@@socarole66 Yes, you make me smile because you're so excited and happy about your makes. I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well. Right now it's very cold here in the United States in some areas. I am in Tennessee so of course we went from 83° yesterday Fahrenheit to 40° today as the high. But you inspire me and I just love that you love your grandchildren. I have grandchildren as well.

Did you notice that broad smile on Chris' face when he had that ACDC shirt on?? Great sewing job for him, Carole! But what wonderful sews this week, Carole. The floral dress -- oh my gosh!! Beautiful! And I really like the color-blocked top you made. YES! The floral trim around the sleeves absolutely makes it pop! You are so artistic! Your grandson is going to be a HIT as a tree with a snake wrapped around him. How clever! And now you have just added a few more tops to your wardrobe with your re-do's. Good on you! It looked a little chilly on the coast there but what a beautiful place. I'm sure you all enjoyed it no matter what. Have a great week-end!

Hi Deb! He absolutely loves that shirt (mostly the fabric) and is going to wear it when he does a gig tomorrow. Thanks for all your lovely comments on the dress and top. Me artistic?!?! 😂Thanks anyway for the compliment. I am currently working on the snake outfit at the moment, its a real brain exercise trying to plan it but hopefully he will like what I come up with. We did talk about the design together. The weather in Devon was actually quite mild for Feb but still only about 10C on the Saturday so yes, for a beach visit it was chilly but oh so enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks, I hope the week has been good for you 😊💗

Hi Carole!! Well, I didn't get a video update done today on my sewing but I have been very busy. I got quite a lot done on my dress in class on Thursday. Even the instructor was rather surprised at how much I did. It's coming right along. And then today, I was in a Palmer-Pleitsch fitting class all day. It was very intense but I learned a lot. Hard to believe that you will be visiting Florida again in just a few weeks. OH! OH! OH! I WILL be coming to Lakeland on Friday. My sister-in-law is coming along with me, too. YEAH!!! See you in Lakeland!

Wish I was as creative as you. Send back the one pin cushion! Defective!!! Great video, love all of your makes! I agree with another commenter that turning the garment inside out for coverstitching is so much easier, especially on sleeves and small spaces. Sometimes, like with baby garments, you might have to coverstitch prior to sewing the sleeve seams together because they are so tiny. When lifting the presser foot in the middle of a line of coverstitching, if your needles happen to be in the up position, turn your fly wheel towards you to make sure your needles are in the down position to prevent the fabric from shifting, just as you would on your sewing machine. When you want to cut thread, once you lift the presser foot, slide your slim tool UNDER the presser foot between the presser foot and fabric to catch the threads and swipe them to the left, that way you are pulling the thread mostly against the left side of the presser foot and not putting as much stress on the needles. I use a thin metal knitting needle meant for knitting socks, or a metal nail file to slide under mine. Lastly, once you clip the threads and go to pull your fabric free, yank more back and left to help pull the top threads to the bottom, then clip that bottom thread. Just a few things I have learned along the way, that might be useful in your coverstitching journey 😊

First of all thank you so much for watching and secondly thank you so much for all that good information on how to finish off etc and sew small seams. Your blue dress is beautiful. Fits you so well and the fabric is lovely. I have a coverstitch machine and I always use adhesive hem tape to secure the hem before sewing. This seems to stabilise the hem (I do use a stretch tape for knits so there is still stretch) and makes it easy to feel the ridge underneath as well. Also when I start, I make sure the fabric front and behind the needles is in a straight line so this helps with lining up the start and finish as well. Well done!
@socarole66
@socarole66 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Diane, I am very happy with the dress. Let's hope I get lots of occasions to wear it this year! I also use stabilising stretch tape on things before I sew but not on something as small as that cuff, way too fiddly! I am still learning on the cover stitch as I have only had it a few months but I am definitely better with it than I used to be 🤣. The one thing I do wish is that I went for the other version with the wider arm, I use it far more than I thought and not just for hems, it is a hard job trying to get large volumes of fabric through the little gap. You live and learn eh? Have a lovely week 😊

FYI, the pincushion is not defective. It’s deliberately made that way so that the heads of the pins automatically go to the outside so you can easily pick them up individually. Well what can I say all the makes for hubby were stunning and you can see he is pleased 😊 everything else were amazing, alterations go to my sewing room and sit for ages before getting done why I don’t know 🤨 but yours brilliant, the outfit for grandson is outstanding love it 🥰 but feel sorry for mums who are to busy or don’t sew the children will probably have plaque around their neck with the word princess etc 🤔 the magnet pin tray I will buy it off you as I always prick myself as I have arthritic hands and can’t pick one up at a time where if they were on the edge it would be so much easier 😊 ( if it’s possible)

Hi Sandra, thank you so much for all the lovely comments re my garments. Why don't we like alterations?! They very often only take a little while to do but you are right, they just sit there gathering dust 😂. It did make me laugh re the princess plaque comment but you are completely right, so many parents are just so busy these days and they don't need this extra pressure! Re the pincushion, where do you live? If you email me your address I would be happy to send it to you no worries about buying it from me. v66cab@gmail.com. Hope you have a lovely weekend 🌸

1. pincushion - have you tried turning it over to use? 2. New Look 6216 - Love what you did with the two fabrics to colour block. I've made that top in a single fabric and even though I stay stitched the neckline, it still wanders about. I wondered whether I should make the neckline a more rounded, narrower shape. I've also made the long sleeved version and absolutely love it. 3. The dress with the border fabric is absolutely sensational. Love your work. Good luck with the snake costume. The most difficult I made was a gumnut baby costume (you may want to google that - very Australian) using crepe paper made into strings. Never again.

Hi Corinne, thanks for commenting. I did try and turn it over like you said....no luck. I have tried to prise it apart...no luck but now someone has asked if they can have it so I am happy to give it away. That is interesting about the neckline on the 6216, it used to do that for me in the past so i am hoping this shoulder adjustment will work for me. I have gone to make the long sleeve version before then realised how much fabric it would take as all one piece! You are right, I had to google the Gumnut babies and wow, how cute are they? They obviously didn't make it over to our shores! That must have been really difficult, my snake costume is a breeze compared to that! Thanks for watching and hope you have a good weekend 🌸

Your New Look top and dress are lovely Carole. After a lengthy period really liking that dress pattern I finally bought it after your video last week. Can’t wait to make it up in my fabric but after seeing your beautiful version I will be looking out for a border print. I’m glad you mentioned the sleeves, I wasn’t sure whether to put them in or not, now I know not to bother. Another KZbinr said that the armscye was set too low for the sleeveless version, but yours looked just right. I enjoy watching your videos. I hear you saying you use the same patterns all the time as if that’s a bad thing. I think it’s good that you do, as you get value from your purchase, and I’m hoping I use this New Look dress pattern regularly. Fabulous idea for your grandson’s Book Day.

Hi Maggie. Thanks for your comment. After reading what you said about the armscye I just tried it on again to really check. Ok, it's slightly lower maybe than it should be but nothing to worry about and no bra shows which is the main thing for me! Maybe they hadn't have done the proper facing for it and just put a binding on? All body types are different though so maybe check pattern review.com to see what other people have said. It would be easily fixed if that was the issue anyway. Let me know how you get on! Thanks for saying that about reusing patterns, I've never thought of the aspect that I'm getting value for money but you are right. I really appreciate you chatting with me and I hope you have a lovely weekend 😊

Wow! I love all your husband's makes ESPECIALLY the AC/DC top! My husband is a musician too. He plays the keyboard. I would like to make that top for him. I have to find some musical fabric. Both your New Look dress and top look SENSATIONAL!!! We have so much in common in patterns and fabric taste. I'm currently working on New Look 6095 now. I have it cut out on my cutting table. Thanks for the warning on the neckline. I too prefer an invisible zip. Yours came out flawless. I too have a Baby Lock Coverstitch machine. I have not been too successful with it. My stitches don't seem to come out. I need to practice. I also have an Enlighten serger like you!! I absolutely love it. I'm sure the snake outfit is going to be the BEST in his class! You are so creative. Also, I think you should take the plastic pin cushion apart and move the magnets, if possible. Thank you for the shoutout Carole. That was so nice of you! We are definitely sewing twins separated by a big ocean! Thanks so much for all your kind comments, that makes me happy as you are such a good sewist. Really looking forward to seeing your 6095. I'm definitely going to use that pattern in future as it worked out so well and I'm just about to make the bag but I only have enough embroidered bit to put panels in. The coverstitch definitely takes a bit of getting used to. In the beginning I used to thread it with the foot down and that messed up the tension, something so simple! It is slightly over sensitive though to threading, plus I use cheap thread which probably doesn't help. I wouldn't be without it now though. My heart sunk when you said you were going to be at the expo on Thursday as we are all meeting at 12 on the Friday, please say you are going for 2 days? You are right about the magnet, it didn't cost much so I will try and prise it apart. Good luck with the dress 👗. 😘x

apologies if you already know this but on small circumferences like sleeves it's easier to hem if you turn them inside out first. you are still stitching on the right side but you are less at risk of accidentally catching the bulk of the sleeve under the needles. (hard to explain in words but if you try it you'll understand). this trick works on coverstitch, sergers, and regular sewing machines if you don't have a free arm. your alterations have turned out great!

Hi Kimberly, I have a Babylock Enlighten and a Babylock Cover stitch machine. The serger I have had for a couple of years replacing a Janome I had for about 5 years. I absolutely LOVE the babylock but it was a big investment. I have the air threading system but the main thing for me is that you don't have to alter the tension between the different types of fabric. You can sew something like chiffon then knits or fleece without altering anything! That was a game changer for me. The stitches are just so much better than my old Janome. In summary, yes I like it!
