him as no manager is available, and he started to tell and scream about how we "manipulated" him into to buying the muffin in order to sit down and we were yelling at him the second he walked in, and since he wasn't staying anymore wanted it refunded. I apologized and said that I couldnt refund the muffin as it was his choice to buy it and no one manipulated him, that we posted on our door about not having WiFi, and that the team member was just doing her job by informing him about our policy for ordering. He threw an actual tantrum like a child tossed the muffin and walked out screaming. When I went to clean it up another customer who had seen the whole thing was kind enough to tell me I had handled the situation extremely well and that he couldn't have stayed as calm as me with "that jacka**!" Lmao just one of many Karen issues I've dealt with.

I work in the bakery/deli department of a grocery store. Once had a lady order a cake and just said she wanted blue icing. asked her the shade but she just repeated blue. later when she picked it up she complained it was the wrong shade blue, took a handful of the cake and threw it at us, hitting my department manager. Thought my manager was about to jump over the counter. called for store manager and she called the police had the lady removed and they pressed charges of assault and she was banned.

I have sooooo many stories I could tell you. I work at the post office and have an 80 year old lady that comes in every day to get her P.O. Box mail. She started off being nice when I started working in that office, but then she got real demanding and rude and told me how to do my job. And when things didn’t go her way she’d start crying and say how she worked here and over saw the place being built and made it the post office that it was. And she’s upset watching it go downhill....she retired almost 30 years ago and can’t let it go. She thinks she still runs the place and says she “misses the people”, but she still works in her family’s and the town only hardware store and works at the church. She still sees the people. Then another lady awhile back came in with a package she wanted to return to amazon. It was still open and didn’t have a return label or at the very least a new handwritten label with the return address. She told me amazon said she could just bring it to the post office and we’d return it for her. I asked her if she had a return label or address and she said no amazon said you’d take it. I told her she’d have to readdress it, seal the package and pay to return it. She got frustrated with me and said “what’s it gonna cost?!” To which I said I need the return address to be able to give her the price. So she grabbed the package and then, in a very Karen way, pointed to the return address on the package and said “there! How long have you worked at the post office?!” I told her almost 7 years. So she said “you’ve worked at the post office 7 years and you can’t figure out where the return address is on package?!” I told her that that address is for the warehouse it came from but with Amazon that’s not necessarily the same address it would be returned too. I eventually got her to tape the package closed but then I asked her to get a free label and fill it out so it could go over the old label and wouldn’t come back to her, she flipped out and snatched the package off the counter and said “I have never in my life been so mistreated! What’s your name?!” I told her my name and it was all I could do to not laugh and ask her if she wanted my employee ID number too. She said she was gonna report me and walked out the door. I had to keep myself from telling her to not let the door hit her on the way out. So, yea. I had a Karen get mad at me for helping her.

I work a small family deli, during these current times we are very lucky be busier than usual and employ a decent staff for an establishment as small as it is. We only have enough room for three people to be making subs, sandwiches, and salads while the other seven handle the order taking, phones, cleaning, and restocking prep that we have run out of. Today was one of our busier days, everyone was constantly moving, running and bagging to goes, and we were doing awesome with an 8-10 minute ticket times, running 2 ovens (we recently added one oven a few months ago due to the increase in business), with an average of 20 tickets on the board, and another 10 hanging from the machine. We had 3 incidents today alone. People coming to the counter ask if their food was done yet. I checked the time on the ticket and my watch, literally 6 minutes after placing the orders. They said they watched people who were in line after them, had got their food and left. We work with hot and cold sandwiches and every one is made to order, if you ordered a hot sandwich it will take longer because it has to cook. Obviously, but not to them, people who got cold sandwiches and subs get them faster because we can knock them out in about 90 seconds a piece, ticket, dressed, wrapped, bagged and in your hand. We understand that people may not want to wait anywhere in public right now but when you see 11 people dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodging in a 4 feet wide area like they are making a Dodgeball sequel but with subs, maybe just a little bit of patience isn't a bad thing. We are making your order as quickly as everyone else, in a triage manner and when you ask "Where is my food? I've been waiting and people who were behind me left." It's been 6 minutes, I just waited 20 mins at the drive thru at McDonald's the other night for some french fries. It makes us want to push your sandwiches back and make you wait even longer but we don't because when we hand you a half cooked sub it just doesn't taste as good as a fully cooked one. I waited those 20 minutes and enjoyed every bite of those fresh french fries, how was your still cold in the center sub? Not as satisfying? Maybe a little patience does effect your happiness.

Worked at Bojangles for a while. Had a customer that always tried to get free food. I had handled cash so asked the customer to give me a moment to wash my hands. The wash station was in customer view.... Washed my hands, walking back to the serving area as I was drying my hands. Put my gloves on the he proceeded to tell me what food choices he wanted. this man watched me make his entire plate. Then at the end demanded it for free as I 'didn't wash my hands.' Needless to say say after he called corporate to get me fired, I kept my job and he was banned from our store.
