Pardon my digging up this old comment, but I can't help but wonder what would be gained by seeing the midi cables being plugged into the Keystep and then into adapter things into the back of the Circuit..? I mean... Cable -> socket is something most people have done a couple of times by the time they are old enough to be wanting to connect a Circuit with a Keystep, I would think.... No?

Agree, best combo to get started with... both have sequencers. Then can get various synths to connect to the Circuit... or the Keystep. Very flexible for 3/4 track sequences.

You should setup the whole thing during video. Either you have previous experience setting up this kind of stuff or the video is quite confusing

Cool set of videos, Do you find those little blue cables seem to pop out of the circuit a bit too easily I have might hooked up to a base station using that as a midi controller.

Yeah, I think Novation built in some give on purpose so that if you drop it or yank a cable it won't damage the Circuit. That is just my guess though, I like to think the best of people haha.

Thanks for great video. And Now I’m using circuit for just sequencer to trigger other external synthesizers. Then can i use either Midi Thrubox or Midi Y splitter to send Midi Clock signal from Circuit Midi Out to both External synth and keystep Midi in ??

Hold shift on the keystep and select midi channel 2

Can you daisy chain from circuit. Midi out from circuit to external synth 1 then out from external synth 1 to synth 2?

That would depend on synth1. You would need what is called Midi thru for that. It is a function some but not all synthesizers have.

You can’t use the pads and keyboard at the same time when controlling external synths unfortunately.

this does not work at all. i get both the circuit and the keystep stuck in arp mode when i switch to it. even if i switch back to sequencer on keystep it keeps playing arp on both devices. maybe you should redo the video with the prior to update 1.8

"All the features of a DAW" ... well, no, not really. It doesn't do audio clips at all, you'd need a performance sampler or audio looper of some kind. But there's no need to exaggerate in this way because this is really a dope combo of gear for a DAWless setup.

what do you mean? you can import any audio file up to 60 seconds in any of the 4 drum tracks, and then switch them out on any step

@@Sektor826 audio clips as in long samples. 60s is the *total* sample storage memory. And that is fine for drum samples, hits, maybe a couple chopped up 1-bar loops but I'm talking about multi-bar clips like you can do in a DAW but can't do with the limited memory of the Circuit. Again, not complaining about the Circuit, just saying the description of this setup having "all the features of a DAW" is hyperbolic at best.

Why circuit doesn't have normal 5 pin DIN MIDI connectors is beyond me. Box is big. they have to spend money on adapters. You have to use them anyway. It's illogical for me. Why?

mikelo303 you can use a headphone splitter to split the midi :D. That’s the one plus I found haha

Circuit is not a DAW, it’s a groove box. It doesn’t even come close to having “all the features of a DAW”. It has all the features of a groove box.
