I would never agree with the number one choice just because it has become so ridiculously overplayed since and I think there are much better songs from the very same album. But that's what's so amazing about being a Green Day fan: every one of us would come up with a totally different list because they have such a strong catalog to choose from! And that being said, I can respect why that particular song resonates so well with so many, so I do understand. If I tried to make a list of my own, I don't even think I could pick a number one, or even a top 3, it would be so difficult. I will say though that Whatsername would definitely be high on my list, because it's so hauntingly beautiful, and holds even more meaning since I feel like it resonates very strongly with me. Every time I hear it, I think of my own "Whatsername", and I'm still not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but that's what makes the song so meaningful to me. Oh yeah, and congrats on 12 years! I've been watching for about 5 of those, and you're definitely my favorite music channel on KZbin, because you're always honest and authentic, you don't hold back, and we have pretty similar taste in bands in general. Here's to 12 more man!

Really good list with some solid deep cuts. My favorite Green Day song (and song of all time) is a controversial one. Misery. To me, that song is so unique and so interesting and so timeless. It’s the first Green Day song I could get my Maw Maw (rip) to love. And I’ve always considered it to be the stepping stone that lead us to the bombastic, genre flipping operas of JOS, and Homecoming and American Eulogy.

My Top 25 (my favorite 3 albums were AI, 21CB, and RevRad clearly) 25. Too Dumb to Die (solid song from RevRad) 24. Give Me Novocaine (the the change from the sweet acoustic music to the hard rock gives me Nirvana’s Lithium vibes) 23. 21st Century Breakdown (did amazing job setting up the tone of the rest of the album as a multi part song. 22. Revolution Radio (another great title track) 21. Misery (best song from Warning, the most underrated album) 20. Longview (deserves all its love) 19. Before the Lobotomy (another great multi-part track) 18. Outlaws (beautiful song) 17. Forever Now (RevRad’s Jesus of Suburbia, did a great job) 16. Pollyanna (great tune, was great to see live, and gives me hope for later Green Day albums. 15. 21 Guns (seemed like they were trying to make another Wake Me Up but it still sold for me) 14. I thought everything Nirvana put out from 1994 to 2009 was fantastic and 2016 was a great comeback. I am very hopeful for this band because after seeing them live they seemed like they still got at least 100 years of energy in them.

I'll always remember going to a homeschooling convention, way back when I first fell in love with Green Day and listened to American Idiot on repeat. I don't remember details but I recall one of the speakers bringing up Boulevard of Broken Dreams. He said something about how the song was basically a bad influence because it is making the listener believe they are alone and that God isn't with them. Makes me laugh every time I think about it.

The message of the song is actually the opposite. At least for me. The line "Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me" points out a very important bit about depression. Most people wait for someone to help them without actively seeking it out. I was on the verge of suicide when I heard this song and I realised that although I felt alone, there are people out there who aren't aware of my issues and thus couldn't properly help me. The next day, I decided to call up my friends, open up, and I've been alive and well for the next 5 years. This song is special to me because of this message.

My favorite song has always been 86 and it always had a particular meaning for me that is not what the song is even about, but since I was born in 86 the phrase "there's no return from 86" ever since I was a kid makes me think that I can never be unborn.
