Whatever hou puts on the ball it's devastating. Also the consistent depth of play he manages combined with his spin wins many points.

Am I seeing this right? Does Hou get his no-spin/slight top-spin pushes from using the same technique as backhand serve? It seems like he uses a similar motion and hit the ball on the way up to get the no spin.

Yes whatever he does, and its not easy to see in the games, it must be very awkward for his opponents. His depth of chop is excellent, but it's also quite fast and skiddy. That must be his short pips style.
