This padam is about a lovelorn maiden (devotee) who looks out for the passing chariot--palanquin/procession carrying the lord of Cidambaram hoping to have a darshan and a loving glance of compassion from him to assuage her longing for the lord Nataraja. She is wondering whether the street in which she lives will be on the procession route and whether the lord will cast a glance at her waiting at her door-front. She wishes that the lord will halt in front of her door and whisper sweet nothings to her.❤❤

I liked the concept a lot. It's more of a cinematography piece in itself, with sprinkles of Bharatnatyam elements. What I enjoyed the most is the details : with the kajal, mirror, the well. There's no denying that this can get better, but indeed a great start.

@@brightstar6386 you're a classical dancer/musician or affiliated in any way to Indian classical dance? Can you tell me how this is bharatanatyam and not odissi?
@brightstar6386
@brightstar6386 6 жыл бұрын
@@Hdaran yes I am a bharathanatyam dancer trained in traditional pandanallir style. Every Indian classical dances are said to be originated from natya shastra. But it's not completely true. Natya shastra deals with the music and hand gestures and postures and does not talk anything about any specific dance. Every dance from each state is heavily influenced from its state folk arts. Odissi has a unique hip movements throughout and even the postures with have a unique style, again influence from the odissa folk arts. Whereas bharathanatyam is from TAMILNADU, which is unique in its own way like feet tapping according to the music, more rigid postures and gestures !!
@Hdaran
@Hdaran 6 жыл бұрын
my salutations to a trained bharathanatyam dancer. I am but a former odissi dancer whose life and knee injury got in the way of further dancing. But during my training I learned enough to make the distinctions you speak of. I am aware that the Natya Sashtra speaks of the various hastas, mudras, and padavedas, owing to no single type of classical repertoire. I am also aware that early, primordial folk dance heavily influences Indian classical dance. I would like to also kindly and humbly correct you on one aspect. Odissi does not involve hip movement to my best of knowledge, not the modern revival of odissi at least, (I speak of post colonial reincarnation of odissi by the great gurus of yesteryears, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Guru Deba Prasad Das, Guru Pankaj Charan and Guru Gangadhar Pradhan). It is actually the torso that moves/isolates and that may be misconstrued for the hips swaying. This was what I was taught coming from the Deba Prasad gharana of odissi. Odissi would look a lot different if hip movements were involved! :) However, my question to you was, how do you correct me and claim the above piece to be bharatanatyam? As for my end of observations, the prominent and exaggerated tribanghi poses, characteristic of odissi in the piece; the rounded arm movements as well as chin movements; plus the fluidity that loops without a defined finish tells me this is odissi. Plus, Arushi Mudgal happens to be a leading odissi danseuse with a reputation for extensive knowledge, perfection and contribution in and to odissi. I do not know Arushi ji to perform bharatanatyam although, I admit, it would be naive of me to assume that bharatanatyam eludes her. Again, my salutations to you and I do hope you understand that my replies and comments aren't to challenge or belittle you. I am simply seeking clarification, comprehension and elaboration.
@brightstar6386
@brightstar6386 6 жыл бұрын
@@Hdaran I feel sorry for you that your body is not allowing you to perform as you did earlier. Hope you get well soon. I have very little knowledge about odissi dance form. Ya that could be a misunderstood that the torso movements looked hip movements to me !!. My apologies to you on that. That was my mistake. To be very clear. Most of her expressions are subtle which is again a unique thing about bharathanatyam. The abhinayam mostly would be casual and subtle. But other than that the dance at 1:50 clearly is bharathanatyam. The rigid torso with aramandi (half sitting) and before she takes the nataraja pose she stamps her leg, that is very prominent bharathanatyam adavu. Yes I know Arushi is a exemplary odissi dancer. But this piece is a famous bharathanatyam padam.

'Theruvil Varano'- Is Natarjan* (Lord Shiva) arriving on the street? Won't he just give a glance at me? The one who burned the TriPuram(three worlds) with his fierce vision.(It's just a gist of the song not a complete translation) *Natarajan- Natarajan is the epithet given to Lord Shiva , who is the performing cosmic dance in Chidambaram Temple,Tamilnadu.
