That entire early game pressure, that was a war fought without a single shot fired, and at a pace slow enough for me to understand what was going on. Then the fight over SoulKey's third, that was such a quick sequence of positioning and decision-making that was also incredible to watch.

he held like a boss during crucial times and harassed at the same time. if it wasnt for amazing the 3rd base def this game wouldve looked entirely different. soulkey should trickle in a couple of hydras in the mix, simply to kill vessels - i really like the ultra ling style but vessels feel crazy godlike, which is not so much the case when zergs go hydra lurker ling defiler, it gives a much better zoning potential

Do replays show you how long they are before you watch them? Kinda just occurred to me even if Artosis doesn't watch the replays ahead of time, you can have a strong guess as to who wins based on replay length and the current situation of things going on in the replay. Like at around the 9-minute mark if you know there's 25mins total you know that's not the killing move and you could guess Soul Key saves that hatch. Now that I think about it, what about the ASL VoDs they cast? How would they avoid seeing the video length when they use a video player? Random thought that just hit me, not a big deal

Great game. Looks like counterattack with muta/ling at the beginning have gained zerg an advantage. it messed up the terrans tempo enough (~2 mins) so zerg was on time bringing lurks on a hg

I'm assuming it's from the BCs lack of mobility but I never understand why the Terrans don't attempt to keep the BCs with their bio force and vessels. They'd protect the vessels from scourge and likewise could be defense matrixed if needed. It seems they send 2 or 3 BCs in alone to harass an expo and a couple mutas and a handful of scourge dismantle them easily.

Keep in mind the marines can already protect the vessels from scourge (they have a range of 5 versus the BC's range of 6 so they do about as well as the BC's would anyway). You're right about the mobility. In addition it just ends up being more valuable to tax the zerg's attention by sending the BC's to harass somewhere else. The zerg has to "waste" a lot of gas and larva on scourge to counter them. Also this is the only unit terran has that they can "set and forget". Sending the BC's to harass a drone line costs the terran very little extra apm so they can continue making the real threats with their bio army somewhere else. What you described of the zerg easily swatting a couple of BC's down happened in this game because Soulkey was already winning. He had a huge economy and tons of hatcheries. I've seen plenty of other games that were closer where the BC's were a massive problem for the zerg.

The speed is one thing, but it also stretches out Zerg multitasking which is at a premium in the lategame. A-moving BC's into an expansion and then focusing on pressuring with your SK bio-ball is an easier situation for the Terran as opposed to the Zerg who now has to evacuate / burrow drones, build scourge and maybe muta if they want to be extra efficient like Soulkey in this game, split those scourge on the BC's, while keeping up with the macro hell that is Zerg lategame and also move your screen somewhere completely else to do the required defiler micro and keeping up the ling+ultra attacks to not die to the bio pressure. That said, I can see how BC+Bioball+Vessel could be strong, too, as they really do help in chewing up ultralisks. But it seems "wasteful", since the BC's are just as shit vs. Dark Swarm as your bio, and they might get plagued along with your bio, and the Zerg is already constantly looking to plague your main army anyway. And this strategy is of course complete ass vs. Hydra defiler.

I have a question. Why do Terrans make 2-3 Battle Cruisers then just send them to die? I know that sounds a bit facetious but, I'm asking honestly. It always seems like Battle Cruisers don't do much, cuz they're being rushed instead of building up the numbers. Then, on top of only sending 2-3 BC's, they specifically send them alone with no escort. Is there a reason for this? I'm not pro so, maybe there's something I'm missing. As a non-pro, I just don't get this. Protoss has a ground army supporting their carriers. Why doesn't Terran do the same? BC's are strong, but shouldn't they be used to support the main ground force? But, every time I see BC's, I see 2-3 get sent off alone then die to scourge. Why not build up 6-7 and run them with the main army?

protoss has shields if their units get plagued, terran has to use medic energy on bcs/marines to heal the main force, protoss also has access to psi-storms/archons/reavers and other better spells than irridiate to counter dark swarm. in my opinion he should've teched vult speed and mines for late game, the mines would at least be decent against lings/defilers u could also do harass runbys against drones. bcs/terran mech are generally very slow and die easily if surrounded mainly because of dark swarm/plague (terran has to use siege mode/firebats/mines/irridiate.. a nuke would work but ur ghost would most likely die and it costs 200/200 8 supply plus the 25m 75g plus ghost upgrades. the easy explanation is protoss has better counters and spells to use than terran when dealing with dark swarm and they could even use arbiter/recall to save their carriers if they get caught out in the open.

I have no clue what I'm talking about, but it feels like late game zerg is just better than late game terran. My first instinct is that perhaps it's a balance issue. It kinda looks like battlecruisers suck (perhaps they should auto-target scourge, and perhaps have more range). Or maybe terran race needs a 4th level of upgrades. Or perhaps ultras or plague are just a bit too much. The reason I say all of this is I don't think I've seen any game where it goes super late game and terran is behind and pulls ahead in the end. There are some where terran is ahead early and kills zerg just as he goes ultra. But it feels like I haven't seen any games where zerg gets every upgrade and loses to a terran. I also feel slightly the same way in TvP when it's carriers.

They killed 3 mutas, 17 scourge, and 6 drones. BC cost - 1200 min, 900 gas zerg cost - 812 min, 937 gas So, it's a lot better than it seemed.

Epic game, but it's frustrating to watch Macro Terrans throw away 1200/900 of BCs on a few drones while being taken out by 250/750 of scourge. Why does nobody send them with the army where the marines protect them from scourge and their high dmg dps is best for ultras, and where their yams would be best used anyways? 🤔 Restoration would also save a ton of HP being lost on BCs/SVs from Plague. Also, JyJ has been fairly consistent in sending 1hp SVs back to base for repairs but he didn't do it in this game at all. Must be tough managing SK Terran, but the next level of it is a Repair Crew near a bunker to keep Vessels and BCs at max hp during the push. This also serves as a fallback/reinforcement rally point to defend counter attacks from. Would be great to use BCs used more as an additional piece of late game TvZ, but they're never around long enough for them to do anything.

Sometimes they do, when they have enough to leave with the army, they sent several back home to be repaired. Or if they stay in defense at home. Otherwise I'd say it's just lack of extra APM to take care of them closer to the frontline, while microing your army and the other vessels and macro.

@@Winnetou17 it's not lack of APM, the reason they don't repair vessels is because TvZ late game is all about having vessels out constantly on the zerg's face to prevent any defiler to cross the map to your expansions or entrance, and since vessels are a slow unit they simply cannot afford going back or they instantly lose the game, so they find it much more value to stay low hp on the offensive to pressure the zerg's expansion (or entrance) and force him to use his defilers to defend

@@Winnetou17 That would not be a smart move either because 1) vessels are not used for their spells only they're also detectors, so the sole presence of that one extra vessel on the field can be important 2) the time it takes to go back home + the time it takes to get it repaired + using scvs to repair instead of mining in a mineral heavy matchup + the time it takes to go back on the field is simply not worth it

@@taoufikkhlifi8154 I appreciate providing arguments. Here's my reponse: 1) I consideer this a moot point. We were already in the context of sending one/some of the scivessels back when you have multiple of them. Sending the only one is obviously foolish. Same for sending all of them, but here having all of them get to 0-10 energy at the same time is also quite unlikely 2) I consider this to be a moot point too, from a) the simple economics of repair itself. If the economy is limited, then you'd actually want to repair, instead of having to build a new one. Repair costs 35% or so of the full price (when going from 1 to full hp). b) If you're mineral strained, you can use an scv that was mining gas. Especially if it one which is mining from a depleted vespene geyser. c) Lastly on the time it takes to travel + repair, that's the idea of sending it when it's down to almost 0 energy - most if not all of that time it wouldn't have any anything useful anyway. Yeah, it might take a bit longer, like it might join back to the army when it's at 110 energy, instead of 75, and there can be cases when having that vessel there exactly when it hit 75 energy can turn the battle in your favour. It's a tradeoff. In that same scenario the vessel might've died before it got to cast any other spell and repairing would be a clear net benefit. So like I said, a tradeoff.

Dark swarm is, conceptually, really cool, but good god everything about the defiler just pisses me off. Plague always feels like total bull. Dark swarm feels like it should be a damage reduction or an accuracy decrease instead of an invulnerability spell. Consume just makes defilers able to spam spells. God.
