Rybakina is one of those players who needs a few matches in a tournament to get up to her top level. That works fine in most tournaments where the first rounds are against low ranked players - but doesn’t work in the WTA finals where each player is at the top.

The best rivalry in women tennis right now! Even in these horrible conditions, even when both showed their worst tennis, they gave us a close battle. Much better than the overhyped and one-sided Iga vs. Coco rivalry (and i said that as Iga fan). The H2H can look dominant for Sabalenka (5:2), but the all wins of Sabalenka over Rybakina were in 3 sets and the all wins of Rybakina over Sabalenka were in close 2 sets. Aryna showed better nerves than Elena and she won the match, but what a season only for Elena! Top 10 debut, 4 finals and 2 titles in the beggining of the year. The second half of the year can be considered as a downgrade for her, but even then she made many consistent results. That was her first WTA Finals ever and she almost qualified for the semifinals, so bravo to her... I believe if she keeps healthy and motivated, she will do better WTA Finals 2024. And about Sabalenka - if she ends the year as world no.1, it would be so deserved! Her consistency since the beggining of the year is impressive and only the delusional tennis fans can reject that...

Sabalenka got No. 1 because she was most consistent at the Grand Slam events whilst Iga performed poorly. Take away the Grand Slam events her record in 2023 has been patchy. Rybakina has been inconsistent after Rome and WTA final confirm this. I won’t read too much into Pegula’s recent wins other than the hard hitters can be beaten. Whilst the finals are not over, I think it confirmed that there is no overall leader in women tennis. The good news for Iga fans like yourself is that Iga is by no mean a spent force but she needs to develop her game further if she is to regain the No. 1 on a more permanent basis.

‘Rybakina should have won this match’ is utterly an unjustified statement simply because the 2023 WTA Finals (and all other tennis tournaments actually) are highly 'contested' by all these talented tennis players. The result of this match (or any other match for that matter) is NOT given to a player just because one is a lot better over the other or one is more popular over the other. All players battle it out until the Chair Umpire says “Game, Set, Match followed by the NAME OF THE PLAYER” at the end of the match and the result is based on whoever wins the match. Period. Therefore, for us, she has been a disappointment this year. I know she has had some health issues but it was also her movement, tactics and even mental issues when she went off on coaches and WTA. She needs to get fitter, stronger mentally and perhaps a coaching change. I really hope she can address all of that in the next two months before the Australian tournaments including AO 2024. Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth. WTA/ATP/ITF, stop this nonsense and do not mix sport with politics. Appointing "flag police" at the AO 2023 was not even childish... it was embarassing and insane... Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen. Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag? USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq. Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them. Another example; are Israeli (Para-)olympians responsible for the policy of their government towards Palestinians? *** All wars are equal, but some wars are more equal than others.

such a shame one group had 3 amazing players (sabalenka, rybakina, pegula) while other didn't have one. swiatek has to be the luckiest player to ever walk on earth. just look at her draws last 2 years. always avoids competition.

Or maybe her draws are not so random ;)

You know that it's the 8 best player they all are good, yes rybakina could be in the final four but don't let your pain goes on swiatek

LOL, obviously Swiatek is a great player, with more success than any of the other 3 mentioned. Pegula hasn't even won a grand slam yet ...... actually she hasn't even made a final ......... actually she hasn't even made a semi-final. And you consider Pegula a great player but not Swiatek. Delusion at it's most obvious. Also Swiatek has 4 slam tournament wins. The other 3 players have 2 slam wins between them.

Swiatek is in a group with two 2023 GS champions (Gauff and Vondrousova) and with one 2023 Grand slam finalist (Jabeur). While Sabalenka was the only 2023 GS champion in her group. But based on the current form and H2H between the players, i agree so. Coco shows amazing tennis, but is helpless against Iga. Ons and Marketa are struggling with injuries and currently aren't even close to their Wimbledon form. Iga clearly stands out. By other side Aryna is great all year. Jess is very consistent. Elena isn't that good as she was in the beggining of the year, but she is decent now. Only Maria looks weaker, compared to the other WTA finalists.
