A lot of people are not aware this is a highly technical challenge between top players with different styles, skills, and tactics. Have to play the game to realize/enjoy it.

On serves/chops, players sometimes use different contact areas on their rubbers to confuse the opponents. For example, spinning/cutting the ball with earliest rubber contact (keeping the ball on rubber surface longer) to create more spin. But late contact only induces less spin, set up for a 3rd ball attack/kill. However, it takes a lot of practice to gauge the timing. If perfected, it'll even fool top players. That's why we see unforced/awkward returns after services or chops. A lot of tricks on that 2.7gm ball, haha...Last of all, you need a fairly good quality rubber to get the effect. On interview, Xu Xin once said he changes his rubbers nearly every 10 days with a brand new one before each tournament!

xu xin has all the advantages in this match, very strong forehand, penhold style, being lefthanded. no chance for any defender!

Xu Xin was close to his peak at that time. Ma Te is an excellent defender but it's hard to handle Xu Xin's loops and drives. He has a slow loop and mixes it with a faster one. Adjusting to it is very difficult.

Xu Xin, in general, does not really lose to defenders. Even the world's best defender at the time, Joo Se Hyuk, could not stop Xu Xin. His long arms allow him to control the speed of the loop and his quick footwork to be able to hit a nasty forehand drive/topspin from almost anywhere on the table. Defenders want to slow the game down on their own terms and attack when they get the chance or hope their opponent make a mistake, but when playing against Xu Xin, the game's speed (slow game, fast game) was determined by him, not the defender.

@@Sazyua I wonder which of the defenders Xu Xin was losing to? I don't know any in international tournaments. Unless it's in the Chinese league, like Ma Te or Hou Yingchao?
@Sazyua2 жыл бұрын
@@eduarduhkuhuku9761 Very rarely did Xu Xin lose to choppers, especially international choppers. Only Asian choppers can do okay against Xu Xin, but the best Asian choppers like Ma Te, Hou Yingchao, Chen Weixing, and Joo Se Hyuk, are almost powerless against Xu Xin. As far as I know, no notable choppers have beaten Xu Xin, besides maybe Ma Te one time? But even then, Ma Te's record against Xu Xin is not good. Xu Xin is truly a chopper's nightmare. He makes it look so easy.
