Nikola, I was hoping you would get around to this little brother version. I have been flying it for about a year now, and love it. I added top spec servo's and Dragonlink + 1.2gHz VTX and run a 4250mAh liion pack (remember the 20700's I mentioned way back?). It is very easily capable of very long range, and loves altitude. Another excellent detail is the proper hinged surfaces, and it has cast in slots which allowed me to fit the Autopilot to a thin aluminium plate, and slide it back into position right near CG. I run it with two camera's (split and micro sparrow) it thermals well, about the same as my Hawksky V2. I also use a Sunnysky 2212, as I purchased the kit version. It's a little legend that has slipped under most peoples radar. Thanks again for posting another great vid.

So great to hear this! Very useful info here! What kind of flight times are you getting with that motor and battery? Also, what prop? Sounds like a very nice setup! :)
@alasdair41616 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I now have it fitted out with a Omnibus F4pro, and have not trusted it for super long distance after having the same issues as you, but I am going to fit a new FW version storm in it soon which will make it trustworthy again. I run a 6x5 prop, mainly because the Sunnysky 2212 is 2450kv, which suits 3s liion really well, still lots of reserve thrust at under 3v/cell. It will cruise on under 3A and can fly nearly 2 hours, just not with inav...! It doesn't climb like a rocket, but 1m/second is no effort and it will do more, but I rarely need to. With rudder mixed to aileron it flies like a dream, it just carves like its on rails .. the only letdown again is inav with its clunky disconnected feel and crazy turn confusion. I was even tempted to Vector it..
@ArxangelRC6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha... yeah, will lay off on the iNav for a while myself, will have to decide what to mount in it though, but I do have a fair number of the Micro APM boards lying around, and if anything, my X-UAV Clouds has proven that they are quite reliable! :) 2 hour flight times?? On this plane? What size battery is that?
@alasdair41616 жыл бұрын
I made delta style 3s packs using the Panasonic 20700B cells, giving 4250mah and 20A continuous. The size is perfect as I made a simple locating tray and the canopy holds the pack tight, but I also made a better catch system with a hook at the front and a slide pin release at the rear. It sure becomes a narrow field when it comes to flight controllers that you can trust for long range hey. Ive heard a lot of good things with the Cyclops Storm, and Tornado, and at half the price of Vector I thought I'd give it a try.
@ArxangelRC6 жыл бұрын
Good... I have a Tornado... have had it for YEARS!!! Brand new in its bag... never used it, but I think I might mount it on something now... but might put it on the Ranger 2000, as I don't have the upgrade cable to bring it up to date so it would support a V-tail.

That looks like a nice easy flyer. I have a Ranger 1600 arriving next week and am setting it up with Crossfire and 2.4 Ghz video. I plan on using it for some mellow medium range flights.

Yeah, sounds about right! Ranger 1600 and 2000 are indeed great platforms.
@wesorama6 жыл бұрын
I'm anxious to see more on this one. Just got mine put together, but I had to steal two of the motor mount screws (2.6x8mm) to attach the tail. I'll be replacing those of course. Also my tail wheel was bent wrong about a centimeter too low from the hole in the rudder, but I just redid the bends. Other than that it looks pretty cool, balances with 3s 2200 lipo all the way forward. But it sure seems heavy for those little wings to hold it up, plus all the other gear I plan to add in the future! I wonder what the wing loading is. That yellow arrow is awesome.

What is the ideal way to have a power supply to the fpv transmitter on the craft? The leads spliced into each of the corresponding positive and negative wires of the ESC, then soldered and have heat shrink added as to not cause a short, or to have a separate battery that only powers the fpv camera and transmitter? Thank you.
@ArxangelRC6 жыл бұрын
Hi, actually that is about the worst way to do it! A separate battery would be a best case scenario, but is cumbersome and requires you to think about a second battery, which I am not a fan of! Splice the cable at the ESC connector, but put an LC filter after then, and then power the whole video system via that LC filter. That is how I do it.

1. How much weight can it lift on this setup? U put 3 cameras, and it was fine, so what's the total weight here? Also, can you check how much more it could take. 2. Do you think you could install a full auto pilot, hd cam, fpv cam and transmitter, and still fly it? 3. Is it possible to install a rotating camera on it, and fly it. Maybe some compact gimbal, or at least a 1D platform below it? Or is this too much drag? I mean, it took 3 cameras, in weird places, and flew! I would love to build a cheap beast of a fpv plane!
@ArxangelRC5 жыл бұрын
1. sadly that model is no longer with me, but those cameras were around 160-200 grams... and depending on where the weight is... it could carry a bit more... it will need a higher speed to maintain stable flight! 2. Yes, if that autopilot is one of those Omni F4 Pro boards, or similar, I see no reason why it wouldn't fly! 3. You can always do a servo mount for a camera and have either 1 or 2 axis of rotation! Should be light enough, but then it depends on the camera too! In general it is doable, just have to make sure that you can still balance the plane properly at the CG location to make sure it will fly right!

Good afternoon. I'm searching a plane to do aerial footage with a gimbal installed. Do you think this plane will lift the weight of a gimbal and a xiaomi camera in the nose? If not...Wich one do you recommend? Maybe mini-talon...
@dannymoore87856 жыл бұрын
Garssa, I have this plane and Ive flown it with a 3s 2200mah and a gopro hero 3 mounted on the front. It flew good, I could even take off and land with the main landing gear installed. You should also look at the XUAV Mini Talon.
@ArxangelRC6 жыл бұрын
Hey, this plane is a big small for a proper gimbal with a GoPro for instance! The Mini Talon (goo.gl/6CX1BP) is one option, as are the X-UAV Clouds (goo.gl/U1f7mm or goo.gl/MRgqgg), the Believer (goo.gl/YiYMkE or goo.gl/V2s9Pn)... also the Ranger EX (goo.gl/qMDQJj) provides a nice way to mount the gimbal underneath it for best unobstructed view down if you need that. All will be more suited for a gimbal with a camera than the Ranger G2, it is just too small! It will probably be able to carry it, but it will be too heavy and I guess control will not be as pleasant.
@garssa26746 жыл бұрын
Thanks for both answers! I was thinking in the mini talon, as it seems to be the unique way to lift a gimbal at under 100$, but two friends of mine had a big problem with it, when they reach hight speed the plane go to the floor with no way to recover it. They both have PNP version so maybe the servos aren't good at all, have you read about that problem?
@dannymoore87856 жыл бұрын
Yeah, let me be clear on this plane. I have used it with a gopro camera mounted on the front WITHOUT a gimbal. I have also flown it with a small FPV camera, 2-axis gimbal and VTX installed on the front. In both instances it flew fine. What I don't know is how it would react to a gopro camera and gimbal installed. As ArxangelRC stated, this plane does have weight limitations. I'm sure the planes he listed would do much better. I am considering getting the Ranger EX. That looks like a nice plane but a little pricey and I'd have to buy more batteries :(
@garssa26746 жыл бұрын
I'm totally decided to mount a mini talon as it seems to be the best rate quality/price, but thanks for the info! I'm totally new in planes, I have only flown quadcopters, and I'm a long range addict...but I need more range than a quad will give me

what would you recommend for an fpv plane in 2018. what are the advantages of this over the 1600 or 2000 version?

The advantages of the G2 are purely size... but I would still prefer the Ranger 2000 over the G2 if we are talking some more serious FPV stuff... the plastic fuselage gives a lot of confidence and durability to the plane, and it can carry more gear.
@zacjohnson84046 жыл бұрын
what about those longer wings, are they at greater risk of damage in a rough landing or just general transport damage? how strong do the bigger wings feel?

I have not noticed any YAW issues, and have not done any mixing in the radio in regards to ailerons and rudder, I usually do coordinated turns myself, or leave that to the autopilot, if there is one installed.

Hardly think this deserves a whole video, but might include a small section about it in my next video of the Ranger G2. It is simple really, I replaced the T-plug with an XT60 connector, and added two more smaller wires to the XT60 while soldering it. The, I crimped a JST connector to them, so I can power an external SBEC for the servos and receiver, because I really don't trust the stock Volantex ESC to last, and when it burns out at least I will have servo control, even if the motor goes out, and the way this plane glides, chances of getting it back without any damage are pretty high! :)

Get a titan Skywalker FPV plane
@ArxangelRC6 жыл бұрын
Seriously... are you working for Skywalker?? How can you compare a 1.2m wingspan plane with a 2.2m one?!
@volantexflyinggroup72956 жыл бұрын
Every skywalker i have owned has been a flawed design, hence i now prefer Volantex, you dont have to fix them after each flight, unlike the skywalkers

Nice videos But slow it down take a breath or 2

Haha... will try to... but I do try to pack as much info into as short a time as possible! :)

Ya but you can stretch the video out so you can breath. I get winded listening cause you are so fast. A few min won’t matter. Take care

thanks for posting. good commentary. some observations. the manufacturer has chosen to NOT use a Correct combination of an Offset thrust Line and a Correct thrust Angle. the correct thrust angle Should cause an offset thrust line to (nearly) INTERSECT a model's center of Mass. see linked photo for a visual aid. the Optimal location of the c-m of a conventional airframe is a point within the Fuselage that vertically aligns with 25 percent of root chord, near the center line of the model. on this model, the thrust line does Not Even intersect the FUSELAGE. this model comes with servos pre-installed, Improperly, near the Tail. if someone at volantex Understood the importance of Distribution of Mass in the design of a model airframe, the aileron servos would Not be installed AFT of the cg. cheers static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/2/9/6/3/9/7/a5988257-224-bixler%202%20motor%20angle%20correction.jpg?d=1375236281 servos installed near/forward of a model's C-M www.rc-airplane-world.com/image-files/graupner-swift-servo-tray.jpg

Don't quite see what the servos have to do with the motor thrust like! They are just a piece of weight in the plane that can be put pretty much anywhere, depending on weight distribution requirements! In the case of these FPV planes, where you have huge amounts of FPV gear in the nose of the plane, having as much weight as possible back of the CG would help easily balance the plane when you add the FPV gear in! Keep in mind these are FPV planes first, and "General purpose park flyers" second! Years ago with the Raptor series Volantex did have the servos at the front in the fuselage... and this is when I moved them back to the tail, which freed up A LOT of space up front, and after that Volantex started making all their planes like this! It is convenient for me and I like that, and really don't see it as a problem! If we all stick the servos in the nose... where would the battery go, and the FPV gear??? And those super long pushrods and the sleeves needed for them would be just unnecessary weight, which could have been used for something more useful!

Putting the servo`s in the rear of the plane is a great way to do this, as said it free`s up a surprising amount of room in the front for lipo/FPV and camera gear, short pushrods are much better than a long tubed snake and the servo`s are handy to get at if one fails, a great design and more companys should adopt this setup

David Davids.....Not you again....we know all about thrust lines.....Please just go away, nobody is listening to your rantings, we are too busy flying....Unlike you, I suspect. Take your armchair wisdom elsewhere, we dont need it or you.

The plane is plain terrible. See other KZbin videos that explain how the motor forces the nose down and what the workaround is. It flops around terribly to the left and right, it does not glide. And it’s only a matter of a day or two before a couple of the service completely crap out.

Actually experiences have been quite polarised on this model! Some people have it flying awesome... others do have problems with it! Not sure why that is! A friend of mine had a lot of issues with his first one, it was a bad flyer! Bought a second one, and that one is perfect and he loves it!!!!
