I've been running the original AP for near 4 years now and it's never let me down. Whatever model it goes in, RTH works on stock settings really well and autolaunch is a very reliable too. I'd love to use this Crosshair, but its 2 major downfalls are price and form factor. To compete with the Matek boards it needs to be $100 or less and I'd like to see the current sensor and BEC's built into the main unit (again like the Matek boards). Thanks for the review though.

You are correct... it is larger than what I expected too... especially considering what Matek are doing with the Wing series! As for the price... can't comment there... cubes go up to $400-$500... for the main unit only, and no sensors... soooo...

I have been a Dragonlink and EagleTree Vector guy for years. But this video makes me want to try the MFD Crosshair. I have seen you with MFD, Pixhawk, Arduplane etc, however never seen you or Adam G using the Vector, so I am not sure if you guys could compare. I have no intention of using an MFD tracker, so other than things such as auto launch/land is there any other advantages to the MFD? I almost pulled the trigger already on the purchase but the price is making me cautious and want to stick with the Vector. Again, not sure if you are able to compare, but any input would be appreciated guys. Thanks.

Well... sadly I have no experience with the Vector, so can't say much, but I have rarely heard a bad thing or a complaint about it, if ever... sooooo... people seem to be quite happy, and it seems to work!

Which competition? Pixhawk and APM are pretty much the same thing... but Pixhawk is the newer hardware and now better code, since it is still being supported and developed! Matek... can have the same firmware on it as Pixhawk... but again... I need to know what competition is that, and what plane will be carrying those things!

Actually it is the Skyzone HD02 monitor, and it has an integrated diversity receiver, so makes things easier with the 5.8ghz relay from the antenna tracker.

Hi, yes I would! It is a solid system with very few issues, and it has worked reliably for me. True, support can be difficult to contact at times, but I am quite happy with ease of operation and use, and can absolutely recommend it!

Another outstanding video showcasing another great product. Since the demise of Eagle Tree last September, it seems INAV compatible boards have taken a good chunk of the market. Looks like the days of many proprietary systems are numbered. It looks like the MFD Crosshairs auto pilot combines upmost sophistication with down right set up simplicity- and all at a reasonable cost. You literally get everything [minus VTX/Camera] ready to plug and play. Do you think this will replace eagle tree as one of best proprietary systems? Again. Excellent video. Florida USA

Thanks! Well... not sure... it certainly has the potential too... although some people do get carried away in their demands - well can it do waypoint mission splines, well can it do this, can it do that... you have to go into this one knowing it is NOT a mapping tool... at least not at this point, although it has some autonomous capability, including take off, landing, and a host of other more advanced features, but they in no way make it more complicated. I like it, flew it yesterday on the MFD Crosswind Mini again... and it is just brilliant! Video will be released later today!

Omnibus F4 (ArduPlane) with XM+ receiver it's working but with JUMPER R1+ receiver there is nothing on Radio Calibration tab. Roll back to INAV or BETAFLIGHT or CLEANFLIGHT now JUMPER R1+ working, again in ArduPlane R1+ not working, XM+ working. Can you check that matter ?? Waiting for any kind of reply.

What is the output protocol of the Jumper R1 receiver? I am not sure ArduPlane recognised protocols like iBUS... Spektrum serial satellite stuff, etc. Could be it is only PPM and SBUS... and this receiver does not output that, but something else!

Hey, sadly I have no experience with 4G control, and I have not looked into it, so I am not sure how exactly it works, but I would assume it should be possible as long as that 4G module can output SBUS or CPPM the autopilot will receiver it and work normally!

Well the sensor is capable of handling 100A, if I am not mistaken, but you don't need two of them for two motors, though there is a limit on how big motors can be run through this thing! If your motors consume more than 100A, better look for a different autopilot with higher current sensors, although I will have to inquire whether there will be a higher current sensor available as an option! On this plane, the motors do not go over 60A combined, so I should be good! And that is only at full throttle.

Well the new MFD Crosshair AP will be better if you are already used to the simplicity! The F765 Wing will require ArduPlane... and that is a whole different animal!

You can't have two cams with this system, unless you use a video switcher! A servo can go directly to the receiver, if it has any PWM outputs, otherwise I know they are working on firmware to allow channel passthru, just like on ArduPilot, so you can map a channel for custom use from the radio, via the controller! As for the GPS, number of sats doesn't have an icon, but it is at the top of the OSD... I think about mid screen, should be a value of around 12, or something... it is that one!

Well yes... but it does have functionality a bit above basic! But generally yes... includes all you would need, even the Airspeed sensor! Only laser sensor is separate, if you would be wanting those super smooth auto landings, which in recent firmware updates also include doing a few passes over the landing area to scan it, and get a feel for the terrain to better adjust the landing!

Yes, the Nimbus VTOL uses a Pixhawk, if I am not mistaken, not this autopilot! Also, I did say in the video that at this point the autopilot does not support many mapping functions, which may be added later, if there is demand! At this time they are also not advertising it for mapping! :)

It should be possible because Crossfire does support that functionality, though I don't have Crossfire so not familiar with the programming in it to get it working! Mission Planner will accept and show flight information from the Crosshair!

Geez, I don't know, I bought the Crosshair, lidar, and sonar, but there are no instructions on how to connect both the Lidar and Sonar to the Crosshair to be able to do what the the Myflydream says the unit is capable of. I have even written to them in Chinese (将激光雷达和声纳两者连接到MFD十字准线的说明在哪里?), but no one has bothered to answer. I sure hope you do one of your great videos on autonomous landing.

@@ArxangelRC I used the "contact" link on their website. What a shame, the Crosshair is a great unit at a great price for all the stuff one gets. I had tried auto landing with other flight controllers and always had problems with the landing on long flights. Based on what Myflydrean says, the problems were probably due to the barometer not being calibrated before the landing. The Crosshair, in conjunction with both the lidar and sonar units, is supposed to take care of this issue. That is why I purchased it.

@@ArxangelRC Sorry, I forgot. Those instructions do not explain how to connect both the lidar and the sonar to the AP at the same time. The instructions make it seem like there is an extra CAN-BUS connector for the lidar on the white 24 pin connecter, but there is not. There is only one for the sonar. Finally, the instructions say to switch around the D10 RX and D11 TX pins to make the sonar work. but that does not have to be done because it is already wired correctly for it to work. I am including all this information in my post because I know many people view your videos for an excellent explanation on how to do things correctly, and maybe my comments can help them out. I will address all further concerns to the link you graciously provided.

@@EnglishTurbines my thoughts exactly. The great work done by the inav devs has rendered these expensive auto pilots completely irrelevant. For £40 you can buy a matek F405-WING board, an extra £15 for a BN-880 GPS with compass, and then choose whether to put Arduplane or iNav on it.

Hi ArxangelRC Running several issues. First one: I was only getting black and white OSD, finally figured out that you have to put NTSC in the AP. Now I am not able to get the GPS reading. Still trying to figure it out. Red light on the GPS and no GPS reading at all on OSD (outdoor). Do you know if anyone has come across this issue? Thanks

Hm... actually there is an option in the setup to change between colour and black and white OSD... as for the GPS... does it say somewhere that there are is no GPS lock... or do you just can't find the indicator on the OSD?

@@ArxangelRC thanks for responding, no reading at all on the OSD. GPS unit blinking blue colour. I waited for at least 25 mins outdoor and still no reading just showing - - on top right of OSD display. I have also double check the connections etc to ensure all correct and properly secured.

Yeah... both flight mode switches to full, and assuming you have waypoints loaded into the FC, it will engage WPT mode!

If you are talking about the bunch of wires coming out of the big connector, where the I/O board connects... instead of it... then no! I have not used it! Do not like the mess that it creates!

Isn't that harness labelled? I think there is a pinout of the header in the manual, and the harness is also labelled... the are etched names on the servo plugs of the harness... if memory serves!

@@ArxangelRC Hello and thank you for all your excellent videos ! You can confirm the connection of the VTX and the camera with a screen of your connection to the IO Board. On the video we do not see well. Thanks, that would be nice. Otherwise, without the IO Board, no way to connect via USB for Mission Planer !

Well, you can always wire in some telemetry, that should sort out the connection to Mission Planner! As for the VTX and camera connections on the I/O board, will upload the photo here as a post on youtube, so make sure you check back later today or tomorrow, should be up! If you Subscribe and hit the bell button, I think you might even get notified of that. :)

Yeah I had issues with mine where the black surround of the white text just decided to disappear, making it very difficult to read the text against bright sky.

The MFD CRosshair is one of the top auto pilots at a great price (considering everything it comes with.) However, I do not recommend it because the instructions are lacking in specificity and are full of assumptions one really does not know will work unless tried, and then you may burn out the autopilot. Also, there are a bunch of videos put out by MFD which are scattered all over the web and also lack specificity. TOO BAD!

Some people in RC hobby community suggest that MFD Crosshair auto landing is a scam it doesn't really works.
