Its the same keybed as the matrixbrute, but that doesn’t mean its good. Does the matrix brute have some stellar reputation of having a great keybed? Not that I know of.

@@paulgibson3259 I've heard that as well. Why is it that no one seems to remember how to make a great key bed anymore? Any item we call a "keyboard" should have an excellent key bed. It should be a given. All other functions are secondary.

I agree. All the emphasis is on the controller functions and not the playability. I bought a roland fp 30 piano, which has a great keybed, but for sequencing, a lighter feel would be nice. I think its all about price point and how much people are willing to spend on a controller. Most of the keybeds in controllers seem to be geared for players that just press keys down for sounds.

I received the MK2 and i will say the keybed is not bad. It feels solid, not too springy, not too noisey like the cheaper controllers. Would i use this to learn piano on, no. Does it do the job for inputing midi info for recording with a playable feel? Yes. Its quick enough for recording drums, and its solid enough to play piano. I hope that helps the keybed curious people out there.

It works great in stand alone with the included Analogue Lab 3 software and in Studio One 4 pro, It's cool not having leave the keys to hit transport controls and other mapped out macros in Studio One it works flawlessly so far, it's a great addition to my studio and a fine piece of gear, highly recommend.

Something I forgot to say in the video that is really important is that the performance pads can be hit really hard without any other than the one you actually hit triggering. I hit mine so hard I was afraid that it would break but only the one I hit was triggered and it didn't break!

Hi, now that it has been a year more - I am looking for a beginner MIDI piano that will be portable and allowed in economy class hand carry airlines specifically from saudi or canada to philippines, my country. I want something to learn with as a beginner and will last a lifetime - same with roland fp30x but I want it to be way lighter - either synth or real weighted piano. Pls help ❤ I am looking forward to buying this Arturia mkii black 61 keys color to be shipped to saudi arabia khobar. I just bought roland fp30x from a music store yesterday - but i will return it back because good review videos I watched for asturia mkii ❤️ I never played piano but I am really willing to learn. 1.) One also concern is - if you take this piano to your gigs - what is the most portable piano stand for the arturia mkii 61 keys - that can be modified to carry apple laptop too? If not please recommend the best/sturdy portable keyboard stand & separate laptop stand - both should be sturdy and easy to carry. Please refer yravel cases too for the keyboard stand and laptop stand. 2.) Changing that built-in battery how hard is it to replace? Is it easily replaceable in any battery shops? Or the charger? 3.) For travel - please refer to me a hard case & a softcase but padded in case i can take it as a carry on luggage. 4.) What other accessories should I buy together with the keyboard including speakers and such because i do not know well. Can this controller split two diferent sounds on the keybed and can the pads playing drums while the keybed playing other sounds?

You can use analog lab to split the keyboard at any point, including choosing what area of the keyboard a sound will listen to and having two different sounds at different areas of the keyboard and also muting and over layering keys of choose . The pads are sending on midi channel 10 and the keyboard on channel 1 so you can play drums at the same time using the pads and playing piano using the keyboard

How is the aftertouch? I was disappointed that the Essential range didn't have aftertouch when you consider that the main purpose of this controller is to integrate with Analog Lab. I am on the fence about getting this or the Kontrol. I am not concerned about either Arturia's or NI's software, just that the controller is solid. Thanks

Not all presets seem to support after touch but I found some that did. One that I like is called "accordion" and is based on the dx7. You have to press pretty hard before it is activated so you wont accidentally activate it during normal play. It does not seem to matter how hard you are pressing once the after touch is activated. I do not know if that is how it is or if it is only the presets I have tried. I have never used after touch on any other keyboard so I got nothing to compare to. The controller feels overall good and solid and I am very happy with it. I tested a novation launchkey 61 mk2 a week ago and that felt like a toy compared to this keylab. I think the essential is similar to the launchkey but I have not tested the essential

When you consider the build quality and software integration, which one is a better choice? Native Instruments S61 MKII or Arturia KeyLab 61 MKII ?

I have never tried the S61 but I do know that this Arturia is good, the software integration is excellent and if you buy V collection you can get superb control of the instruments and total control of the sound, probably as close as possible to the real deal.

The controller looks amazing and whatnot, but being on the same price range as NI's kontrol S series I don't see why I should get a keylab... NI's scale mode alone makes me forget about these keylabs.. and I even have my V Collection license... I still love the looks of it though!

The NI kontroll S61 has a list price of 699€ and the Keylab 61 of 499€ so there is some price gap even thought the kontrol S61 is possible to get a little bit cheaper since it has been on the market longer. The Kontrol is shipped with some great software but lack the ins and outs that the Keylab got with only midi, usb and 2 aux. I think that they are aimed at different consumers, the Kontrol more towards modern studios while the Keylab more towards people interested in analog hardware gear and maybe want to build a hardware rack in the future. The CV in and out of the Keylab really shines if you want to use older classic hardware that lack midi and usb. The Kontrol with its LEDs over the keys and big screen might not be fitting in some environments and is drawing a bit of attention to it. I think you are saying something very important, the Kontrol is a great choose and should be considered when buying a more expensive keyboard, especially considering the software is ships with but the Keylab do got some pros over the Kontrol so in the end it just depend on what you are planing to do. I was aiming at being able to control the V Collection synths without having to pay too much attention to the computer and NKS compatibility looks very tempting.. what do you think?

I would grab the keylab just because the look fits my style better and it is more "sneeky" if ever used on stage, however the kontrol looks dope with that screen and everything. I cannot recommend you any of them, I think it only depends on what you are going to do but I think you will be happy with either of them. I have never tried the kontrol, but I wish I could but no store nearby got it :/

Yes, it is compatible with all Midi compatible DAWs, however, I do not think you get one of those magnetic shortcut covers for FL and a predefined map but it is possible to map the controller for FL the same way you map other midi devices in FL

I bought the 49 key mkii the keys are like on a cheap kids piano they are so tiny and flimsy your fingers get caught under the other keys not good stuff and it never keeps its memory controls have to factory reset everytime I have it two weeks and just 1 hour ago I called zzounds and they were extremely happy to let me return it no questions asked they were great about it I'd rather use my mouse and my 100 dollar midi controller has man sized keys and they are better quality

Excellent review - giving close attention to form & function
