We were skeptical at first and wasn't sure how this was all going to turn out but we are so glad we got the ceiling sand blasted! Its far from over, we still have to hand finish the ceiling and pick a stain that will create a cohesive look. Let me know what you guys think and as always links to certain items are down below.

Arvin. I am an old lady and I have never commented on any of your videos. Or many designers videos. BUT those ceilings are STUNNING! Who painted them. It should be a crime. Now they are absolutely beautiful and are probably 80 percent of the house. Good job!

For the white spots that were uncovered on the beams - clean out all the white stuff then clean all the sand and contaminants in the rooms, then when you go to sand, the texture left from sandblasting - keep the saw dust! You can mix it with stain-able wood glue until it is a paste and fill those holes with the paste. Since it is technically from your same wood, when you go treat/stain/seal your wood, it will be an exact match where a premade wood filler would be a difficult match.

You have done a fantastic job. Concerning the wall color - you might have to put in mind that the yellow toned one will look even more yellow against the wood. You might think a little colder color so it doesn't get to yellowish. You need contrast.

The fact that the previous owners painted over that beautiful wood is heartbreaking. What makes a mid-century gem shine is all the warm wood features. You are doing good bringing it back! ❤

Sandblasting is the most effective way to sand down large surface areas of wood, as well as hard-to-reach corners or tricky edges. The best ingredient used in sandblasters is crushed corn so it is non-toxic! When done correctly (distance, setting, stroke technique) the end result is simply STUNNING! This takes microdermabrasion to a whole new level! It’s virgin wood, never exposed to any environmental elements. Our neighbors down the street live in a log cabin and did the sandblasting……absolutely GORGEOUS! The logs came out so clean and pure and any spot that had signs of rot were gone! The pinewood was born again and you could smell the pine across the neighborhood! They used a sheer stain that deepened and enhanced the natural vein and ring patterns in the wood and just WOW! You guys made the right choice! The ceiling looks GORGEOUS! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and letting us tag along in your journey! I love how you are both a student and a teacher! I have learned so much through your videos and your humor and wit are food for the soul! Arvin, that wood is absolutely beautiful! Huge undertaking, but looks like it's definitely paying off! 💙 And I agree about the fireplace... especially with your exposed wood, that tone isn't working anymore. So many beautiful options for you to ponder! Genius kitchen skylight idea! I absolutely LOVE BM White Dove in my home. I have lots of natural light from many directions also, and though it does change throughout the day (and seasons!...think how your landscape changes seasonally), the undertones are never extreme, always pleasant, warm and happy, never dingy or dirty looking. I've recommended it to so many people since painting a year and a half ago! Anyway, love how it's looking, love to you and Andrew, and your two adorable little monsters.

Taking the ceilings back to their original 👍👍👍 Getting the stain tone you want to me is going to be your next decision and then choose the wall color. I personally like on camera the brown brutalist vibe of that fireplace with the wood ceilings and think it provides a great contrast and focal point fitting for the house

The ceilings look fabulous! When you walked into the kitchen and mentioned that it looked a little dark, I agreed and immediately thought: the kitchen needs a skylight! And then you said the same. It would bring so much naturel light into that space and really show off the beautiful wood ceilings. I am a Benjamin Moore girl and I think that a creamy white is the best way to go. You just don't want to go too yellowy-beigey. Okay.....please do not get rid of the fireplace. Please??? Just my opinion. Thank you for taking us along on this journey.

Yes adding a skylight would definitely help in the kitchen. I knew the kitchen needed something but I didn't know what. It was definitely lacking natural light.

Skylight in kitchen - yes! I would add a Roman shade to the skylight so you can adjust the light coming at certain times of the day/ season. You don’t want glare!

Arvin! What you do with those beams outside is FACE them with new wood. Even an exterior plywood (birch?) that can be stained, or just a thin laminate facing of some sort. You can match them inside as well.

I grew up in a Mid Century Modern Deck house, although it was a long time ago so we just called it Modern. I wasn't sure I was going to like the sandblasted ceilings, I was wrong I love the red wood, it warms up your home while oddly making it seem more open. I have to say I really like the brown fireplace and agree the cinderblocks wouldn't work. I can't wait to see what you do next. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

I love your ceilings so much, I also love your fireplace it looks like it's covered in warm leather, but if you hate it, get rid!! Instead of a skylight in the kitchen, why not just remove those small windows and get ones that go to the ceiling? The skylight I think will cheapen the room somewhat, but you're a fantastic interior designer, and you have a great eye for detail. Whatever you choose will look great!! ❤️

My head was nodding like a bobble head when you said what about a skylight for the kitchen. Just a suggestion that might be useful to you. We installed 3 SolarTubes in one of our home's kitchen. Less intrusive and expensive and are incredibly light rendering. Also installed some in our dark hallway in same house. The house is looking so good, Arvin.

Arvin, you absolutely made the right decision to strip the paint! The wood is going to be soo gorgeous when it’s sanded and sealed! I actually just painted the interior of our home with “China Doll” from Sherman Williams, it’s a buttery white. It’s a nice contrast behind whites, black n brown decor. But I’m sure you’ll pick the perfect color for your home! Great job once again!!! 👍😍

I love the natural wood ceilings! You could go dark brown or black on the beams and bring in a touch more of the modern you had. I think it would just accentuate the glow of the ceiling itself and it would cover the difference in the beam wood and the repairs and still look very chic. You have a gorgeous home!

I have a mid-century home with the original wood ceiling much like yours. I find it very Japanese and love it sooooo much. I used after several attempts, Farrow & Ball's 'Shaded White' everywhere and love it. Anything with a bit of yellowish in it looked awful and more yellow when sunlight came in. The contrast of my F&B color with the wood was divine! 'Shadow White' is slightly darker in our bedroom which is also gorgeous! Get a sample!!!

love the ceiling can't wait to see the staining process and how the ceiling turns out. As for paint colors, Shea used Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore 75% lighter. She uses that for a lot of her projects. Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent has the pain color by Behr called Blank Canvas, and I absolutely love it. You could also find colors based on what you wear with your clothing. Remember what Kelly Wearstler said in her master class "you look best in what you wear." so why not look at some of your clothing and find the color. You could take it Benjamin Moore or Sherman-Williams and see if they could color match the fabric. Other than that, I can't wait to see the final details.
