Artspira App by Brother - A Beginners Opinion

Hi Carole! Didn't expect any videos from you this week, due to your holiday time. Although I'm not an embroider (yet?), this was a very interesting video in many ways for someone not remotely experienced in that realm of sewing. First, getting a glimpse of the machine's e-functionality, and second, for the knowledge that not all embroidery thread colors are alike. I do some cross stitch and realized at some point that some off-brand floss color numbers do not correspond with DMC colors even when they say they do. And sometimes there is enough difference in the floss color that you wouldn't want to use both on the same project. Whether or not I ever get an embroidery machine remains to be seen, but was happy to learn about the Artspira App and how it works. I always like learning new things with respects to sewing. Hi Dori! Thanks so much for watching and I really appreciate that as I know you don't embroider. I know what you mean about floss though when I used to do a lot of cross stitching. You have no idea how sad I was when I did a Pokemon design for my Grandson a year ago from an Etsy design, as I didn't really know the character and had to choose my own colours as best I could and he didn't like it as it wasn't what he knew 🤣. Bless him, he tried to be nice but he was disappointed. I vowed then to only use proper designs where Brother threads were listed! Finding the Licensed designs on Artspira was a game changer for me and man, does it save time. Hope you are well, last day of our holiday today 🥲 but I'm desperate to get sewing again! I think all your embroidery makes have been amazing. You have really gotten full use out of that machine, and surely will for years to come! Have you embroidered Bambi yet? Do you know I don't know why I haven't done a Bambi and yes that would be perfect for Chloë!! I need to get my thinking cap on for Christmas. We saw so many 'proper' Bambis in Virginia it was wonderful. We don't get that type of deer locally to us. I have got use out of that machine for sure and it's a really good sewing machine whilst my Juki is being worked on 😂. You are so kind as to watch this as I know it wouldn't have been relevant to you. Love you loads 💕 xxxx

Thanks so much for watching. Someone else has mentioned that there is a free trial but I think you can access the free stuff without signing up at all. I did for a year and a half and the website still implies this. I didn't want you to sign up if you didn't need to! Have fun 🧵😊

Hi Carole, thanks for doing this very helpful overview of the Artspira App. I've never used it. It was advertised to me when I got my embroidery machine but I have not tried it. You've motivated me to download it and give it a try. Embroidery is so much fun. I have a short segment on making FSL earrings in my Friday video. I think you would enjoy that. Etsy is hit or miss, I agree. Thanks for sharing! 🥰♥

Thanks Grace for watching even though you are a seasoned pro at embroidery! I'm sure you have a lot of designs already on your super duper machine but Artspira is fun to play with especially when you can transform photos into designs and draw your own. It's a great addition to my basic machine. Let me know how you get on with it. We are still away on holiday but I'll try and watch your video on earrings, I love how you do that. @@socarole66 Hi Carole, I did download the app but it's asking me for a Free trial or Subscription. Is there a way to use the app without a subscription? @ I used it for over a year without subscribing so I don't understand that at all. They have a lot of free content on there and it's all available, not subjected to a free trial , I've just checked the website. Maybe you need to bypass that option like you do on other apps. Xx

Nice video Carole. I bought my first embroidery machine in the 90’s that used cartridges. It was fun to use but then I decided to have a small business and bought a 15 needle Tajima industrial machine.I still don’t know how I taught myself to use it as there wasn’t KZbin in the early 2000s. I use Embrillance software with it. They have a free and a paid version that works with any machine. You should definitely get a bigger hoop. The in the hoop designs are so much fun and I think you would use it a lot. Grace from Sew Lovely with grace has done some videos showing how it works. You can make so much with them.

Hi Kathy... Wow a 15 needle machine! I can't imagine how complicated that must be but the benefit is I'm sure you aren't changing colours every minute or two! I know Grace very well and have met her a couple of times luckily. She is indeed an expert on embroidery and is always on at me to get a better machine 😂. She does some fantastic in the hoop projects I'm always jealous of. I have done one which was a coaster and I was excited about that! One day I will upgrade I'm sure. Carole, I found this very interesting. I sew with vintage machines that do everything I need for sewing (and I kind of like tinkering with them, too.) However, if I bought a modern machine, it would be an embroidery machine. I don’t know that I would use it enough to make it worth the purchase, but I really find the app interesting and agree that the time-saving is important. Hi Deborah, how wonderful that you use Vintage machines, I'm told that no newer machines can match the stitch quality of the old. I have a Babylock and one lady above said they don't work with Babylock. I've got a 4 inch hoop + don't embroidery much because it seemed hard to find nice designs. One day I'll start again. Thanks for your informative video.

Hi there. No sorry this is a Brother App so will only work for Brother machines. Perhaps Babylock do something similar? The 4” hoop does a lot but we are restricted to small designs or fiddling about to join stuff up aren’t we. Hope you can find some nice designs, someone has mentioned the Embroidery Library, maybe have a look at their free stuff. Thanks for watching anyway 🧵😊

Ok, Carole, I might have to dust off my embroidery attachment and give this app a try. My hoop is the same size as yours and in the past I've just been disappointed in what that limits me to. I don't have a Disney machine, but I'm assuming Artspira can be used without. Thank you for giving me a little push! **p.s. I just looked it up. Sadly, this app does not work with Baby Lock machines.

Hi Carole, great video! That looks like an awesome app! I don’t know if it will work on my little embroidery machine, I’ll have to check it out. When I buy designs, I usually get them from The Embroidery Library. They have millions of designs and hundreds of free ones. I have so many already, I rarely buy anymore. Thanks Sue, I am so glad you have a good reliable supply for your designs. I have learnt over the past year how important that is and what a difference it makes. That’s why I’m so glad I discovered about the App and wanted to ‘spread the word ‘ for anyone in the dark like me. It is the ease of colours for me and the designs being geared for the thread I use especially with the Disney designs. The kids know when the colours aren’t quite right believe me 🤣. Thank you so much, I bought my machine second hand (almost new) and I was so excited about it, I’d searched for ages to find one. It’s like yours without the sewing machine function, just embroidery. So anyway I still haven’t used it. I’ve downloaded the app and set the machine up onto my WiFi, even purchased some Brother design discs… I’d love just to go to a class but there aren’t any near me. I’m going to watch a few videos and see if I can summon up the courage 🤣. Christmas is coming up and I have three Grand-babies I have bought designs for 😱🫣. Maybe a Christmas Stocking would be a good start… let me know if you have or want to make one and maybe we could compare 😂 xx

Hi Claire. Oh so many people say to me they haven’t used their machines as they are worried about it. Honestly if you could see the mess I made with my first ones, how many times I had to complete take the machine apart and get out the thread nests 🤣. I just wanted to get stuck In though without knowledge of the right threads and Stabiliser! Please watch KZbin videos on embroidery though, not just mine hint hint 🤣😉 and be brave! Practice on scraps and just always keep your eye on the machine, I learnt early on not to just walk away. Christmas stockings sound perfect and you can always do what I did in the beginning is put the design onto fabric and make patches and then sew on. That saves a lot of ruined garments!! Keep me updated. 🧵😊

Hi I have a brother innovis 4000D it has four hoops the smallest being the one you have I also have a border hoop I never use it I have many extras with the machine also sets of additional designs on cards that drop in the side of machine like a usb stick I also have a large number of threads brother gutter man and Madeira it’s such a waste just sitting there but I have been battling cancer had a double mastectomy and can’t see myself using it any time soon as I am now 79 o don’t know what is the solution I am happy to see you getting to grips with your machine

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that you have been battling Cancer. I just can't imagine how that must be for you. I'm not surprised you don't feel up to sewing but I am extremely envious of all your hoops and machine! It sounds like you have a sufficient method of adding the designs so no need for Artspira. Hello there. I am not quite sure what you mean in your question. The Artspira app can be found in the App Store with Apple and on Google Play? Store. There is a Brother KZbin video on how to connect Artspira. I will put that link at the bottom of my description box. There may have been a QR code with my machine but I can't remember sorry. Hope that helps.

@ my problem is when I try to sign up for artspiria with my google account it asks me for “artspiria id” and I don’t know what it is or where I can find it, so I can’t sign up 😞

Personally, I avoid buying embroidery designs on Etsy. I find the quality of the designs is often poor. I have been a machine embroidered for over 20 years and have a Brother XV, but have never used ArtSpira. I found this video interesting, as I am awaiting delivery of a new machine, the Brother Aveneer. I will be using ArtSpira for design transfer etc. Thank you.

Good morning Carole. I’ve had an embroidery machine for 24 years. On my second and I own lots of designs. I find the digitizing varies a lot between designers. There are ones that just go together like a dream and others where you tear your hair out thinking you’ve made a mistake but it’s not you.🪡🪡🙃 I don’t have your color issue as I very seldom need to match the color exactly. But I have used thread charts in the past. It’s great that you’re enjoying this new experience. 🧵🧵Thanks for the video. Dotschi

Hi there! You must be such an expert after 24 years and I imagine you've used a whole range of designs. As you say, there are some that work and some that don't. Quite often it's the black outlining that fails right at the end! With things like the Disney characters the colours have to look right or the boys know 😂.
