The sleeves with permanent marker is how we did Pathfinder the adventure card game. Worked really well.

Dry erase rubs off too easily. I’m a big fan of wet erase markers for this sort of thing. Works great on sleeves and laminated sheets. Permanent markers do work and can be (mostly) cleaned up with rubbing alcohol, but I like wet erase markers more.
