Hands down my favorite Artosis interview. it's always boggled my mind how the Starcraft community, which brands its self as a well mannered community, can treat certain people so poorly. I had a 3 year addiction to pro starcraft2, and it all started with Thorin's interview with my favorite player, Puma. Thanks, Thorin!

This Acer guy, is really top notch doing interviews .. what is his name ? I think Artosis probably congratulated him after this very interview ... he engages in the same level of conversation with Artosis (which is pretty fucking good )

I come from the Call of Duty side of eSports, I know I know we're all looked at as a non-eSport, but I really wish we had ambassadors like Artosis who are super knowledgeable, well spoken and just in general a good guy. What a fantastic person to rep your community and game.

What a great interview. Sc2 fans need to watch this, even in 2018, due to understanding balance an interesting pro level perspective of where SC2 came from. I found this extremely refreshing. Love Artotsis! Commentator did great too, obvious passion for this game here.

I agree with the interviewer. One thing I love about Brood War was the "Asymmetrical Balancing", each race you play is in a little way a new game because the play style. The other thing about the turnover, I find that's due to the fact that Starcraft has too big of an emphasize on not fucking up. Like a small mistake can throw your entire game because units die so much faster.

Great interview overall. However, there were quite a few leading questions to the benefit of BW; I feel that many who seem to be looking for comparisons unnecessarily. BW was different, not only in game play, but also in time (it had ~10 years to develop, and the world was really learning what an RTS was) and intention. SC2 is far from perfect, but so was BW - Artosis does a good job of pointing out many of the positives the latter has to offer, and he clearly has hope for the game's future.

each match up and each map variation there is usually there are optimal build orders depending on scouting or their early timing push for protoss for me i find vs zerg i use a heavy zeolots into pheonix then voids/tempest is nice. Vs terran i like getting high templars and protoss i cant go without immortals unno :)
@MageKirby10 жыл бұрын
The only REAL problem I felt in BW balance was one thing about protoss. Zerg and Terran had this thing where they can have one mindset and win. A defensive terran can use that same mentality for both vZ and vP and be very effective. An offensive zerg can use that same mentality for both vT and vP. But Protoss vZ needs to be more defensive and harassing while vT Protoss needs to be more offensive. And due to this, Protoss plays need some element of luck and/or be bipolar. Thats why the most accomplished protoss, Bisu, was the zerg killer. Since PvT is mostly preferred by Protoss, he could get away with his mechanics and the opponents' discomfort. And he bodied zergs. And all the other protoss didn't have such a big dominance as Bisu.

How to make a fun and balanced game: Give everyone a ton of great options in each situation. Allow players to manipulate how many options and what kind of options their opponent has. Tend to favour aggressive options slightly. Tada!
@matrixxART10 жыл бұрын
oh and most importantly, predictable options must tend to be pretty bad.

Odd to see him saying the three-base cap isn't a problem. Coupled with the sheer speed of the economy it means at the most high, abstract level the natural counter to deathball/turtle type play is missing, which forces answers to be made at faction/unit level, or just to ignore the problem. Which then leads into rather awkward-looking games where something feels off but you have a hard time pointing out what exactly.

SC:BW is superior for massive battles because the units dont bunch up as much as they do in SC2. watching 2 massive balls clash together is nowhere near as interesting to watch. the maps also had more points of engagement since static defense in BW is rarely able to fully defend harass. epic storms and reaver shots are an incredible thing to see especially when they whiff or land in a big way. so many other things i prefer about BW but SC2 is still a great game.

3 base cap is a huge huge problem. One that i dont see Blizzard having the balls to fix. They need to remove 1 or 2 patches from expansions. So that 3 cap isnt just the best, Because its pointless to have maps full of expansions when 3 is just the cap. There needs to be more like Broodwar, having 4 having 5 mining bases.

Dude, claiming that someone is cheesy or micro based is ignoring that evolution of a game! How about we realize that a win is as meaningful as any other and just let history speak for itself! At some point you have to realize that nothing is cheesy, there is just an incomplete meta.
