Surprizing effects when combining soft pastels with acrylic, and ultimately really cool! This will be my weekend project.

A zinger ! I admit after that first pull I was saying "now leave it Fulton!" but the iridescent white is perfect, perhaps because its semi transparent. The pastel mixing with the acrylic is quite tonally subtle plus it'll fix it, definitely a bonus with a fragile pigment like soft pastel. After a day of fun with my new 8x10 i was delighted to find you'd posted this and I could sit back and see how it's done by a more experienced hand than mine. But I'll keep rolling. Thank you ❤

I think it's perfect! Such a lovely, soft effect. Pastel is pure pigment and melts if wet -- orange and blue (opposites) will turn brown, and yellow and blue turn green. The acrylic blues picked up everything, though. I see lots of possibilities. Thank you!

Hiya Fulton, love this but understand your disappointment with the pastel. What if you laid it on after your blue paint layer & then seal by brayering a matte or gloss gel medium onto the Gelli plate & reapplying your art onto this. This is how I seal pastels . I also do this if I have photocopied my art for card making. Seals the inkjet ink without smearing or smudging. Cheers, Gay

I love this. Question is there a difference between oil pastels and soft pastels
@artwhisperer8823 күн бұрын
soft pastels are powdery like chalk, while oil pastels have an oily medium and repel water.
@gloriaschurman622122 күн бұрын
@artwhisperer88 thanks I have both and really didn't understand the difference. Learn something new everyday

That's very cool. I love when you experiment. I tried using Posca markers on my plate but I think it's still too new because the ink separates from lines to dots.💕
@judyk.65723 күн бұрын
I have that happen too. Someone suggested to place a piece of copy paper on the plate for a few nights to absorb some of the oils in the plate. Also seems the 3 or 5m are a little better than the really large or small nibs. Good luck with your experiments

I have a suggestion. Try this again but use clear mat medium to pull the final print instead of blue. No need for the white layer. I tried a mini version and it looks very cool. Thanks for your experiments and inspiring videos 💐🥰👍🏻

I love your fearless approach Fulton but feel on this occasion it was more a learning curve rather than a successful result. Thanks for your constant inspiration to try new processes.👍✌🏾

more learning curves are a good thing! I will be turning 70 this September, but I learn something new everyday.
@grahamewebber403822 күн бұрын
Yes Fulton,I agree. I’m also turning 71 in February and spent many years in my 30’s experimenting with large scale fabric screen printing and made all the mistakes possible, but learnt something from each experience so please be assured I didn’t mean to suggest it was a bad thing. I just love the way you’re always searching for a new approach.👍✌🏾

I wonder if using a transparent medium to transfer the 1st layer to paper would preserve the bright colours of the pastel? And then another layer to add the dark blue background? Anyway, I love the result where the pastel becomes transparent and blends with the blue.
@smyification15 күн бұрын
I wonder if, after the initial transfer of the pastels to the plate, if the color would have kept its hue if you had put some clear gel medium on each object and let dry before adding the blue paint?
@artwhisperer8815 күн бұрын
@@smyification no, the only way to keep the original color is to use a clear medium for a transfer.
@denaike139024 күн бұрын
I like the way the pastels turned brown and green. Maybe try using the irridecent white to do the first pick up layer instead of the final layer and the use a darker pimary Or a gold or copper color as the final layer. Would be interesting to see, as another experiment.🎉
