Sanjay C, this was excellent! And I truly mean that. I've seen advertisements and reviews on the Keystep Pro, but yours is the first that I now understand what it can do. You have a wonderful way of explaining things in a concise, succinct and informative fashion, and I greatly appreciate that. That being said, right now it is a little out of the range of what I can spend. But on a positive note I picked up the original Keystep a few months back, and it has only been out of the box once to connect to hardware (I've got a few things here), so at least I am inspired to get that out and learn to use it! Might be a stepping stone eventually to the Pro. Thank you!

Hey SanjayC, youve got some great videos and I wonder if you have come accross the following problems with the arturia. Although i only have the beatstep but the problem i have necountered as have many other arturia users, and that is, the encoder knobs are erratic in their control. I have have reset and tried all sorts of work arounds to no avail. It seems to occure after about a year or so of use.The main encoder knob is also a problem, as soon as you touch it it will either pan all the way to max volume or minimum level and its impossible to use, and goes the same for all other encoders. Its a little problem that is quiet off putting to not touch any midi controller at all ? would you happen to have a work around or solution, the forums are full of these critisizms against the arturia ?

Thanks for everything Sanjay. I'm unsubscribing/following you. In recent times I noticed that your videos were becoming more and more commercial, more about selling product and less instructional. I followed one of your links to but a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones from one of your other videos, definitely a bad call. While I recognize it's not your fault for their shortcomings, you did recommend them. Returns or exchanges of their product has been impossible. I got the headphones and they looked used, like someone else's return. Their policy is to not accept returns of "Personal items" (headphones, earbuds and such). Pro Audio Star has terrible reviews, their Facebook page is littered with them. In order to help support you and your channel, I used the link. It was a terrible mistake. I trusted your name (brand) and my trust was definitely misplaced. Good luck to you sir, in the future you may want to research those retailers that you endorse. The motivation for the music I love has suffered a serious set back. 😞

Hi Darren. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with the headphones and ProAudioStar. I'm not an affiliate with ProAudioStar, so I do not make any commission from you using that link. I have affiliate links on my channel, but NOT with ProAudioStar. I just found that deal so thought I would share it with my viewers. Thanks for alerting me about your experience with them. I will make sure I remove the link in that video. Also, I do not work with Beyerdynamic, they don't sponsor my videos, or send me free products. I purchase my own Beyerdynamic products and I stand behind my recommendation of them. Darren, this is what I do, I review products on KZbin, and give my opinion about them. And that's all it is - my opinion. If you don't like the products I recommend, then, you're right, it doesn't make sense to stay subscribed. Best wishes to you.

Nice vid, thanks. My only (and big) down is to realise that I can not launch/stop/rec from the Keystep Pro and/or from the sequencer (Live, Logic etc.) indistinctly. Let me explain this. If I launch the sequencer from the computer, yes, the Keystep follows apparently right. But if I then stop from the Keystep, only the Keystep stops and the sequencer keeps on running so I must stop the software on the computer by clicking. It doesn't happen if I launch both, computer and Keystep Pro, from my Komplete Kontrol S49. Then both react like it was supposed to be, and on time, of course, following the commands from the S49. I've tried from Logic to Live, Studio One and even LUNA, and it happens with all of them. To launch/stop both Keystep Pro and the computer software, I must do that from a third controller. Weird, isn't it?

For performance with synths, the KeyStep Pro is the way to go. For performance with Ableton, the Push 2 makes total sense. It depends on what type of performer you are - and what you're working with. the day will come when I have a use for this and need it. now I just want it ;-) My synths all have sequencers built in, I own beatstep (not pro) and keystep (not pro) and my "drum mchine" is the volca beats with snare mod/fix. So I technically don't need this thing at all. But I really want it xD I like the 37 keys, the extended possibilties with 16 patterns, and the fact that I could make use of the cv outs (for now with a semi-modular synth, but who knows what the future will bring, not all modular stuff is unaffordable...) When I got interested in te synth world 2 years ago I thought I'd end up with a room full of Behringers, now it's a room full of Korg and Arturia. who woudda thunk lol
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 4 жыл бұрын
Haha...I like the Arturia synths for sure. Also, consider that this makes performance much easier than moving around to each synth or drum machine. You can control everything from one keyboard.

I rather have this from the get go and just start exploring, is that a good idea or I should stick to the Casio. Btw love your videos!!

I just recently started out with Ableton and I've been looking for a keyboard controller. I was considering this but maybe its not the right one. I really like the scale and chord functionality in this. Is there something that you would recommend? I've watched your other videos but have a hard time deciding, I was considering the launch key 49.

I don't think the KeyStep Pro is a good choice for controlling Ableton. Its more for performance with hardware. For good Ableton choices, check out my $100 keyboards video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYmng4qtmJqji9U. And if you need something bigger, all those companies make bigger versions with more features. Choose your favorite from that list and then go for the bigger/better one from that company.

I am an avid guitar player and a moderate piano player practicing music theory at the moment but have recently got into digital music production due to majoring in electrical engineering. I want to invest in a solid keyboard that can fit my needs to both learn and experiment. I am not sure whether to invest in this or the labkey essential 88. I love classical but I also love drum and bass/trip-hop/psychedelic and all the likes. I am not sure which one of the Arturia would best fit my needs. Thank you!

Good video. Can I ask how you connect the 4 pieces of hardware you mention? I have a very similar set of instruments so am eager to know this before I consider a purchase. Also, do you use Ableton as master clock or the KSP?
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. I routed them all through Ableton because I already have them connected into Ableton and didn't want to rewire it. The KeyStep sends each track on different MIDI channels, so its super easy to setup and just play. But you can also chain them with standard MIDI cables and set them on different channels - with no need for a computer or DAW.
