You have to give credits to ma Te, he played 2 matches to 7 sets in two days. Challenging everyone in sight. Choppers are getting harder to survive nowadays especially in the men's game and Ma Te is keeping the style alive.

Ma Te needs a more powerful forehand. The defense looks good. But his counter attack does not stress Aruna at all.

A more powerful forehand would be beneficial, but I think his attacks are fast enough to disrupt his opponent (switch from defense to offense affecting opponents timing) and hit winners. The biggest issue I see is thst he makes a lot of errors when he attacks. Watched a lot of his games and his defense is steller. Even on straight set defeats his defense is good, but he throws so many key points away with attacking errors. Needs to steady that ship if he wants to turn these types of losses around.

Ma Te has great potential. Difference between short pips and long pips though with whst yiure saying about attacks etc. But Ma Te's defense is sound. Biggest issue he has is thst 1) he doesn't hit hard and 2) he makes a lot of errors when attacking. Bad combo. Seen so many of his matches and his defense is strong enough to compete with the very best in the world, but defense alone won't win him matches. A few decades ago it might have. But anyway, when he attacks, he throws away a lot of points, and it's not as if he has a lot of punch behind those attacks to balance errors with winners. Needs to fix that. I really hope he's working on that right now, as can seen him easily being top 20, if not higher, if irons out the kinks and gets more experience.

@@CalvinAytch correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't really played a lot of ittf tournaments, at least not as many as you'd expect considering his level, in the past either. Know he's beaten Joo Sae Hyuk before and competes well with a number of the elites like Boll. He would appear to me to be at thr same level overall as Joo Sae Hyuk, and he reached workd rank of 5.

Aruna looks awkward but his forehand is strong and steady. It's probably too late now but a coach could work with him to eliminate some of the excess motion he uses. It has to tire him out over the course of a long match.

Ma Te actually has a weird defending style, it's not clearly distinguishable as classic or modern defensive, it seems he has less of a game strategy, less spin variation than a defender like Ruwen Filus, I don't know about Ma Te man.

Ma Te reminds me of Wu yang, minus the use of long pips instead of short pips (I dont even know if that's true or not). His chops are too rhythmic, and thus easy to predict. Comparing him to Hou Yingchao, Hou varies the speed of his chops to greatly disturb his opponents rhythm, while actually attacking instead of counterattacking. Ma Te would absolutely destroy any woman player with this style, but against men, where it's so hard to win merely off of counterattackkng, Ma needs to develop more dimension to his play, maybe by starting the attack first or changing the pace of his defensive play.

A lot of unnecessary follow through on Aruna forehand. I mean he is a good player, but removing those unnecessary movements will make him move faster to prepare for the next shot. Thus I hope he will become a real challenger for CNT & top European players

Aruna is overly cautious, he uses too many short swings to handle the chopper. But that's unnecessary, he only needs to swing with full strength to get this match, chopping is the lamest technique.
