Regarding the differences between races and their buildings showing upgrade/production animations, it seems to fit in line with the three-point balance meta of StarCraft. If you look at any specific point there are usually two races that are opposite and one in the middle. Like workers making buildings, one race a single worker can make multiple buildings simultaneously, another loses a worker per building, and the third is in between requiring one worker to make each building at a time

This was amazing! 3:37 was really close too, i wonder if he would have been able to hold the ling rush if he had brought that hatchery down due to the lack of larva it would have caused. I also wonder if instead of microing back he had suicided the nearby probe and the 2 zealots on the hatch if he really would have been able to get it.

All the design choices in StarCraft seem 99% intentional. It would make sense Zerg doesn't have upgrade/building indicators for balance purposes. Everything is asymmetrically balanced in SC. Zerg is relegated to building on creep spread, all of their tech and production is visible in 1 small radius and their units spawn from eggs which are visible & vulnerable. Terran, quite the opposite, flying buildings and no pylon/creep requirement is pretty good.
