Arunachala is the presence of eight lingams (Asta Lingams) situated at different cardinal points around the Arunachala Hill.
These lingams are as follows:
Indra Lingam (East): This lingam represents Lord Shiva as the presiding deity of the East.
Agni Lingam (Southeast): Agni Lingam symbolizes Lord Shiva as the Lord of Fire and is located in the southeast direction.
Yama Lingam (South): Yama Lingam represents Lord Shiva as the Lord of Death and is situated in the southern direction.
Niruthi Lingam (Southwest): This lingam is dedicated to Lord Shiva as the Lord of the Southwest.
Varuna Lingam (West): Varuna Lingam is in the west and represents Lord Shiva as the Lord of the Waters.
Vayu Lingam (Northwest): Vayu Lingam represents Lord Shiva as the Lord of the Wind and is located in the northwest direction.
Kubera Lingam (North): Kubera Lingam symbolizes Lord Shiva as the Lord of Wealth and is situated in the northern direction.
Esanya Lingam (Northeast): Esanya Lingam is located in the northeast direction and represents Lord Shiva as the presiding deity of the Northeast.
