"Arydia: The Paths We Dare Tread is an open world, campaign-based, co-operative, fantasy-based, "green legacy" role-playing board game. The game of Arydia is built on four design pillars: Exploration, Progression, Combat, and Role-playing.
Exploration - Arydia is an open world to explore as you wish. Make your way across the world map, discovering new locations, interacting with memorable characters, fighting vicious monsters, and scavenging long-lost treasures. The world pulls you in through detailed descriptions and vivid artwork for each place you visit. Every location is unique, not randomized, and is built piece by piece as you explore.
Progression - Arydia is played as a campaign over the course of a number of game sessions; you start each session right where you left off! As you play, the game keeps track of your actions and decisions. Your characters will grow in power, collecting new items, weapons, and skills. NPCs and locations will change, depending on how you interact with them. All of this progression is done using a simple, but powerful, index system, which allows for quick and easy set-up and tear down.
Combat - Many of the locations you'll visit in Arydia are hostile, so you'll need your weapons, skills, and co-operation to overcome the challenges you encounter! Arydia features a tactical, co-operative combat system. Enemies are controlled by game cards and dice, while you and your companions work together to defeat them.
Role-playing - Take on the roles of a wide cast of characters as you encounter them throughout your journeys. Step into the shoes of a disgruntled shop owner, sniffling brat, or a poorly-dressed bandit leader. The incentive-based role-play system encourages you to engage in dramatic storytelling, without being intrusive.
As for being a "green legacy" game, publisher Far Off Games notes that Arydia features all the hallmarks of a legacy game - packages to open, hidden information, progression, discovery, exploration, all the while wrapping it in high-quality components - but allows you to reset the game when you have completed it so that you can start again or pass it on to someone else."

Definitely in for this one! Love the look of it and the mechanics that I've seen so far. Xia is a great time and I'm hoping all the potential this has is realised to make it similar. Probably my last campaign game that I pledged for before deciding I needed to finish a few more off.

Great video as always! Halfway through but wanted to point out that when you level up, you skip the numbers you don’t have. So for your level up on INT, you would automatically get a 2 at level 1 on your chart, regardless of the fact that you had zero INT at the start.

After backing Stormsunder I told myself, I don't need another dungeon crawler (ish) fantasy adventure game. Then Arydia started and I couldn't help myself and needed to go for base game + epic hunt. Great ideas, and after Xia and especially after the Xia expansion (which took care of some issues I had with Xia) I believe, Arydia could be the blast I'm expecting (even if I'm still a little sceptical about the dice).

Twice I almost backed this and twice decided not to just because I have enough games to play and some still coming right now! But I DO love how it simulates an actual RPG game in a board game form and love the hit location system for combat. If it's still available once I'm all done with Oathsworn I will probably still try to get a copy!

Hey! Thanks so much. Honestly those two games are extremely different in every aspect. The only thing similar is that you control and upgrade a character over time. But even that is completely different. These two could be on the shelf together with almost zero overlap.

I backed this one immediately. Even my oldest son is juiced about Arydia. If the story telling pulls off well, this is going to be the world exploring JRPG we have been missing. (Middara is missing exploration of a world map to be a true JRPG.)

I was on the fence for this game. one aspect: the combat feels really innovative. another aspect: I have so many campaign games, it's hard to get them to the table. but I did take the plunge and got in on a group buy for the game. looking forward to playing it. love far off games, love Xia, I'm sure this will be loved too.

Hello Adam, I pledged 1$ for this game. I need to decide to purchase or not during the pledge manager. How does this game compare to Massive Darkness 2? MD2 is not a campaign game. But in terms of character development and combat, how do they rank? Thanks

I'd say from what I played in protoype form for both it seems like Arydia has the edge on character progression. However, the sheer number of options of characters in MD is certainly a factor too. Tough to say which is 'better'. In terms of combat, Arydia has a unique and more original combat system vs. MD which falls into familiar territory. That's how i'd sum them up!

While I liked the exploration aspect of 7th continent I hated digging through the decks. Is this game as fiddly as that one because I felt like I was just digging through index cards more than I was playing a game. I guess what I'm asking is that with Arydia is it card digging to go do some gameplay for a while or card digging to go do more card digging?

That I can't speak to as thwe index for the prototype isn't the full amount of the game. You have to find cards but they have a great system for moving through them and also tracking which ones you've been to already or completed.

One of the things that concerned me about Arydia during the Kickstarter campaign was the roleplaying. I love roleplaying with others, but find it pointless roleplaying by myself. How did you find Arydia as a solo game, rather than a multi-player, please?

I think it still has that 7th Continent vibe when played solo. I still feel like I'm on a grand adventure regardless of having individuals around to voice certain scripts. Thanks for watching!

The prototype almost felt like an advertisement in a box. Maybe that's what all prototypes are, but I'm worried this system won't feel rewarding long term. Also concerned about the blandness of the story and replayability. Definitely can't wait to see the full thing getting plays.

Hey Derek! Prototypes typically are exactly that. A canned experience to show you how the game operates. It's worth mentioning that this game has a whole bunch of spoilers in it so this was made in a way to ensure nothing would get spoiled but also show you how the game expands out. I'm looking forward to seeing the final version after experiencing the prototype first hand. :)
