Just remember for those like me doing the HSC tomorrow. Be confident. Have your preparation ready and how you will plan to divide your time. Remember your structural and quotes + techniques. Easy said than done. One thing I can say is don’t procrastinate in the exam

Could you please give me some advice on staying motivated in this last week before the exams start? With so little time left, I just feel there's nothing I can do anymore even though I logically know I can. I planned out what I was going to do each day and I've been falling behind which is stressing me out more.

Motivation is always a struggle! Do you have a friend you can pair up with and do study sessions together? This is always a great way to keep each other accountable and stay motivated!

how should i divide my time up for paper 1?
@ArtofSmartTV

45 mins per section as per allocated to give you the best chance of maximise marks across both sections.

considering the order of attack for an exam paper, would you recommend answering the harder questions/texts first?
@ArtofSmartTV
@ArtofSmartTV 5 жыл бұрын
I think you should practice the order at home and work out what you are most comfortable with. Ultimately the risk in doing hardest first, is you spend too long on it and less time on other parts of the paper where you could pick up more marks.

I have all my notes set and ready to go, just remembering them is what my problem is. Btw I will be doing my exam in reverse order and having time section 3: 40 mins, section 2: 30-35min, section 1: 45-50 min. It worked in the trial and I was able to finish the whole exam😊
@ArtofSmartTV
@ArtofSmartTV 5 жыл бұрын
Awesome stuff Samir! Thanks for sharing! Remember however Section 2 and 3 are worth the same amount of marks, so don't spend more time on Section 3 at the expense of excelling in Section 2!
@samirfakoua
@samirfakoua 5 жыл бұрын
ArtofSmartTV well when u think about it, section 2 u can write 2-3 pages and still get full marks while for section 3 they expect a lot more. This is behind by decision. Also section 1 takes the longest to do so the way I got it set up is justified. But everyone sees it differently☺️

ArtofSmartTV paper 1 was difficult because it had confusing questions for each section and section 1 was arranged differently: 3 texts, 2 3 markers, 1 4 marker comparing text 1/2 and a 5 marker for text 3. It was really hard so I’m not sure about this one. Paper 2 was fairly easy and the questions weren’t that difficult.

Hi ArtofSmart, I have some questions about HSC English 1. By writing three paragraphs (two on core and one on related), does it cost you some marks if you don't do four paragraphs (two on core and two on related as there is more of a balance) 2. For the essays for discovery and paper 2, do you need to use sophisticated language to do well or is it better to use simple language to communicate your ideas? btw I do standard
@joembarak
@joembarak 6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Liao it’s best to do two on each...but I found if you are running out of time you can do one of each and then one paragraph where you compare or contrast the two texts. This works well for my module A as it’s about the comparative study of text and context. Also whenever possible use sophisticated language, but don’t use words you don’t know how to use, And don’t over complicate it.

Joe's advice is sound in relation to #1! For #2 simple and clear language is important. Don't stress about using big words. In fact that often reduces the clarity of writing!

what if you dont have enough notes/knowledge of the texts to answer the essay questions open book? is it worth rewatching/rereading the texts or is there not enough time for that?

Hey so i was planning on memorising my entire essay word to word and then on the exam day adapt the question into my essay. Iam still confused whether or not to do that. Secondly for paper 2 we are supposed to know all six wilfred owen poems but in hsc they never ask for all the six of it only 2 of our own choice so is it okay if i just study the two that ive prepared for?
@ArtofSmartTV
@ArtofSmartTV 5 жыл бұрын
I think you don't want to go into the exam, and be adapting it for the 1st time. This is why the Rule of 3 is key - it helps you practice and build the skill of adapting to new questions, so when you do it on the exam day, you can actually answer the question, instead of writing your memorised response and getting marked down because it doesn't answer the question. Yes, ideally you want to know all 6 as they could specify one. If it's not one of the two you've prepared for you will be in a pickle :S

Thanks for the help! I was wondering how you suggest implementing the Rule of Three the day before Paper 2? As it would just be unreasonable to expect myself to do 9 practice essays in only half a day. Should I just do 1 practice essay of each that night, or should I dedicate a day to each of the modules within the next week?
@ArtofSmartTV
@ArtofSmartTV 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, ideally you are actually doing this the 2-3 days before your exams :) Night before, if need be just move to dot points, and reduce the number, so 1 that night.
