The title is a misnomer - though Paganini composed many pieces for guitar solo (and in chamber ensembles) he did not 'write' a concerto - this is an arrangement of two movements from his 'Grand Sonata'. Otherwise there can be no complaint about it as a vehicle for virtuosity, which Artyom Dervoed has in abundance (his CD 'Russian Guitar Music' is even more amazing).

The classical guitar is definitely best for me, when the line is ponderous and melodic. I don't care much for the fast virtuostic displays. This gentleman deserves great respect for his considerable chops, but I like best the emotional expression he finds in the slower lines.

Superb guitar playing. I didn't know that this work existed as a concerto. I had only ever heard (and played it) as a solo guitar piece. It works well as a concerto. I do know Paganini used to play guitar for this when he and his guitarist Luigi Legnani performed together. Luigi had complained to Paganini that he felt that Paganini should write something that featured the guitar more prominently than the violin. Paganini did so but duped Luigi and ended up playing the guitar part himself. What a legend. Pure Genius!

Leandro Quiroga well paganini DID write conciertos for guitar so maybe this is legit... then again, a lot of his violin conciertos could be arranged for guitar too, so im not sure. xD

La sonata en cuestión contiene 3 movimientos, el primero (allegro risoluto) no está tratado aqui, que es justo el que tiene forma sonata y sería perfecto para una adaptación para guitarra y orquesta formando así, un concierto completo. De todos modos ésta adaptación es muy simple, muy pobre la parte orquestal. Se pudo haber hecho algo mejor con esta sonata que es realmente hermosa. La ejecución de Mr. Dervoed es impecable y virtuosa pero la pieza en su conjunto deja mucho que desear.
