Mistake I made, the sum is often more than the parts. Sold a dremora style book (all in 1 item) I saw tcc where it was listed at 1 mil but thought “I could buy each of the parts for around 100k total, the price must be wrong”. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
@Arttea

Oooof haha that's a good one (well, bad that that happened to you, but a good point to bring up lmao)! Where you were coming from with your reasoning makes total and complete sense - if all of the motifs cost a total of 100k, surely the book (which is the equivalent of all of the motifs) would go for around that much too right? Wrong But yeah, the rarity of the book, and likewise, its value as a collectible would allow for it to sell for SIGNIFICANTLY more. Ty for sharing that

Great video! I've seen a few people mention event items and things to that effect not selling for years (and the like) One of the keys that I found is to join a guild in a low level area like stone falls and you can liquidate them there. I'm sure that you've mentioned this before but it's key to know your audience, and/or utilize decent starter zone traders for items the new players may not have yet. The same can be said with low level materials in small quantities, that's just my two cents

I just joined a trading guild because I have so many charity writs, I noticed that the writs lowest price was 200g so I put the first one at 200g but then I thought well if I sell them for 199g people will buy mine first. And it worked I sold all 30 writs that first day. Also I noticed if you price a object with the last two digits as 99 instead of 00 (ie 499 v 500) you actually get a higher cut by 1g each time.
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Oh yeah, pricing wares at a "99" price instead of a "00" is totally worth it! Just like in real life eh? Tricks the buyer into believing that the item that they are buying is notably cheaper than it really is

Another tip I learned: I always try to keep my listings as close to 30 as possible. Not too high to where I have a bunch waiting in my inventory and not too low where I know I'm losing potential profits. And like Arttea said, an expiration is horrible as it takes up space with no gain. The goal of this is to maximize my gold per hour. This depends on how many traders you have access to and how good your farming is.

My biggest thing for sure is listing items and then just letting them sit. Generally it works out fine because I mainly only sell crafting mats across 3 guilds, but some items such as Kuta or Rosin take a long time to sell, and some stacks never sell because I never adjust the price lol. Tends to only happen with those 2 when it comes to mats for me though, so I'm not too bothered by it.

Great trading lecture! I feel like I should have been taking notes XD I'm guilty of all of those mistakes in one way or another. I'm shockingly bad at relisting items once the demand drops (don't look at the price I have my charity writs up for at the moment - omg, it will make your eye twitch) and I've never been a big meta chaser or had a much understanding of sets. 5 piece bonuses that sound boring to me are often some of the highest sellers, and so it takes me too long to clue on. Especially for PVP. Been making bank moving some gold jewels from Cyro rewards, though. :)
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
Ayyyy yeah those Cyrodiil rewards are no joke man - I don't think people realize how much of a gold mine pvp is in this game! (Also same dude I cringed at myself when I saw that I still had some writs up for insane prices long after their hype died down oop-)

Event items like style pages and motifs become worthless pretty fast, i normally hold onto them for months in hopes to selling them later but i have had some for years and the prices never go up, so some style pages/motifs i just end up giving away or destroying because there are so many listed even well after events. At a time i feel eso decreased the event style page/motif drop rate and then increased it so now the market is totally saturated by them. I know i had to buy event style pages a couple years ago cause i never got them to drop. My inventory/bank are full of these types of items that i can't sell cause nobody is buying them even if i lower the price quite a bit.
@Valeryu_Minka
@Valeryu_Minka 2 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue. I have an entire storage character just filled with old event pages that never seem to increase in value/decrease market flood. I swear that the drop rates were hugely increased. Even with the event now, I've not been farming the boxes - just doing the quest for the tickets and one or two extra on the one character while waiting for queues to load - and I have all but two pages, and stacks of belts and helmets. On one hand it is nice to be able to get all the stuff without using tickets (and maybe just buying one or two from a trader if need be) but it does kill a part of the market.
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yeah, the style page market is a tricky one - many of them are definitely hit or miss. If you have a keen eye for eso fashion though, that may help you out! Typically, style pages that are quite intricate tend to have their prices bounce back after events faster than those that are not. I also find that style pages related to pvp events are great investments. Same with the maelstrom style pages from the Orsinium event, and the Opal weapon style pages. The style pages that drop from events that happen yearly/seasonal events typically aren't great ones to invest in.
@pixiendixie4211
@pixiendixie4211 2 жыл бұрын
This isn't your problem, this is eso's problem. Every event the same motifs over and over again until the market is saturated, and the motifs become unsellable. Everytime they come up with new motifs they want to sell them to you through the crown store instead of saving them for an event and letting you earn them.
@rynnoak2033

One thing I've made the mistake of is selling items that were really valuable at a low price because I had them in over abundance and didn't realize how valuable they were. I mean, damn. I get a ton of writ vouchers from dailies, do them en masse, then buy a bunch of patterns from Faustina to try for the last couple ones I still needed, only to end up with a massive amount of patterns that aren't moving fast. XD Also, I save all my motifs, and have a personal bank, some storage boxes, and most of my account bank's slots full of these

Biggest mistake I made was before I was more of a veteran at trading. Back when I first started the game (purchased and played on day 1 on console) I started selling stuff when I hit Vet Ranks, and ummm... I'd sell for whatever the price was when I clicked it, because I thought that meant recommended value on guild traders... so yeah, someone used to stack up real hard off of my blunder lol. 😂😅

One thing that annoys me with some of these content creators is when they recommend grinding and listing an item dropping from a current or upcoming event and claiming you can make a quite a bit of gold from it. One guy was claiming that the Oaken Order style was going to go for quite a bit of gold in the market but after a week after the event I was able to buy the rest of the style pages for cheap. People don’t critically think these days or just don’t have plain common sense. 🤦‍♂️
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yeah, there are definitely a lot of nuances when it comes to selling some of those event-related items (like style pages). That creator wasn't wrong in mentioning that the Oaken Order style pages could well for quite a bit, but it's integral to also mention that their prices would very likely decrease in value substantially over the coming days. It would be best to then sell those style pages on the first day, and then repurchase them around the end of the event if you were interested in learning the style yourself. Grinding for them likely wasn't super profitable considering the fact that they dropped on a 20h cooldown (IIRC) so you can't really grind them anyways, and then their prices dropped so much that you may as well have consulted another gold strategy; heck, like farming mats! A lot of critical thinking is definitely required when making trading guides; it's a bummer that that's not always there, and I worry about how that could misinform viewers! 😩

Question from someone new to the game. Wouldn't the blacklisting tip be irrelevant for people using TTC? TTC pulls its sales data from everyone running TTC and every public guild trader they look at. So having one or two guilds selling valuable items for dogshit prices wouldn't affect the recommended pricing. I understand it for something like MM, but even MM lets you use TTC pricing data if you so choose
@Arttea

If you use addons that pull from exclusively your trading guilds, then be sure to blacklist the guilds with questionable listing practices. If not, then you won't have to worry about this.

i've always been terrible at flipping things, ever since runescape. i'd like to be at least ok at it, but i know that won't happen. and even some of the "guaranteed" ways to make money make me nervous. because if i end up buying/making something there's the chance it just never sells and knowing my luck that's what's going to happen. so i usually just grind everything myself, but usually just get bored of the game and never actually get all the best gear i need.

So this is a gold loss i've made so clearly a mistake but no idea how it would be fixed. I mostly make my gold by buying luxury vendor items, waiting 6 months then selling them. That usually works great and they all make a solid profit but some items... I can wait the whole year and they consistently sell for less than they were bought from the vendor for in the guild stores. All this to say i have stuff stacked on characters that will be there until i die because i am a stubborn SOB who won't sell for no profit.
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a super good flipping strategy! But yeah I definitely relate - for some reason, people sometimes list luxury furnishings for less than they were worth from the vendor!! Maybe to clear some space in their inventory? Sucks for those of us that try to resell the furnishings for profit though 😭

Not a mistake, just a tip. Use human pattern recognition to your advantage. If you have something that sells for 70k, list for 69,420. People have higher chance to see it. And ALWAYS list something for at least 1 gold less then a flat number. Stores IRL sell stuff for 3.99 for a reason, you tend to think its cheaper then it really is.

Hey, would be nice to see a video about high value items, how to get them etc. And also what type of items are good to flip, is it motifs is it armor, is it something else? At the moment I'm mostly selling tri-stat defense glyphs and food buff items to make money, getting around 2 million a week. I'd love to know if there's other more efficient ways of making money.
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty solid amount of gold every week! But yeah, the "hot" items to flip tend to change pretty frequently. It could be everything that you mentioned - motifs, armor, etc. It depends more the state of the game and the changes that are being implemented, rather than the kind of item per see, seeing as all kinds of items can have their time in the limelight as a super great item to flip. I try to point out a few of these flipping opportunities in my quarterly gold guides though! I'll try to clearly mention more flipping opportunities in those guides going forward!

I've played ESO pretty much solo for about 5 years. Don't have any clue about the market, what's valuable, what's not, and joining some trading guild is super daunting because so many have all kinds of requirements I don't think I could ever meet. I figure almost all stuff that I get is junk and just salvage most of it. I save some purples and a few blues, but greens and whites go to the merch or the salvage bench.

Getting into trading certainly takes a bit of a commitment - I suppose in the same way pve and pve does. Not trying to change your mind or anything, but just thought that I'd let you know that there are a fair amount of trading guilds out there that do not have dues or requirements if you are ever keen on dipping your toes into trading in ESO! That way you don't have to worry about any of the pressures that requirements and dues can impose on your playtime while you are still figuring stuff out!

@@Arttea Yeah, I have occasionally seen a few. Most of them seem to still have at least some login or participation requirements that I can't guarantee, due to my work schedule. Part of it is also I don't know what I'd spend money on. I like crafting my own things if I can, or earning my own equipment/recipe drops. I don't usually "buy" my way through the content, unless it's the only way to get something, but I don't even know what I'd want or need beyond what I have already. XD Still, I appreciate the suggestion! :)

I have been trying to move furniture recently, more specifically Luxury Vender furniture. Do you have any tips on pricing for that kind of item? I take it there are not a lot of them before it shows up but if an item does not exist how does one know what a fair price would be?
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
I typically find that luxury furnishing takes about 6 months or so before their prices on the market are decent enough to consider listing them for profit. Luxury furnishings that provide some kind of lighting are usually hot items, so the prices of those (along with the Alinior furnishings) tend to increase pretty considerably - I'm talking like 2 or 3 times their original value. If you are searching up furnishings and finding that there are 0 listings, then I'd consult trading addons, and/or consider throwing those items up for a LOT. Housing enthusiasts in this game spare no expenses - I've found that they will pay a pretty penny for rare/uncommon furnishings. Exactly how much gold would really depend on the item, but for reference - I've found that some plants that emanate light can sell for ~75k (save for those wedding flowers - the prices of those remain fairly low), with bigger lighting fixtures being worth hundreds of thousands. But yeah, I think it's fair to aim for twice the price that you originally bought the items for.

It is pretty hard to decide (for me at least), how to determine a newly presented motif's price (in the newest DLC for example), without undercutting, but selling it with reasonable profit. If I go too low at the start, I have the feeling, that I am the person, who causes the quick price fall, but if I keep a higher price, the motif simply does not sell at all. Any advice on determining the starting price in the first few days and on in which rate should I decrease the price after a few days? There is surely a rule of thumb to follow, or a simple formula to use. Or should be. 😅 It does not help, that TTC follows prices with the speed of an old Internet Explorer.
@Arttea
@Arttea 2 жыл бұрын
Good question - what I like to do is check in with the trading guilds that are located in the best spots. For my server, that would be places like Mournhold, Vivec City, and the pledge cities. Those trading guilds typically have players that get those new motifs on the first day of their release, so I like to see what they are listing those motifs for (seeing as the TTC data does take a hot minute to appear on the website lmao). I'll usually then list my equivalent wares for the average kinds of prices that I'd see (keeping in mind things like the fact that chests typically sell for more than say, the weapons). You definitely would want to monitor these same traders over the next few days to see if you might need to readjust your listing prices (like if the listing prices drop sharply for example - sometimes this is the case, sometimes not)!

The question is: big future revenues or fast little cash flow. To me is the second option, i hate keep an item LISTED FOREVER. If some stuff do not get sell, i replaced by other stuff more sellable. I made my small fortune in that way, i have almost all game house, full fancy forniture included and i really enjoy the game. Undercut prices is the rule in my main guild, inventory rotation, fast cash flow and farming for new stuff. Really we don't care about "market prices" we care about our purse, keep it full and with new deposit.

Plus I mostly deal in motif and furnishing plans and selling those event style pages for absurd money before they crash a week later. Your videos should be the most watched, they're the most intelligent ones on the tube... and funny. Ironically enough, even though I specialize in making these kinds of gold guides for ESO, I actually do not prefer to spend too much time dealing with trading stuff, as I'd rather pvp. As a result, I typically don't mind if my items sit for a couple of days. The traders that are far superior than I am *do* tend to go for the mild-undercutting strat to move stuff super fast! Don't have a problem with those gamers. The gamers that frequently undercut by like 80% though... Haha thanks! Just today someone asked me why people told him that prime junk sold for X amount but he wasnt getting that price. Well, that's informative and we understand these mistakes, but we cannot fully relate to them. You see, in Camonna Tong we slave trafficking, drug smuggling and extortion. We know our "client base" and they know the price of our products and services. If someone thinks he's a smartass we deal with him and his family quick and easy, but if this smartass has a high connection and influence in one of the high houses that can bring an "unpleasant attention" to us or house Hlaalu, we don't act openly but hire dark brotherhood and question is closed.
